Ken Smith (ken_smith) | 1 comments I'm reading The Knowledge of the Holy by Tozer (taking my time) but read Is God Calling Me by Jeff Iorg tonight after work. I have been so blessed with good books and few bad ones.

message 202: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle I just started The Truth War by John MacArthur. I'm guessing that very few Christians would like this - John insults everyone who doesn't take the Bible very seriously.

Tiffany Gallant (tiffnkailey) | 8 comments Fight Like a Girl: The Power of Being a Woman

I'm actually reading a couple of books right now. I'm kind of switching off lol.Lady in Waiting: Becoming God's Best While Waiting for Mr. Right I'm reading two Lisa Bevere books. I started fight like a girl, and then I got picked to review her new upcoming book Chicks with Swords, so I'm very excited about that. I'm halfway done with both those books. I am also in a small group right now and we are reading Lady in waiting. I love love love this book Lady in waiting. Every girl/woman should read before dating/marriage.

I like all of the Karen Kingsbury books that I have read. Just started reading the Francine Rivers & I also like her.

Aimee (twigsmom06) | 4 comments Our Young Adult Bible Study at church is reading The Furious Longing of God by Brennan Manning.

Wanda (The Watered Soul) (wateredsoul) | 1 comments I just finished reading Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate. Enjoyed it.

Aimee, what did you think of it? I absolutely love that book.

Brenan Manning is outstanding. Raggamuffin Gospel is must read for every christian and beyond :)

message 212: by Nikola (new)

Nikola | 2 comments I'm reading Hitler's pope by John Cornwell. Very intriguing book, a lot of information, it seems that there is a good bibliographic material inside. It is not easy to be a Catholic with people like some popes over our heads :)

Emily (etomko) | 48 comments Aimee wrote: "Our Young Adult Bible Study at church is reading The Furious Longing of God by Brennan Manning."

Brennan Manning is wonderful. I haven't read Ragamuffin Gospel, but my mom has a copy. I am currently reading
Shaping History Through Prayer and Fasting by Derek Prince. Highly recommended.

message 214: by Deb (new)

Deb Todd I am reading book 2 of the Intervention series by Terri Blackstock. It's called Vicious Cycle. I love her books.

message 215: by Gordon (new)

Gordon Paisley | 7 comments The Pilgrim's Progress. Great book. A little steep language, but remarkable insightful about the Christian life.

message 216: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle I have been reading:

The Roman Catholic Controversy

This book shows how the Bible has been abused for the sake of man's traditions and leadership. This is a very heavy book that will challenge any Catholic to seriously look at who they put their faith in.

But worse than that:
This book shows how the official Catholic doctrines state that anyone who doesn't fully agree with their belief and hierarchy are Anathema. And that is EVERY Christian who is NOT a Catholic.

1562 Canon (the 22nd session) stated:
Canon 5 - If anyone says that it is a deception to celebrate masses in honor of the saints and in order to obtain their intercession with God, as the Church intends, let him be anathema.

There are many many more areas where all Non-Catholic Christians are anathema. It's horrifying!

message 217: by Emily (new)

Emily (etomko) | 48 comments I'm currently reading Gods Generals Volume 1: Why They Succeeded and Why Some Fail. These are biographies of some of the "spiritual giants" of the church. There are three common threads that I'm seeing in their stories:

1. What God will do with a life that is totally surrendered to Him is limitless. These men and women literally changed history as they impacted entire communities and even countries for the gospel. Yet they came from humble backgrounds; many weren't well educated, and some were women moving in unprecedented power at a time when they didn't even have the right to vote.

2. How many of these devoted saints veered off course toward the end of their lives. Pride was a tremendous temptation with so much success.

3. How vicious the American press was even as early as the late 1800's. Newspapers were a mouthpiece for the Enemy against the work of the true church even then.

message 218: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samanthajw) | 6 comments I recently read The Christian Atheist: Believing in God But Living as If He Doesn't Exist for the second time & was just as inspired by it as I was the first time. I also am currently doing a study using The Story: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People, which is a great simplified chronological summary of the Bible. It would be a good intro for a new Christian.

Berting I am currently reading CS Lewis' The Screwtape Letters. It is very inspiring, even though it is from the devil's point of view but it focuses on how the person grow more in faith in the Lord. :) Can't wait to read it all :)

Excellent, thought provoking book! My copy is currently on loan to a friend who is loving it as well :-)

message 222: by R.J. (new)

R.J. Gilbert (rjagilbert) | 140 comments It's hard to say what I'm reading, since I can jump from book to book at times (especially when I mis-place one). I've been working on this one this weekend: I'm Fine with God... It's Christians I Can't Stand Getting Past the Religious Garbage in the Search for Spiritual Truth by Bruce Bickel

I've also been talking a lot about this book that I read a few years ago but like to bring back out this time of year and review in celebration of my family's Irish heritage: How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill
It's probably a bit of an overstatement, but I like to tell people that if it weren't for Saint Patrick, Christopher Columbus would have never gotten the idea that the world might be round.

message 223: by Cary (new)

Cary (forestercary) | 7 comments Im currently reading Sharing Christ When You Feel You Can't Making It Easier to Tell Your Friends and Family about Your Faith in Christ by Daniel Owens and I really find it inspiring to share my life in Christ with my friends and loved ones.

message 224: by D.a. (new)

D.a. Cogdell | 8 comments I recently finished the HARBINGER, I couldn't put it down. I read it in one day! I must unashamedly admit that I am reading over parts of my own book to possibly do a bible study outline based on the book. WORLD FORGIVE ME is out on Amazon as well as my website, www.dacogdell.com Forgive me for that plug! There are so many books that have influenced my life. Reading is great!

message 225: by Wm. Scott (new)

Wm. Scott Conway (wsconway) | 18 comments The Harbinger is excellent. So is The Screwtape Letters, for those above who are reading it.

I am currently reading a few Christian books. Wayward Son by Tom Pollack, is quasi-Christian, or so I am told. I am also giving my eschatological studies a good brush-up with Rose Guide to End-Times Prophecy by Timothy Paul Jones.

If you enjoy Christian fiction that is on the fringes, I would recommend speculative fiction. I cannot recommend highly enough, Brian Godawa's Nephilim Chronicles. Noah Primeval, Enoch Primordial, and Gilgamesh Immortal.

message 226: by Ms Kathleen (new)

Ms Kathleen (mskathleen) | 2 comments One of the best Christian romance novels I've read is now on sale on Amazon - LOVE'S MEMORY by Shannon O'Donnell is on SALE for only $0.99 on Kindle and $4.00 off on book price! http://t.co/hFTvzAMPZb I posted my 5* review on Amazon :)

Emily (etomko) | 48 comments I've been paging through Interpreting the Symbols and Types. I highly recommend it to any other Christian who wants to go to new heights and depths in their Bible reading. It is a reference book that I now take with me whenever I teach, and which accompanies my devotions. It explains the meanings of creatures, colors, numbers, metals, and materials in scripture, and gives principles and guidelines for interpreting characters and types. Very interesting - nothing in the Bible is by accident!

message 229: by Deb (new)

Deb Todd Reading The Choice by Robert Whitlow. This book deals with teen pregnancy, adoption vs abortion and the repercussions. Great thought provoking fiction.

message 230: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samanthajw) | 6 comments I have never read that one but I have loved Whitlow's other novels, especially 'Jimmy.'

message 231: by AlegnaB † (new)

AlegnaB † (alegnab) I'm reading "Evangelism Is...How to Share Jesus with Passioin and Confidence" by Dave Early and David Wheeler. My oldest son brought it home from college and told me I should read it. He had to read it for his evangelism class. One of the authors was his professor. It's a very good book and gives lots of things to think about and suggestions to put into practice. I'm reading no more than one chapter a day. I'll probably start it again after I finish it.

Evangelism Is . . .: How to Share Jesus with Passion and Confidence

message 232: by Emily (new)

Emily (etomko) | 48 comments I'm reading William Booth's Amazing Visions by David Ravenhill detailing heavenly visions that Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, was given. Whew, challenging and inspiring and sober all at once...this is a great little book to help "set your mind on things above, where Christ is."

Cary (forestercary) | 7 comments currently reading Finding Your Way Through Depression and it's a very insightful read. It gave me a new perspective on how to deal with people, particularly Christians who are suffering from clinical depression.

message 235: by Emily (new)

Emily (etomko) | 48 comments Just finished The Day of the Lord: The Book of Revelation Revealed. Definitely the best book on Revelation/end-time prophecy I've read - helped crystallize what is happening right now in the world...and what it is all leading to.

message 236: by Rob (new)

Rob (rpmazur) | 4 comments I'm currently reading "Chronicals of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". I've seen the 3 movies and do a pretty good job of seperating movie from novel. To me it's an easy read but I'm also feeling uplifted and noticing things in the book right from the beginning that I didn't notice in the movie. For instance, when the Faun asks Lucy if she's a Daughter of Eve. I don't remember that in the movie, which is probably why I didn't associate it as a Christian work. I am excited to read the series (in publication order) and can keep you posted if you so desire.

Rob

It is a great series! While I was surprised at the number of Christian elements left in the movies, the books do go so much deeper. Enjoy!

Forgive me if this sounds like self promotion. I'd recommend SCARED COURAGE, it's a christian novel. Check out the description here, http://www.lulu.com/shop/muriel-gill/....
Thanks

Nathania | 2 comments I am currently reading Whispers and the way I recieved this book came at such an important time just before I would face a difficult chapter in my life. It has blessed beyond what I can imagine and has inspired me to do more and to recommit myself again.

message 241: by Angela (new)

Angela Joseph | 42 comments I can recommend The Shack, if you haven't read it yet. It came out a few years ago. I recently purchased Redeeming Love, but was so turned off by the story line about a little girl being sold into prostitution, I didn't finish it. If I come across anything, I would let you know.

message 242: by [deleted user] (new)

Gods at war by Kyle Idleman, we're doing the video series I'm Sunday school. This book is very convicting and eye opening. Thank You Lord for this book!

message 243: by Rob (new)

Rob (rpmazur) | 4 comments I'm currently reading "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" by C.S. Lewis, but since I'm on 5% done with the book, I don't have too many thoughts. However, (comma, pause), I just finished reading "Prince Caspian" and I can totally relate to Edmund, Peter and Susan when they don't see Aslan right away and then have to be led to Him by Lucy and are very humbled when the see Him.

That's how I've been feeling with my relationship with God. I dedicate myself to a routine to be close to Him and then I let it slip. I am a firm believer that God puts people and circumstances in our path to set us up for success and for a reason, so I am convinced that this is His way of helping me get back on His path that He has laid out for me.

Rod Horncastle I'm reading Ken & Joni Eareckson Tada's New book:

Joni & Ken An Untold Love Story.

Amazing book. For those who complain too much (or at all) this book will make you rethink everything you've ever thought was difficult. And if you're a Charismatic faith healer spiritual blessings and magic abuser - this book will make you quit your church immediately.

message 247: by Emily (last edited Oct 07, 2013 05:55AM) (new)

Emily (etomko) | 48 comments I am reading Peter Horrobin's Healing Through Deliverance: The Foundation and Practice of Deliverance Ministry. It's practical, pragmatic teaching on healing, deliverance, and the role they play with evangelism, for people are much more open to the gospel when they are needy in these areas.

Of course there's been an increase in need for healing and deliverance with the explosion of the occult in the west, even within the church. Highly recommended, scriptural teaching on this subject.

SG (clxves) | 2 comments 'Redeeming Love' By Francine Rivers.
It's a Christian historical fiction with romance.

All my favourite genres in one book.

After I'm done with it, I'm going to read 'As sure as dawn' from the 'Mark of the Lion' trilogy.
