The Enlightened Diet by Kesten and Scherwitz.
This was a very good book about incorporating mindfulness and more sensual awareness into our experience of food. The basic premise is that when we take the time to experience food in a positive and enriching way (also with social support) we tend to eat better and less.
No calorie counting or restrictions, seven basic principles of eating well.
I made lean pork chops, a fresh steamed California mix (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) and baked sweet potatoes. I sat down with my two younger children (the eldest was out with the beau, of course) and we talked about their fun Halloween experience.
I also just made a practice of eating mindfully for my other two meals of the day, and really paid attention to what was going on in my body when I moved to eat. (Standing in the checkout line at Target- Do I really want those M&M's or am I just following my usual script? Nope, not even really hungry.)
Good book.
Also, I finally finished a 10 point non-fiction selection I have been working on for a while-
Reaching High-Risk Families, Edited by Whittaker & Kinney.
Dry & academic. It explained the philosophy and basic research surrounding Family Preservation Services. It is almost 20 years old, but I am glad I read it. Now I can read recent research because I have the base knowledge down.
Add 35 points for a total of 145.

Not that it's a competition; I know it's all about setting personal goals. Still, it's nice to feel "in the game" so to speak.
