There will be a follow up story -- Ill Met By Moonlight. I will resist giving a date because we all know where that led this year. :-)

:-) and :-)

That is wonderful, this is one of my favorites :D

I'm sooo waiting for this. I'll be patient, though. ;-)
And I want to re-read the story and the coda. Definitely need more time...

:-D
I love these two characters.

I love these two characters.
I'm enjoying the audiobook. It took me a chapter or so to warm up to the narrator's "tough dick" voice. I mean private eye "dick," not what you may be thinking. ; ) Now I'm remembering what I loved about this story. Also, it seems that Neil's voice gets gentler as his heart is more engaged.
I wanted to place a short review on Audible's site, but they now have that interview-styled question and answer format for reviews and no apparent means to over-ride it. Just not my cup of tea.

I wasn't at all sure on listening to the sample, and might not have taken the plunge except that I trust Josh and his judgment, especially given how good all his other audiobooks are.

Nice to hear how you liked it, since I'm going to start listening to this today. :-)

I think that the opening line ("It was always a dame...") is akiller tough one. I had Bogart or more likely Robert Mitchum in my head. I'm not sure who could live up to that.
I enjoyed the reading overall, but there are times Jordan Murphy seems to have lost his place with the characters' voices (read a line as Brett when it was Neil's), or the cadence is off. I felt that he got into the groove more as the story progressed, and that was kind of fitting since it matches Rafferty's opening himself up to his feelings.
I thought his reading of the bedroom scenes was quite well-done. Just saying, since we know you won't listen. ; D

But after ten minutes and with earphones it was okay and I like the timbre from his voice.

Sometimes i find that the interview-style questions for the audible review help me shape the review, but it does take longer than a regular review would take. Another option would be to post directly on amazon for the audio version of the book, and maybe they share it on audible?

I agree. Historical is tough. It's a whole new ballgame.
I'll be honest, this wasn't my favorite audio production. Now...compared to some other m/m audio books I've listened to, I think this is a more than decent entry, but I've had such excellent results in the past that I am spoiled.
The difficulty is, you can ask a narrator to fix a mispronounced word or a missed word, but it's hard to ask them to come up with a voice or a sensibility that's not in their repertoire.
It's all on me for not pulling the plug after the first fifteen minutes.

Ha! And I was exactly the reverse on this. I love the amiable diversity of our group. : )

I have the same impression! I thought I lost my ability to understand english, but now I will be at ease. Thank you Hj : )
And yes I think too, that he got Brett and Rafferty confused. So it is not the usual high Josh Lanyon standard, but it is okay. ( He has a nice voice )

It's always a learning experience.
I think I was trying too hard to keep mixing it up with narrators -- not keep reusing the same voices and the same styles.

I wouldn't worry about that. After all, it's your voice telling all the stories anyway. You already have some very good people who know what you like -- use them again!

You can override the Q&A review. Somewhere on the right is a "freestyle" review choice or something like that. I can't see it anymore since I chose it and it automatically goes to that style all of the time.

Ok start typing in the Q&A question area and a little pop-up bubble comes up asking if you want Free Form review. Click on it and it will give you a regular review box.

Thanks!

So I'm just getting around to Rough Magic and was wondering if this sequel was ever written or did it go the way of the sequel to Mexican Heat?

No, no. It's still in the works. In fact, we just redid the covers for that one and the This Rough Magic. It's scheduled for next year.
