Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Yes Stacey, I agree with Jonetta.

I tried to get my mother to read them but she's never been into any series with that many reoccurring characters. She liked the first one, tried Glory and then just stopped. I was rather disappointed since we love sharing books, but she doesn't listen to audio books either and that's what really sold them to me. Ah well.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments My mom read them all first, and when I asked her how she liked them (because I was going to read the first book for a reading challenge), she was like, "OH MY GOSH! You're going to LOVE them! They're AWESOME!" She was right. :)

Stacey | 45 comments Jonetta - All I can say is I so happy that I did!! Reading / listening to this series is my favorite pastime. I can't imagine my life without Eve, Roarke and the rest... :-)

Amen to that!

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I started around 1999, geez where does the time go. One of my co-workers turned me onto audio books and I picked up immortal or glory, can't remember. Then not realizing skipped around until I had read all up to that time. Then I started buying the audios when they came out. Last year I reread them in order and I found out that I had skipped vengence. I would see it in the library and say, "Oh I have read that one." Dumb, Dumb

Grace | 42 comments I started late last year and finished them in like a month. I loved how I didn't have to wait for the next book to come out too! This is my fav series now!

Wow! And I thought I was bad. That's pretty incredible. Wait til you start re-reading them:)

message 58: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 45 comments Tyraa, that is fantastic however now that you have read them all waiting until the next installment seems like forever...

message 59: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments I know this is definitely my favorite series too...i am also reading the 1, 2, 3 series by James Patterson. its okay (it takes place in ca so i am able to actually grasp onto landmarks haha) and i am going to start the a, b, c series next..but i forget who writes those. if anyone has any comments or thoughts or whatnot on the books feel free to message me :D

message 60: by Sara ♥ (new)

Haha yeah, I'm definitely a newbie. I don't know why I didn't start sooner. I don't often re-read books but I started them again as soon as I was done. They were soo good. I'm up to Visions in death now.

Grace | 42 comments Stacey wrote: "Tyraa, that is fantastic however now that you have read them all waiting until the next installment seems like forever..."

I know right! The wait is definitely killing me. I went from going one after another to having to wait. My brain couldn't understand why haha. So I'm rereading them 'cos I need my IN DEATH fix.

same here! my in death fixes came to an abrupt stop when i hit Treachery. very depressing so i have also started to re read :)

message 64: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments I just started them at the beginning of the year, but I've read (listened) to all of them, and reread my favorite ones. And I may have just listened to the first book again..... for the third time. Treachery was SOOOOO GOOD! LOVED IT!

message 65: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments I'm reading them in order, and have made it up to Fantasy. I love the penis scene and the fight at the end. Funny and exciting!

message 66: by Grace (new)

Grace | 42 comments I agree, that penis scene was hilarious!

message 67: by Michael (new)

Michael Redd (mredd) My dad and I started the series last year - he is about 3 books ahead (right now waiting for the newest in paperback). It is a fun easy read - I am now reading the Harlan Coben Myron Bolitar series interspersed with the In Death series.

message 68: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Michael, That's so cool that your Dad reads too. My mother is a great reader and stopped after the first one. I was so bummed.

message 69: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments I don't have any people reading this series with me, so I am glad I found such an active group! I am sorta glad that I am the only one I know reading this series, for reasons I myself hardly understand!

message 70: by Michael (new)

Michael Redd (mredd) I have also turned about 3 of my friends on to the series. THey get a kick out of it

Karon (agmommy) | 182 comments I only have 10 books to go and I'll have caught up to the end! I'm so sad! For the longest time I had so far to go, and now I see the light at the end of the tunnel and I'm not ready to see it yet :(

Oh, I know that feeling. That's why so many of us re-read the series...don't want to let it go.

I know that feeling, too!

message 74: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments I'll probably re-read for a long time. I have collected almost all the audiobooks. Luckily there's a few that if you go back you still find things you might have missed and get to relive a lot of the side stories featuring all the great characters. I'll probably never give them up.

message 75: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments I doubt i will give them up, as well. This is going to be the series that i fall back on when i have nothing else to read. No more emergency trips to Borders (did you know all Borders are closing??????????) because i will just go back to my amazing ID :)

message 76: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15059 comments Mod
I have every book in ebook format so I'll always have them. I've read each at least three times:)

Grace | 42 comments So true. I love re-reading parts that you've missed the first time because you read so fast. It's so exciting. I only recently got my friend hooked onto the series.
She's up to Rapture in Death and I'm jealous she's got like a million more to go.

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments hahahahaha.

message 79: by Scelest (new)

Scelest | 1 comments I was looking through a search here on Goodreads and I stumbled on Naked In Death on Jan 13 2010. I loved the book right away and picked up the next few books. I read straight through Born In Death. It was about a book a day. Then I took a week break before I picked up the rest of the series from Innocence In Death on Feb 2011. I was all caught up with the series on Feb 14. I calculated it and I read a book for about a month!

Currently I'm re-reading the whole series for the third time because I love it so much. And the reason I keep reading is Eve and Roarke, their relationships through out the books is so fascinating!

message 80: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments what do you mean you were looking through a search?

message 81: by Beth (new)

Beth (beth9206) I am just now discovering JD Robb's IN DEATH series.I am a huge Nora Roberts fan and had totally forgotten that she also wrote under JD Robb so I decided to give her books a try.I will admit, the fact that the series is set in the future had me questioning whether I wanted to read them but I kept hearing how awesome the series is so I went ahead and decided to read them.I need to get the first book in the series as I am going to read the books in order.

message 82: by Karon (new)

Karon (agmommy) | 182 comments Hi Beth! It took me a really long time to get the first book read. I started it several years ago (I had bought the first two upon a strong recommendation from my daughter's babysitter) and just couldn't get past the hideous murders that were happening in Naked in Death. Plus it was hard to grasp all of the futuristic stuff. I think I put it back on the shelf for a couple of years. Then I discovered the audio version of it in August 2010 and here I am already listening to Creation in Death. I'm jealous that you have so much to discover and I'm nearing the end!

message 83: by Trish (new)

Trish (trish94509) ops I answered this question in my intro. But basically I started reading at book three - not knowing it was part of a series - circled back and read the first two and have been hooked since then. I have read the books or listened to them several times - they get better and better each time I re-read them.

message 84: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments if at first you don't like this series, then persevere! :) i have read a lot of comments on here saying they weren't so sure about the futuristic aspect and whatnot, but upon giving it a second try, they fell in love!

i, for one, have become TOO attached to the futuristic part... i read other crime books from other authors...from the cops point of view, of course. and i get so frustrated! i start thinking, "Just run their prints right now!!" Then, i remember that in THIS day in age, we have to take out prints to the lab :(. unless you are super high teck like mcgee from ncis haha

message 85: by Tya (last edited Aug 05, 2011 07:13AM) (new)

Tya Oh my goodness, Elizabeth, I was watching Rizzoli and Isles and they couldn't identify a body and were going on and on about how long it would take to identify the girl and I was all, (with tons of attitude, mind) "why don't they just run the prints? Geez, what do these people even do? DUH" and then, "oooh yeah...in death is set in the future where all of that handy stuff has been invented already...never mind." HA!

message 86: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments haha! omg rizolli and isles! :( good old Kate from ncis haha....is she any good on rizolli and isles???

and i know JUST what you mean!

message 87: by Sara ♥ (last edited Aug 05, 2011 08:53PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments I knew my mom read the series, but I was hesitant to get into them.... I'd read a three Nora Roberts books (the Circle trilogy), and while I liked them a LOT, her writing style is.......... different......... than I'm used to. Plus, I knew there were scary-like crimes in them, and my mom said something about not reading them at night... I didn't know about the futuristic aspect until later, but I'm SURE that would NOT have drawn me in...

Anyway, but I was picking books for a reading challenge, and this one fit really well. PLUS, the library had the audio, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE audiobooks. And WOW. I was H-O-O-K-E-D! :) That was in January, and I've already listening to ALL of them, and reread all my favorites! I can't wait for New York to Dallas! I'm already on the waiting list at the library! :)

Oh, and can I just say... Whenever people talk about the NYPD these days, I'm like, "What?!?.... Oh, right... the NYPSD is in the FUTURE..."

message 88: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments haha same here! i am reading about san fran police and they say SFPD and i think....huh?! don' they mean SFPSD? then i remember, NO that happens in about fifty years from now!

message 89: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Glad I'm not the only one! :)

message 90: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments I like the futuristic aspects. They are just part of the stories to me. Naked was very description regarding a lot of the new laws like prostitution. I didn't read it first, but when I did, I thought it was interesting. I'm not put off by it at all. Although off planet travel gave me a little pause.

message 91: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Oh, I LOVE the futuristic stuff! But had I heard about it before, I think I would have been....... dubious... ;)

message 92: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments same here! i am glad i was surprised with it or else...who knows?

message 93: by Grace (last edited Aug 11, 2011 05:20PM) (new)

Grace | 42 comments I didn't even realize it was set in the future when I picked the first book up, but I think it would have made me a little hesitant. But I hardly notice it at all now, it just seems so normal to shoot off planet for a bit.

message 94: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments So true! I don't think anything of it now!

message 95: by Elizabeth (new)

One of the reasons I love the in death series is Robb is such a prolific writer. She usually writes at least a book a year with a novella. I can't think of another author that writes that much. Usually, I look of them to write one every one to three years.
