Cristi (chrowan73) | 18 comments I took a beginner gardening class yesterday at one of the local area's CSAs. There was a lot of good information and some gross bug pictures. But, I had no idea the planning that goes into a garden! And then one hungry deer can come along and ruin it all! I feel more overwhelmed than ever now!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) It's easy to get overwhelmed (and addicted!) In the beginning, but the best thing you can do is start out by picking a few kinds of flowers or veggies that you'd like to grow, then do some research about them (are they appropriate for your Zone, what are their sun/watering/soil needs & so on) and then plan where you want to put them, then get planting! There's so much out there to plant and so much info out there on everything (a lot is conflicting too) so start small, with a focus and build from there. We're always here for help and support too! :-)

Crystal (crystaljordana) | 5 comments This weekend I attended a great little seminar on holistic nutrition in the garden. A holistic nutritionalist walked us through a garden and talked about the uses and nutrient values of many of the different herbs and vegetables.

It was a lovely evening and educational.

This coming weekend there is one on rural bee keeping that should be interesting. If we are around I will definitely check it out.

Petra X (petra-x) I'd love to go to the one on bee-keeping. Bees and the whole industry, from home to on an industrial scale fascinate me. Sadly I'm allergic to bee stings and can't risk keeping them.

Miriam When we had a 500 colony apiary, we had lots of family and friends who came to visit to get the tour.

Petra X (petra-x) That's huge, Miriam. All the farms around you must have been very, very happy.

Miriam Petra, they were all over south western Idaho.
