Here's a different kind of review:

Somebody is bidding US $700 for a Hungarian translation of IDITAROD!

I've never been that hard up for reading matter.

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments I've got some Hungarian contacts - perhaps I should publish there.

I also have a friend who is conversant in several languages - Hugarian among them - perhaps I should get her to translate my book to a few of them.

Translation requires novelistic skills, not just familiarity with the language. If your friend writes well in English, go for it. I doubt you'll make enough money out of a Hungarian edition to pay her for the work.

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments She took her last years of schooling here so does write well in English, I'm not sure how her written skills are in Hungarian and Spanish, two I know for certain she is fluent in the spoken word.

But I was just kidding...

Dakota Franklin (dakotafranklin) | 306 comments I speak a few languages indistinguishably from the natives. But I don't think I would dare do translations into any language I learned as an adult. It is the small things that trip you up. Languages that I learned as a child, or no later than my teens, picking them up where my father worked, is different because I know the small things.

Andre is a spectacular linguist but he mostly lets other people translate his books. Probably for the same reason. You should get him to tell you the hilarious story of the Japanese translation that occasioned several suicides.
