Tambrey He must have a huge imagination, the way he writes it feel real, when you read it, it's like you can imagine it and you're there

Dov Agreed but, this thread has reminded me that ppl complain that this is a rehash (or stolen idea) from LoTR. To that point I would have to say that every era of time have their mythos. the ancients (the greeks for example) had gods who walked among mortals and caused mischief. But nowadays our myths take the form of perceived good versus evil. LoTR, Star wars. Harry Potter and Eragon. I would go as so far to say that the myth is perceived as a family fight amongst those who perceive what they believe is good or evil. This is the myth of our era and of course authors will write about that.

Aeyla As I have written all over goodreads, the was my all time favorite book. I am so excited for the fourth book to come out! (I'm literally counting down the days!) Not only do I like the story line, but, as so many others have said, Paolini has an amazing style. He makes you feel like you're there fighting alongside Eragon and Saphirra. His books are actually what inspired me to begin writing a book of my own!

Jacob Oman I think this book is AWESOME so much that I read it twice!! (although I can't get interested in the 2nd one though.)

Aeyla The second one is not as good as the first or the third. A lot of the story just follows Eragon's training and isn't as "action packed". If you haven't read the third, you should. It's really good.

Jacob Oman I quit the series anyhow.

MizziQ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! FAIL! You quitter! :)

Aeyla Jacob wrote: "I quit the series anyhow."

You can do what you want, but I strongly suggest you finish the series. It's really good and you're missing out.

Clay jacob has no taste of books ):

MizziQ i sympathize

Night Fury Eragon... in fact the whole series just pulsates with action, suspense... it's just soooo AWESOME!! =D

MizziQ conquer!!!!

Night Fury yooohoooo

Keiji Miashin Wait, so am I to gather from the first post that writing FANTASY is somehow...new?

Eragon is many things (good and bad) but original in its writing and genre it is not.

Keiji Miashin Leslie wrote: "The way he writes fantasy is new, with such an authoritative air."

Yeah, again, not really.

There have been hundreds of authors before him that have written better (and worse). At most, compared to them, he's average with an occasional descent into wordyness.

Lida I agree with Keiji, his writing is not quite original, and the gnere definitely not.
And his style of writing doesnt lend itself so easy reading, BUT I did enjoy the books, especially the third one.
AND I am sitting on the edge of my chair waiting for the fourth book....

Keiji Miashin Oh no, I wouldn't slam the books. They were fun to read even if there's plenty of things I can point out and nag about.

yojharobed || I have no sword. I don't need a sword. Because I am the Doctor and this is my spoon. En garde! I enjoyed this series as well. Who cares if C.P. borrowed a lot of ideas? Just read the book and enjoy it! I have heard a lot of people saying that it is way to long, but I did not see that at all. I have/am enjoyed/enjoying this series very much. It is one of the few books I have seen that has a movie based on it that is true to the book. GO INHERITANCE SERIES!!!!!

MizziQ I disagree with you about the movie but I really did like the movie when I watched it (Before reading them). I loved these books and it makes no diffrence to me where he picked up inspiration.

Keiji Miashin The Movie = nothing like the book.

MizziQ :)

Eliza Leone is the movie even worth watching?

MizziQ Not really. I mean you CAN. But it doesn't do anything for you. After reading the book I REALLY did not enjoy the movie. It's up to you but I woudn't bother.

Keiji Miashin Consider this, Eragon (the book) is often criticized for being unoriginal and cliche. There is enough originality and charm in it, however, for even a rusty cynic like me to enjoy it though.

The movie removes all that charm and originality. It leaves a story that's entirely consistent of "been there done that". If you haven't read the books the movie isn't bad, just not very interesting.

If you HAVE read the books then all changes and inconsistencies will likely bother you so much that you'll call it a bad movie.

Eliza Leone alright then, enough said. no on the movie watching. :-) thanks guys!

MizziQ No problem :) I actually own it because I had liked it so much. Haha! THEN I read the book....

Eliza Leone ouch. well at least you DID read the books. I read the first two on a kind of "when i get to them I will get to them" pace. then i heard the third was coming out, re-read all of them, then the third. however, i was still in the midset that it was a trilogy. i was a bit...flustered when i hit then end of book three and the story wasnt completed. so now i eagerly await the fourth one.

yojharobed || I have no sword. I don't need a sword. Because I am the Doctor and this is my spoon. En garde! I thought the movie was good. I think that you should watch it and get your own opinion.

Eliza Leone lol, i will probobly watch it at some point, however this is not the only negative review i have gotten from someone who has read the books. So if a chance comes up, i'll watch it. but i wont rush out to buy it. but yes, you're right.

AGREEABLE!!!!

Scott I read the first book, found it mirroring Star Wars a little too closely. Read the second one hoping it would break mirroring the Star Wars story, only to be disappointed. I wasn't going to read the third book until a friend said it broke the Star Wars story tradition. It was good, not amazing mind you, but I liked it. I have high hopes the fourth book will redeem the series altogether.

Apol The Inheritance cycle is right up there in my favorite books of all time list. I love these books! :)

Nick Quinn I love the series and have read them twice. I see some similarities with Lord of the Ring and other fantasy novels, but also quite a bit of originality. It is interesting to see his world view come out in his writing, though; it is quite a bit different than Tolkien. I like these books more than most other fantasy books that I have read. I agree that the movie is really sorry and not worth seeing if you have read the books. It is sad because they could of done such a better job on the movie.

Reference: The Hero with a Thousand Faces

Star Wars is pretty much George Lucas' very long love letter to that book. It's not that Eragon is too samey to Star Wars, but the fact that both are very traditional 'hero' stories.
