Hello,

I'm glad I found this group. It's great that indies can all help each other, in whatever way they can.

I've written 3 novels. They are all on Kindle.

I came to Goodreads, because it was recommened on the Kindle Direct Publishing forums.

I was born in the Australian outback and grew up in Melbourne.

Looking forward to cyber socialising with other indies.

R.W.W. Greene (rwwgreene) | 1 comments My name is Rob Greene. I'm a public school teacher in New Hampshire, and an MFA candidate in fiction writing at Southern New Hampshire University. I'm working on a critical essay comparing YA literature with “adult” fiction that features teen protagonists (ie, John Searles' “Boy Still Missing” and the like).

I was hoping you could help me out by answering a couple of questions. I'd be more than happy to send you a copy of the essay when I'm through, and I'll certainly let you know if anyone wants to publish the thing

My thesis is that the central differences between the two are a matter of perspective and tone. YA tends to be written in present tense, showing the “youth experience” as it happens, warts, pain and all. Adult fiction with youthful protagonists tends to be told in a older voice, usually a main character looking back from a distance of years. As such, it casts the youth experience in halcyon colors, giving it a kind of those-were-the-days tone.

Question 1: What have you seen, read, or written that would support or invalidate my thesis? Specific titles would be helpful, but a general sense of the media would work just fine.

Question 2: Given that a growing number of adults, readers and writers, are dipping into the YA pool, what do you suppose is the attraction?

Question 3: In what ways do you see writers of adult fiction, recognizing YA's appeal, adopting the tools and themes of the YA genre?

I appreciate any assistance you can give. Even a sentence or two per question would be a great deal of help. I thank you for your time and wish you, yours, and writing, well.

Rob Greene

David Richards | 5 comments Hello everyone,
My name David Richards (D.W. Richards). I was born in Canada but I travel between Ottawa, Canada, Venice, Italy and Sarasota, Florida. I joined Goodreads when I published my novel, “Pairs” (women's lit/romance). My current project is a graphic novel (sci-fi/occult). Recently I have been asked to work on script for a short indie film noir (occult/detective), which I’m excited about. I love the change from the solo, nearly sequestered, process of writing a novel versus the collaborative process involved with graphic novels and film.

I've had some short stories and non-fiction articles and papers published in the past...but I'm really working toward finishing these two novels and getting them out there to be read.

I do book reviews on my blog...you can check them out here:

I recently decided to include you tube in reviewing portfolio. So the only thing there right now is my TBR for November...but you will begin to see book reviews there very soon.

Laekan Kemp (laekanzeakemp) Hey everybody. My name's Laekan Kemp. I'm 20 years old and live in Texas. I haven't self-published anything yet, but after all of the rejection letters I've recieved from agents I'm planning on doing it soon haha.

I'm working on revising my first novel. It follows a young woman as she returns to Argentina after years of living in the U.S. where she and her family sought refuge from the Dirty War. It's all about her discovering what really happened to her mother, who mysteriously disappeared during the height of the war and how this one thread of truth basically unravels her entire life and who she thought she was. In my opinion it crosses over between adult and young adult fiction but it is really different and I'm having trouble figuring out where exactly my book will fit in.

Would anyone out there be willing to exchange emails with me and critique my manuscript? It's about 50,000 words which is about 90 pages in a word document.

I would be more than happy to exchange a critique with other writers out there looking for the same thing.

If you want to read a sample of my work to see if it's something you might be interested in reading, I have a short story posted on my goodreads account.

Thanks!!!!

I'm a military wife, and have been writing for various websites and publications for years. I recently published my first novel The Spy's Wife on Amazon, BN, and Smashwords.

My blog site is: shawndaviswrites.com
And I'm on twitter: @shawndwrites

I have kids. I love them. They drive me crazy. I also have two pit bulls. I love them, too. And in my spare time I train in boxing. I've found that hitting things feels very good and is an excellent form of therapy. Plus, I've lost 60 pounds doing it. I would like to lose more weight, but I also like cake.
