Susan Alison (susanalison) | 8 comments Hi - I'm Susan Alison and am only just trying to find my way around Goodreads although I 'seem' to have been here for a little while. I was very surprised a couple of weeks ago to find myself addressed as 'are you the author etc' when I first signed in, and I thought - Cripes - yes - I just do happen to be the author.

My first book for Kindle is up there (on UK and US) - is it okay to put a link in here? - ooh, I'm not sure, so I won't - it's called 'White Lies and Custard Creams' and seems to be doing quite well - I have no idea why.

But I've been going round with a big grin on my face since it started to go up the rankings. My face hurts now but I still can't stop grinning.

You can see from the cover - and even more so from the text - that I love dogs and live under the paw.

Oh, and my day job is artwork - uh - mainly dogs.

Not sure about how one goes about getting reviews. But here's the link to my blog where I've posted some info regarding what I've learned along the Indie writer way. Hope link works:

It has been a fun, wild, time-consuming ride so far. Have had some great press in the Denver Post and other Denver media outlets, and am looking to expand my reach. Goodreads has been a phenomenal tool so far!

I have a blog on writing and some reviews, and am always open to other contributors: http://www.derekblass.wordpress.com.

Stacy (stacyverdickcase) | 15 comments Hi Everyone - I am new here and I'm so glad to have found this group. You have great information in your discussions. Thanks to everyone for sharing.

My first book A Grand Murder is out now. It's the first in the Catherine O'Brien mystery series. Here's a quote from the book and the back cover blurb:

---------------------------
"The waiting room was full of people who were now watching Louise and me like we’d just dropped our pants and peed on the floor. Cops are nobody’s friends until you need one."

A Grand Murder

When a prominent local businessman and friend of the chief of police is murdered on the front steps of his posh Grand Avenue Hill home, Saint Paul homicide detective Catherine O'Brien a pithy, vertically challenged, St. Paul, Minnesota, homicide detective with a monstrous coffee habit and her partner Louise are given two days to find his killer.

They soon discover their victim had a list of people with motives to murder him, including his fashion designer ex-wife, his mistress’s husband, and the chief of police. The only evidence they have to go on is a missing cell phone, a stolen book, the victim’s letter opener, and an ugly pair of Alpaca wool mittens.
---------------------
Again, thank you to everyone who has posted info on making our books a success. I am so grateful to all of you.

I'm happy to connect with any of you on Twitter or the other social platforms. Always happy to follow back!

Julie (jflamingo) | 6 comments Hi everyone,

I recognize many of you from twitter since I love to tweet! I thought I'd join in and finally introduce myself as I don't think I have yet. I'm in awe of so many of you since I'm still aspiring to write well enough and enough volume to have something worthy of being published even in the indie world.
I enjoy writing poetry, prose, short stories, Children's books, book reviews, recipes, articles on flamingoes, weight loss, Matchbox Twenty and Rob Thomas. I'm working on a few supernatural/steampunk manuscripts presently.
I also love to blog but I think I read more about blogging or others blogs too. I love the Huffington Post blogs or their book on Blogging! They have great topics. So, I'm intermittent about my own blog. I hope that I can change that eventually.
I also enjoy scrapbooking, rubber stamping, papercrafts, book clubs and I love to read!
But mostly, I'm a mom of a very busy household. Recently, I've re-entered the work force and will be going back to school this year. Yipee! I look forward to that.
It's been nice as I have lurked to get to know each of you and finding some motivation and encouragement through your examples and works to keep me writing! :)

Eileen Batson | 1 comments Gen Y Gamers Tasked to Solve Terrorist Plot in Popular Political Thriller Novel

Two Gen Y’ers online game goes viral and hits at the heart of the terrorist money stream in Lee Kessler’s top-rated political fiction novel "White King Rising.”

In White King and the Doctor and White King Rising, Lee Kessler exposes the tactics used by terrorist Ayman Al-Zawahiri to bring down the United States from within. Ex-CIA analyst James Mikolas enlists Gen Y gamers Andy Weir and Brian Washington Carver to leverage their technology skills to stop Zawahiri from triggering his doomsday scenario against the United States. A firm believer in the strength, ingenuity and creativity of Generation Y, Kessler’s two heroes epitomize the best of today’s youth.

Just last week online gamers and researchers made the news for deciphering the structure of an enzyme of an AIDS-like virus that has stymied scientists for a decade. Researchers turned the problem over to the gamers — and they solved it in just ten days. The gamers used Foldit, a revolutionary computer game enabling individuals to contribute to important scientific research. By team playing, it harnesses the power of crowd sourcing.

Seth Cooper, one of Foldit’s creators was quoted as saying that, "Games provide a framework for bringing together the strengths of computers and humans. The results in this week's paper show that gaming, science and computation can be combined to make advances that were not possible before."

“I agree with Firas Khatib of the University of Washington biochemistry lab when he said, ‘The ingenuity of game players is a formidable force that, if properly directed, can be used to solve a wide range of scientific problems,’” said Kessler. “In fact, in the third book of the White King series, I reveal how our Gen Y gamers attack the financial problems happening across the globe.”

In a series of speeches, live talks, radio and television interviews across the country Kessler says that she has “been fortunate to meet literate, optimistic, and energetic young people who are actively engaged in working to improve our society and culture.” She believes that “by communicating with our young leaders through open forums we will understand why they think and feel the way they do and be able to work together to achieve our goals for a stronger, safer and healthier America.”

For more information visit Lee Kessler. The series is available in paperback and Kindle eBook at Amazon.

Leanore Elliott (goodreadscomgoodreadscomleanore) | 2 comments Hello, I'm Leanore Elliott and I write Paranormal Romance. The really hot kind, lol. I loved reading all the entries here.
I had 10 books published in the last year. Yes, I am obsessed. I waited a long time to write and my family lost me for the entire year of 2010. I was at the book all the time. I made 3 websites, joined at least 70 groups, started 2 blogs, appeared on about 30 blogspots and I wrote 14 books. I have given away at least 100 books in the last 6 months.
I finally ventured into making ebook covers and just today, I debuted my very first book trailer.

I've found out that I just love to entertain and since I am not a supermodel, can't sing a note and I can't paint? I paint the world into places I want to see. I do it simply to have people come on journeys with me.The audience are my readers and I take them away to another world for a few hours.
