Dee, playing a little catch-up here because I have time to play this morning. I'm glad you're here and have discovered audio books. This is a wonderful group and you're sure to find a lot of like-minded people with listening ideas--such as buying a Kindle edition then being able to get an Audible for much less money. Because I re-read lots of books, that's an important factor to me.

Susan Elle (susan_elle) Hi everyone, I'm Susan and I live in Leicester, UK.

I hope it's ok for me to take part on this site as I am also and author - though I promise no self promotion.

It was enjoying audio books so much that got me back into writing mode recently, and I love that too. In my every day life I'm a staff nurse on an intensive care unit and I love my work there too.

My sister got me into audio books a couple of years ago - prior to that I was a traditional book reader, but where do you store them all? In the end I gave them all to the Loros charity shop and now my book collection sits nicely in my draw on a tiny MP3 player.

My favourite recent reads were not romance (just for a change). The Druid Chronicles by Keven Hearne are terrific and so well narrated. However my usual favourite authors include, Nora Roberts/JD Robb, with the brilliant Susan Ericksen narrating and Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series, (just spent the afternoon and into the next morning watching all five movies back to back - brilliant).

I'm hoping to broaden my romance reading by getting some tips on good reads from this discussion group.

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 157 comments Hello everyone!

I have been an audiobook fan for the last 6 years. I could not do my daily commute without a good book to listen to. I may even get in the slow lane at the toll plaza if I am in the middle of a good chapter =)

My library has a very good selection, but I still purchase quite a few for my personal collection.

My first audiobook was Georgette Heyer's These Old Shades. I bought it from a British company as it was not available in the US way back then.

I discovered this group today while searching for an audiobook to buy with my 30%BN coupon!

Looking forward to exploring the group.

Julie Swarth | 2 comments Hi Everyone, I'm Julie and I'm from the land of Traffic and Sunshine, Los Angeles :)

Audiobooks have been my favorites for years when I started commuting for school.

I'll generally listen to anything romance, but some of my recent favorites include JR Ward's BBD series. I just love Jim Frangione's voice. I followed him to Trace of Fever by Lori Foster so I'm working my way through that series.

I also am in love with Sylvia Day's Bared to You. And a friend just turned me onto Nana Malone's Sexy in Stilettos which I literally dragged with me to bed last night with my ear buds in.

Glad to meet you all :)

message 214: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Hi everyone, I'm Lauren,

I started listening 2-3 months ago in an attempt to remedy my first person pet peeve thinking that having someone else's voice in my head rather than my own (sounds creepy, I know) would help me identify with the main character more - thankfully it worked and now I'm completely hooked.
Looking forward to comparing books and narrators with you all.

Welcome to the group Lauren! Yours is one of the most unique reasons for starting to listen to audiobooks that I've seen - what a great way to work around the first person POV issue so many people find off putting.

I'm glad your idea has worked out for you ... it sounds like a new topic we could start:

First person POV books made better/listenable with a narrator. ;)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Thanks Brenda.
Yes, it would be interesting to see if others have solved the 1st person issue with audiobooks.

message 224: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 145 comments Hi, I'm Pauline. I live in Texas and I'm fairly new to audio books as a listener. I became interested in them when one of my books released in audio, but it is kind of weird to hear your words read by someone else. They don't inflect quite the same way.

My son also loved listening to the Harry Potter books while we traveled.

Fast forward a lot of years and I saw one of those ads for Audible on facebook. I clicked over, because it was a Georgette Heyer book. I took the free book, intending that to be it...yeah, well, I have more Georgette Heyer books and have expanded to a few other authors now, though listening to Georgette Heyer books is very relaxing for me. My favorite narrator is Richard Armitage. LOL But I haven't found anyone yet that I really hate.

3) Favorite Audiobook Authors, Series or Narrators.

Judy Gill (judyinthejungle) | 26 comments Hi, Pauline. I'm Judy and live in Costa Rica for half of each year, where it's hard to get English language books, so I do a lot of on-line book buying and downloading. It's great to hear you're a fan of audio romance and that you have one of your own in that medium. What's the title? I loved listening to a couple of snippets of mine and found one of the women readers better than the other, but thought both were really good.

message 226: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 145 comments Hi, Judy! Costa Rica! How cool! My one book has grown into 11, thanks to ACX/Audible. But the first was The Key. The Key It was picked up by Books in Motion. The others are releasing through ACX/Audible. I went with a mix of readers. Some books have women, others have men. I find I enjoy both. :-)

I Love Audiobooks | 3 comments Hi! I'm Theresa. So glad I found this group - it's exactly what I've been looking for.
I live in Southern California
I'm in looooove with Audible and romance novels!
I've been listening to audiobooks for a few years now, but am somewhat new to romance books.
Recent Faves Listens: Simply Irresistable, by Jill Shalvis, Easy by Tamara Webber, Sweet Seduction #3 by Maya Banks, Lisa Kleypas for historicals, Gone with the Wind with narrator Linda Stephans was the most amazing book and performance. All the 50Shades and Crossfire novels.

message 228: by Grace (new)

Grace (mgracec) | 9 comments Hi - My name is Grace. I currently live in North Carolina. I was turned onto audiobooks about a year ago from a friend who commuted and told me about the free audiobooks at the library. I was laid off about this time last year and started listening and have been an audiobook fool ever since. I am a romance nut who tends to lean toward historicals, but have recently been turned onto paranormal and paranormal romance. Sci-fi is a fav since I am a total nerd, but I am totally open to anything that gets a good review.
My favorite recent authors are J R Ward, Lisa Kleypas, Elizabeth Hoyt, Karen Marie Moning, Lynsay Sands, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Larissa Ione, and Jim Butcher. (Sorry -- I know that is alot, but these are the authors that I follow through their websites to determine when their next release date is.)

I'm sort of a lurker on goodreads, but have recently started exploring all of the wonderful features that will introduce me to more books, especially audiobooks. I'm so excited that I saw this group!

FYI - I currently have an audible subscription, audiobooks.com subscription, and a long queue at the digital library. Can't wait to start reading everyone recommendations. :)

message 229: by Samyann (new)

Samyann | 20 comments Hello everyone.

My name is Samyann, and I'm an audiobook addict. I've been a member of audible.com for over 10 years and have several hundred audiobooks. I started listening because of airplane noise and bawling rug rats, got hooked. I think my first audiobook was a Mary Higgins Clark. Now I listen out of necessity, had a stroke (not serious, but can't see well). I've got lots of romance, there are thrillers, too. All novels, no non-fiction. Retired now, I used to write technical stuff for work, so reading has been an escape from reality for me, they are all novels, only a few biographies, like Churchill. Right now I'm listening to Safe Haven and have the LotR Trilogy and a few of the J D Robb In Death series in the wings. I joined this year, primarily because I'm an author and was looking for avenues for my book, which will be released on Audible within a week or so, which is Historical Romance. Yesterday: A Novel of Reincarnation I belong to another group on the site called Audiobooks, which is very active. Looking forward to one dedicated to romance!

Sue | 1116 comments Hi Momof2monsters, Grace & Sanyann welcome! I myself have been listening to audiobooks for about a year and average about 10-15 hours per week. Absolutely love it, a good book often turns into a great book with a talented narrator and a great book is just plain off the charts.

Looking forward to your input as well, you'll find a very active crowd in this group and we share reviews, audio "buys", narrators and anything else we think important. But we also have challenges and themed listening categories and discussions just for fun. I'm leading this quarters themed listening discussion "Bad Boys" follow the link and enjoy. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Patty (pattyaudibleyaddicted) | 4 comments Hi There ... My Name is Patty and I am currently living in Kentucky. I have been listing to Audiobooks since May, when my boss had suggested several leadership books for me to read. I found that I have zero time or interest in sitting there reading the books. I also suffer from Dyslexia and reading things that have more complex information sometimes becomes frustrating. So, I found the books on Audibles and became addicted. I have a long drive back and forth to work everyday and found that the books fill that gap nicely. I went from reading a new book maybe once a year to .... 114 books since I joined Audibles in May 2012. I think I might be addicted! (Just a little...) I have to be careful to what I listen to as Fifty Shade almost made me wreck my car the first time I listened to it ... I had no idea what it was about, just that all my girlfriends loved it.

So, some of my favorite books series .... Beautiful Disaster, Divergent, and Georgian by Sylvia Day for now.

My Favorite authors are Jamie McGuire, Jillian Dodd, Sylvia Day,Tammara Webber and Jessica Park.

My Favorite Narrators are Emma Galvin, Justine Eyre, Sarah McKee and Dan Bittner.

I am very excited to be part of the group and hear what y'all are listening too.

P.J. Sharon (pjsharon) | 1 comments Hi gang! I'm PJ Sharon from the Berkshires of Western Ma. I just started listening to audio books since I have an hour commute to work these days. Sank my teeth into OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon-29CDs! The narrator, Divinia Porter is AMAZING!

Since I'm an author of YA Romance, I also love reading YA lit, so I'm now planning to try some YA audiobooks. I found a fabulous narrator, Erin Mallon for my contemporary YA romance, Heaven Is For Heroes. She did an awesome job--I cried listening through the whole book:-)

Maddy Barone (maddybarone) | 40 comments Hello! My name is Maddy and I live in Fargo North Dakota, USA. At my job I have about 5-6 hours a day to listen to music or whatever on my phone with earbuds. After listening to the same music over and over I decided to join Audible. I just ADORE Susan Ericksen who does the JD Robb In Death books. Now when I read those stories I can hear the narrator's voice doing Peabody, McNabb, Roarke (swoon), etc. Looking forward to getting ideas of which other audio books I will enjoy!

message 236: by Shell (last edited Jun 20, 2013 01:30PM) (new)

Shell | 1 comments Hi, I'm Shell from Seattle, WA. I've been addicted to audiobooks now for about a year or so, though I've been a long time reader for decades.

I enjoy a variety of things: UP, Romance, Fantasy, Romantic Suspense, Horror, YA, Sci-Fi. My favorite authors (lately) are Kresley Cole, Jonathan Mayberry, Christopher Farnsworth, Sherilynn Kenyon, JR Ward, Nalini Singh, Marie Sexton, Abigail Roux, Karen Marie Moning, Anne Bishop, David Weber, Kevin Hearne & Ilona Andrews to name some...

I prefer male narrators, but enjoy female narrators as well. Favorites include Robert Petkoff, Eric G. Dove, Ray Porter, Oliver Wyman, Bronson Pinchot, Macleod Andrews, Kate Reading, Susan Erickson, Xe Sands, Renee Raudman, Luke Daniels, Kristine Hvam, Kaleo Griffith (sp?) and Phil Gigante. There's probably more, but I'm drawing a blank.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 7 comments Hey guys! I'm Sara from Fort Worth, TX. I've been listening to audiobooks for.... 5+ years? Something like that.

My favorite narrator is, of course, the amazing Susan Ericksen! ;) I'm completely addicted to the In Death books, but I listen to a ton of stuff. Romance, YA, Sci-fi, whatever. Basically, if a story has any sort of romance in it whatsoever, I'm game! And if it's available on audio, I almost ALWAYS go that way. My house is always soooo much cleaner when I listen to audiobooks, since I look for excuses to keep listening!

Lynette (LynettePatterson) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Lynette and I'm very new to Good Reads so please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place.

My three boys (ages 17, 13 and 10) live in a small town in East Tennessee, the same town I've lived in all my life. I love it here and always am glad to be home when I travel.

I have such a long list of authors that I love and utilize audio most of the time because of travel or even to entertain myself while sitting in school zone hell to pick up the boys. I'm always out looking for new authors to listen to, sensual romance is my favorite. In the process of divorce, I must live vicariously...LOL.

So if there are new or relatively unknown authors you love, I'd appreciate hearing about them. And thank you for allowing me to be part of this group! Much appreciated!!

Ships (shipswheel) | 1 comments Hello my name is Sharon from Cornwall, I have been listening to audio for about 6 years, only recently converting to downloading straight onto my phone, though I still buy CD's and sometimes when I am lucky enough to get a bargain on tapes.
My favourite authors vary wildly from Jane Austin to Sci/fi romance author Anna Zaires. I am hoping to unearth some gems and widen my romance listening books, as I am feeling a little jaded in this genre..I am fortunate enough to be able to listen while working, and I work a lot, looking forward to reading all the threads and blogs..

message 249: by Lea's Audiobooks (new)

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) Welcome Sharon! One thing about the romance genre - if you start feeling tired of a certain type of romance (or as you say - a little jaded), there's another sub-genre to try. Right now, I find myself turning first to more in-depth romances. I know I'll return to some light mindless listening later on.

Hope you get lots of ideas here!

P.M. Richter (pamelarichter) | 5 comments I'm Pam, and I love listening to audio-books. Living in L.A. the traffic is terrible, but I can't get frustrated when I have a good book to listen to. I'm also an author and never thought one of my own books would be an audio book, but now I have two. It's so wonderful to hear your own stories told by professional narrators. The interpretation always surprises me and make my novels come alive. Thanks for adding me to the group.
