Andre and Sophie Thanks. I was just about to go to bed. And now all I can think off is a LITTLE TINY BUG JAMMING *swallows bile* INTO ANOTHER LITTLE BUG SO THAT SHE CAN HAVE A NASTY LITTLE BUG! Not to mention you used the word "puncture"

But that's okay! I guess I could stay up for another hour. Reading or something.

*glares at Lena*

message 502: by C.D. (new) - rated it 3 stars

C.D. Hussey @Lena, I knew there was a reason I loved your book.

Okay, back to sparkly vampires.

Nurlely Lena wrote: "i think i used the word ejaculate already a few times on this thread...someone told me that was a bad word! It's a completely technical word. "

I was thinking about submitting my comment with that eja-- word. How is it gross? Didn't they learn biology or skipped it because of all the inappropriate words? Interesting!
I bet the word intercourse is forbidden too...:)

We should go back to the sparkly diamond-wannabe vampires...

Andre and Sophie Speaking of ejaculation, considering how strong Edward is. Wouldn't that hurt Bella? His you know... ejaculation or sperm?

Nurlely Well...Stephenie's vampires have lots of privileges due to reproduction process...:)

Gerd C.D. wrote: "Oh man, I just thought of a crazy idea for a paranormal book. Where sperm actually walk, so there's this risk of getting pregnant in random places. Kinda like getting lice. Ewww..."
Did anybody read Larry Niven's article in which he muses about Superman's sperm?
And the dangers of pregancy for Lois?
Hilarious!

It ends with millions of super sperm attacking the world. :D

Library Lady 📚 Nurlely wrote: "Well...Stephenie's vampires have lots of privileges due to reproduction process...:)"

Ha, yeah, a LOT!!! frozen, hundred year old viable sperm? yeah, right...lol...i still hate the last book b/c of that. I really can't like a book where it's SO unbelievable. I love fantasy, but that just goes beyond ridiculous. But bring on Eric!!! lol...

I'm not sure that Edward has super strength...um...(insert that E-word here). But it does make sense. Maybe that's why humans & vampires dont hook up very often in her books!

And seriously, if there are any writers on here, please make a book about giant bed bugs or something! It would be made into one of those horror movies i can't watch, like "splice" and "the human centipede"!

Risa Ann i think the movies adaptation of the sparkle made it stupid....but in the books its seemed to fit...like deception of what we have always thought of vampires wasn't true....giving them the ability to be out in the day under cloud cover, gave more freedom for the charcters and story to expand.

message 509: by Torie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Torie The sparkling thing is from a dream Stephenie Meyer had. The whole Twilight series came from one dream that she had and didn't want to forget so she wrote it down. There was actually a dude laying in a meadow, sparkling, lol.

Oh my god, I really think Human Centipede was the WORST movie I've ever seen, WTF!?
I mean, who thinks up weird stuff like that? Oh wait, probably people like us talking about superman sperm and bedbugs :-)
I agree with Lena, PLEASE make a book about giant bedbugs! And while you're at it, make 'em sparkle

Library Lady 📚 YES, yes, bedazzle the bedbugs! Lol...

message 512: by Alipz (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alipz well, the vampire diaries' vampires are soo much cooler than twilight's...and they're hurt by sunlight but they have their bewitched rings..that's one superb twist n i like it..it's way better than sparkling skin n have-to-go-away-when-weather's-nice in twilight~

You know, I still haven't watched The Vampire Diaries show, but I did read a couple of the books and I thought they were absolutely terrible! Very childish and predictable.
As far as the books go, I think Twilight blows Vampire Diaries out of the water, but Vampire Diaries is probably better than Twilight on the TV screen

message 514: by Jo (new) - rated it 1 star

Jo I hate vampires. Always. And sparkly vampire are stupid.

Library Lady 📚 Yes, I also heard Vampire Diaries books were poorly written. Although, I wonder how they compare to Twilight. There are a lot of plot holes and inconsistencies in Twilight, and that bothers me. I've also heard the PC Cast (House of Night?)novels were awful, so I returned the first one before i read it. It's hard to find a well-written vampire book, honestly. Besides Salem's Lot and Dracula, I haven't found any. But I'm about to start Anne Rice, so we'll see!

message 516: by Lindis (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lindis Russell OMG! I've been away from goodreads for a while, to come back to 67 new posts on this. I'm not gonna read them all! What did I miss?

message 517: by Alipz (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alipz owh..i know the books are terrible but i love the series..cause the series are totally different from the books..trust me..

Library Lady 📚 A lot! Lol. We talked about bedbug mating habits, superman's sperm, and other wonders beyond imagination. lol

Nurlely Lena wrote: "I've also heard the PC Cast (House of Night?)novels were awful, so I returned the first one before i read it."

Really? My friends recommended HoN for me to read since I love everything about vampires. Blue Bloods too, which I chose to read. I think Blue Bloods series is not that bad but I prefer Sookie Stackhouse series for vamp series.

He he he, this feed is so fun!!!!!!

Library Lady 📚 @Nurlely--I had the first one, but then I was reading on here, and a bunch of ppl were saying it was just horribly written, and that's one thing that is very difficult for me to overlook. Maybe once i get sucked into a series i dont notice as much (like with the Sookie books) but if I start out w/ a book thinking it's poorly written, I just can't get past that. So I didnt even bother.

message 522: by Lindis (last edited Jun 12, 2011 06:42PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lindis Russell What was said about the House Of Night? Cauz, like I'm a sucker for Twilight, I love the House of Night series too. Sorry. I also loved The Chronicles of Vladimir Todd. I guess, there really isn't a book that I've read, that I don't like! : ) I'm on book two of Sookie! : )

Library Lady 📚 I think it may have been on a thread called "Fantasy books you didnt like" or something like that. The person said they were so poorly written she couldnt pay attn to the story. That's a dealbreaker for me almost always. You won't be able to stop reading Sookie's series, even though the quality goes way down later...plot holes, inconsistencies, lack of plot...you'll still be hooked to the end!

Nurlely No idea. We need to hear from Lena.

message 525: by Lindis (last edited Jun 12, 2011 06:50PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lindis Russell Ahhh, I see. Yeah, I will say that sometimes the HoN story get's a little, "off" and poorly written, but I just need to know what happens next!!!

I even have a friend that quit buying them. She just borrows mine after I read them! : )
And I'm looking foward to getting sucked into Bon Temps!

Nurlely I think everything is getting worse in Bon Temps. I am a bit upset with Dead Reckoning...:(

Isabelle i keep getting forwards that vampires sparkle!!

Library Lady 📚 Nurlely wrote: "I think everything is getting worse in Bon Temps. I am a bit upset with Dead Reckoning...:("

Yeah, the last couple have been a big letdown for me. But they started out so good that i'm still going to read to the end.

Andre and Sophie That's what I've heard. I haven't gotten a chance to read the book yet. But I still have hope. Even if *gasps and holds back tears* Eric and Sookie don't end up together. As long as she doesn't end up with Bill(which she won't) or Alcide, I'll be fine. Maybe Claude (the fact that their cousins doesn't matter to fairies) or Sam. That *blows nose like a trumpet* would be okay. NOOOOO! Eric and Sookie are meant to be together 4EVER! She's supposed to go vamp!

Library Lady 📚 LOl, yeah. I love her w/ Eric too, and have the same feelings about Bill. But the last few books have just been 'meh' for me. Nothing really happens in the 10th book, her & eric barely see each other and their relationship is not as hot as it used to be. Vair vair sad about that.

Nurlely Bill was written pretty nice here, which is disappointing, while Eric has another problem to his relationship with Sookie (Again???). The beginning in Dead in the Family was good but it did not have a good ending, more like no ending at all. Dead Reckoning is a turn back, with recycled plot.

Andre and Sophie I miss the old Eric. Thinking back on it now I think Sookie might have taken some of the flair out of him. He used to be so exciting! So funny. So ADORABLY DANGEROUSLY SEXY! But... now his character seems to fall flat. Charlaine Harris said she was ready to move on and it definitly shows.

Nurlely The idea is terrible. To slowly remove Eric from the picture. I really hate that. It was the relationship between Sookie and Eric that attracted readers to read her books. Maybe Ms Harris dislike the idea of having more readers fancy Eric rather than Sookie.

Well, at least I can have Eric on TV series....:)

Roger Having been away for a bit, I read everything that went on, and something was missed. Someone asked why there were no normal or less than attractive vampires?

First answer: When you need to look attractive to your prey, if you aren't attractive, you don't eat.

Second answer: Have you read Sookie Stackhouse? Not only is she the dumbest woman to live among vampires since Bella, but most of those vamps are average looking. Their mystique is in the attitude of someone who has been around a lot and the allure of being a vampire....and sometimes magic.

Just in case you were wondering, I have a vendetta against Charlaine Harris' vampires too. NO WAY somebody lives that long and makes that many insanely stupid mistakes.

Library Lady 📚 Roger wrote: "Having been away for a bit, I read everything that went on, and something was missed. Someone asked why there were no normal or less than attractive vampires?

My vampires are 'normal' looking. As in, they look as they did the day they changed, roughly. They might get pale, etc, but they are not all beautiful & perfect. And believe me, they have no problem eating! I never understood that about vampire books--they are WAY stronger than humans. If they want to eat, they can. Remember Dracula?

Lena
The Superiors

Nurlely @ Roger: How do you define a normal vampire?
Are all vampires attractive? Perhaps some of them are. but not all vampires in the books are good looking. Their vampire looks are better than when they were humans but an ugly human becoming a vampire does not suddenly have an extremely beautiful face.

If they are not attractive enough to lure their victims, they could just attack them, for they have their skills and speed.

I think Sookie is weird too. She has an inclination to sleep with gorgeous guys she meets. But she is also an attractive woman who draws so many supernatural guys closer. She has fey blood and a telepathic. I love the series mostly because of Eric. He is so gorgeous!

Library Lady 📚 Nurlely wrote: "@ Roger: How do you define a normal vampire?

Haha, in Twilight they are! All Twilight vampires are beautiful, no matter how they looked as humans. But i agree, in Sookie books, they aren't all gorgeous. I dont think Bill is described as being particularly attractive. Eric is attractive, but a lot of it is his personality. Sookie is a little bit, erm, slutty, but it fits her personality. It would be unrealistic for that character to be a prude.

Nurlely I think Laurent is not that attractive. But perhaps others think so...:)

I think Sookie Stackhouse series do not focus in its vampires' appearances, but more to characters' personalities, or in this case vampiralities...:)

message 541: by J.D. (new) - rated it 5 stars

J.D. Field That was my question about unattractive vampires! thanks!

Library Lady 📚 Laurent isn't that hot in the movies. Then again, I dont think any of the vampires in the Twilight movies are hot. Except James. See, I like the bad boys--like Eric! Yum. Anyway, back on topic, lol...in the Twilight books, all the vampires are beautiful. It's like a requirement of being a vampire!

message 543: by Roger (new) - rated it 2 stars

Roger Regardless of how many normal human-looking vamps are around, when it comes around to it, the ones that are attractive will be the most successful at hunting and less likely to be seen as predators than the ones who look ugly or animalistic. Yes you can be a vampire that just charges in and eats when you want to. If you do that near your food source (the city) someone is going to get wise and come after you for being captain obvious.

Trust me, after the inquisition, the only living vampires would be the ones who could hide in society and hunt with their brains and charisma, not the steally grabby ones. They would in turn only make other attractive smart people vampires, and you have effectively bred ugly out of the equation.

Twilight vampires are all gorgeous because they already have two strikes against them for being disco balls and being stupid. If humanity has taught us anything about evolution, it is that a whole lot of pretty can make up for a whole lot of stupid.

Library Lady 📚 @Roger--Possibly true. However, there comes a point where being 'too' pretty makes you stand out as obvious (as in obviously a vampire). I think Twilight vamps have crossed over. Not only are they unnaturally gorgeous to a point where they dont fit in w/ everyone, but they sparkle as well. So they have taken things too far and instead of their beauty being an asset, it actually makes them obvious.

What comes next then? Read HG Wells "The Time Machine" and you find out. Brainless, weak, helpless pretty people. Like Bella!

Nurlely Lena wrote: "Laurent isn't that hot in the movies. Then again, I dont think any of the vampires in the Twilight movies are hot. Except James. See, I like the bad boys--like Eric! Yum. Anyway, back on topic, lol..."

James is exceptional. Too bad he 'died' too soon. But we still have Jasper...:)

Nurlely @ Roger: I think being attractive applies not only vampires but human beings in a way of 'befriending' someone.

I doubt that it will be easier for gorgeous vampires to get their preys rather than the ugly ones. It is indeed easier for the beautiful ones to get closer to their preys but in vampire world the powerful ones are the ones who could have more. Usually, the older the vampire, the more powerful s/he becomes and usually have enough followers to get the preys. In Twilight, there are Aro, Caius and Marcus.

Brianna Workman I've always liked the idea of vampires looking plain. Like ordinary. So that they blend in with everyone else. They only get pretty to you if they want to. So they can drink from you. No one else sees them like that. Only the targets they choose.

message 548: by C.D. (new) - rated it 3 stars

C.D. Hussey Vampires have come in all forms throughout history. I think a sparkly vampire is a little silly too, but many of us associate a "normal" vampire with Dracula and the subsequent movies. But vampires and vampire myths have been around a lot longer than that.

They aren't always undead (although commonly are) and vampires in Roma, and south Slavic folklore could father children. In Roma the children were called dhampirs.

Some of the mythology portrays vampires as beautiful. It's usually when the vampire is female, like Lilith from Babylonian times and the Malaysian Penanggalan.

I guess my point is that while I do find some of SM's ideas silly, there is so much more to the myth than what's commonly represented in modern fiction. If you do any kind of research, you'll see that the myths are all over the place. I mean, one African vampire takes the form of a firefly and hunts children. Fireflys? Really?

I actually write about Human Live Vampires, which is another beast altogether. However, I do love modern vampires, and I prefer the sexy ones.

Caroline C. Chameleon wrote: "Now I know I may seem a little harsh, but vampires are supposed to be blood thirsty, ruthless, evil creatures. They disintegrate in the sun and are totally baddass. Right? Am I alone in thinking th..."

yea i liked the whole story of twilight and all the charistics she gave vampires like super speed incredibally strong and have special powers like mind reading and visions but the sparkle effect i think took away all the vampire coolness.

message 550: by Roger (new) - rated it 2 stars

Roger Nurlely wrote: "I doubt that it will be easier for gorgeous vampires to get their preys rather than ..."

I am standing by my premise that since the pretty vampires were more likely to survive than monstrous ones, they would make more pretty ones for survival. Hence, after the inquisition, the only "Old/powerful" vampires are the pretty ones.
