Robert Thompson (goodreadscomBob_Thompson) | 6 comments Greetings!

My name is Robert Peter Thompson but I usually just go by Bob T. Rather than go on too long describing my book: "Everything Happened In Vietnam: The Year of the Rat", self-published under my own "Blue Moon Publishing", I am enclosing a recent review by another author.

I just recently released my book as an eBook with Kindle and it is available in Print. It is also available under other venues (Google title).

I hope you can take a little time to browse and "Look Inside" at the Amazon Kindle or Print Book sites. I am not in this for fame or fortune but do believe that my book has a lot to offer any interested reader and especially for students of history.

It is a deeply personal account of my own experiences and the guys I was with in 1969 Vietnam but it could take place in any war. The experiences, passion and pathos cross generational time barriers.

Review:
5.0 out of 5 stars Real history: raw and unvarnished..., January 24, 2012
By Doug DePew "Author of "SAT & BAF!"" (Missouri, USA) - This review is from: Everything Happened In Vietnam: The Year of the Rat (Kindle Edition)

"In "Everything Happened in Vietnam: The Year of the Rat", Robert Peter Thompson has given us a glimpse of what the war looked like through his eyes. It is very authentic. This book reads much like sitting and hearing Mr. Thompson tell his story. The stream of consciousness style lends itself well to the confusion of war. His conversational writing is pleasant. It's like sitting in a bar and listening to an old friend relate his memories. At times, I became a little lost but I'd keep reading. Then I'd say to myself,"That was well done!" I especially liked the little updates at end of some of the chapters.

I enjoyed this book. It's good to find more Vietnam veterans telling their personal stories. Our history is made up of millions of regular people. Real history isn't made by famous generals and presidents. It's made of regular people like Mr. Thompson. Too often, nobody knows about it except the people who were next to them. This book very clearly shows the struggles to mentally survive the war. I'm sure it was cathartic for Mr. Thompson to tell us his story. I thank him for sharing it with all of us."

Jack Jr. | 3 comments Hello everyone,

I am Jack Albrecht, co-author of Osric's Wand: The Wand-Maker's Debate. I'm not even sure how to insert that as a link, so you'll have to trust me on that. ;-)

I am the only one with the time to learn how to do this thing right, and I have heard nothing but good about this group. I look forward to learning anything and everything I can from IBC. I welcome any advice/instruction (I really am new to this, and I know it!) I can get. In the mean time, I think I'll just poke around a bit and see what catches my eye.

Thanks,
Jack

Guadalupe Neri (muskrat3D) | 5 comments Hello everybody,

My name is Guadalupe, and I'm the author of:

The Wood & Copper Inn and other Short Stories of the Supernatural

I am primarily a supernatural and science fiction writer, although I have written children's stories and drama as well. My blog http://muskrat3d.blogspot.com/ is where some of my story ideas began as flash fiction, although only a few of those have made it to full short stories. I also develop images that eventually end up as book covers, some of which accompany the flash fiction.

I am very new at this self-publishing thing, and I hope to make many friends. Thank you for allowing me to join.

My first book is an absurdist satire entitled Death by Zamboni and second book I'm calling a psychedelic fairytale: A Greater Monster

I write mostly historical fiction, and like most of the rest of you, I'm trying to find my way around the promotion part of this. I think it's really great that you (we) have all banded together to support each other, and I vow to do my part. I don't have a blog (except here on Goodreads) or a website, but maybe all that will change with a little support. Whatever I glean, I pledge to pay it forward!

Jim Graham (jimgraham) | 14 comments Hello from Hong Kong.

As a BritIndie I really do like a hot curry.

I'm an ex-Army crock with a pack a day habit. My current day job involves managing money for pension trusts (which is why I still smoke;-)

In my spare time I'm helping the people of Trevon to rebel against corrupt corporate rule. They're also fighting to be free of an overpopulated, climatically challenged, and resource hungry Earth. And who could blame them?

So far, I've told their tale in just two books: 'Scat' and 'Birdie Down'. But there are more to come.

The genre is SciFi adventure/military/opera with a smidgeon of paranormal/fantasy occuring in the latter stages of 'Scat'. I've been working on cranking up the pace in these stories: any one who has read 'Scat' and then 'Birdie Down' might just notice how things have developed.

I have real fun writing this stuff. Lots of it. Of serving capital or serving the cause for freedom, you can guess the one I enjoy the most.

Glad to be here.
Jim

John Logan (johnaalogan) | 59 comments Hello All!
I published my new novel, The Survival of Thomas Ford, as a Kindle ebook on Christmas Day 2011.
It means a lot to me to finally have a chance to get this book out to readers, because this novel had been locked in under contract with a London literary agent for over a year...nearer 18 months...felt longer...
My agent was certain he could sell the book, and the film consultant at the agency, who had been responsible for discovering Slumdog Millionaire as an unpublished manuscript and getting it developed into a film, thought my book was the best she had read at that agency in the last 4 years.
My agent found several editors who "loved the book", but the sales depts of the publishing houses did not agree and no sale was made.
So I have taken the book back into my own hands to sell direct to readers (hopefully)!
The novel is contemporary fiction, what you might call a literary thriller.
I would love to know what readers think of it!
All very best, John

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Survival-Thomas-...

The Survival of Thomas Ford has 11 five-star reviews now on Amazon.co.uk...at the weekend it went to number 13 in the top 100 bestselling paid literary fiction ebooks; to number 18 in the Top 100 bestselling paid literary fiction including the paperbacks; (but it is also very much a thriller! It went to number 80 on Saturday in Top 100 bestselling paid thrillers...)

Robert Thompson (goodreadscomBob_Thompson) | 6 comments Author of EVERYTHING HAPPENED IN VIETNAM: THE YEAR OF THE RAT

Hi! I am an Indy author. Sometimes I think that the actual writing of my book is another book in and of itself. I am sure a lot of you know what I am talking about. My life took some wild swings but I came out of it better than before. It's a long story.

My name is Robert Peter Thompson but I usually go by Bob T. I was a 19 year old Marine in Vietnam during the war. Perhaps this excerpt will give you an idea of how I write and what this True Story is all about:

An excerpt from the chapter: "RED LIGHT"
“The light was barely perceptible, as I scrambled out of the hole and as the blood rushed to regain its proper circulation in my suddenly unscrunched legs, the crimson light of dawn seeped into the hidden landscape of what had such a short time before been so familiar, but which now, with each tentative step appeared alien and uncertain. As if walking on the crust of unsupported ground.”

Steve Smy (steveksmy) | 18 comments Hi, the name's Steve. Decades ago, I conceded defeat to "real life" and surrendered my ambition to be an author. I have no regrets. I have been more than compensated for that by my wife and children (and grandchildren now continue that compensation). However, I have returned to writing, though it must now share with other, newer loves: knitting, cross stitch and jewellery making.
I'm currently working on my first novel of this "second era". I enjoy fantasy, science fiction, military history and various books that prove that I'm not a genre slave.
That kind of says it all for here now, I guess.

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 126 comments Hi! Rebecca Douglass. I've recently published my first as an indie author, The Ninja Librarian. Publishing it was easy, writing it was a blast (more fun than any other book I've written--and not published--which may be why it was the best so far!), and I have no idea what to do with it now (besides write the sequel, of course).

I blog at www.ninjalibrarian.com and set up a Facebook page that I'm also clueless about using.

Lubna | 3 comments Hello from Mumbai, India

I am so glad that I came across this group. At present my writing is largely restricted to my monthly financial column in India's leading financial newspaper and my blogs! I've participated in some short story contests and won a few and also written a host of travelogues which have been published by a few portals.
That said, I know some day, I should sit down and come out with my book of short stories == but it takes courage to write. Indie authors are a great source of inspiration and only recently have various publishing houses come up in India which offer opportunities to new writers.
Through groups such as these on GoodReads, I am also learning about new trends such as "collectives" which sounds awesome and would definitely add to the quality of the final manuscript.
So, I'm here to share and learn. Among my three blogs, perhaps I should introduce my book-review blog to members here:
http://booksonmyshelves.blogspot.com
While I will be away for nearly two months, I hope to participate actively in this group on my return.

So it's a wonderful thing to find a community of like-minded wordsmiths to compare notes with. I mostly write fantasy, but enjoy reading everything from history to mystery (hey, that rhymes!)

I blog over at Forum Zackerium, feel free to visit any time.
