Connie | 188 comments Thanks for the stats, Cynthia. They made me feel much better. I'm not doing as bad as I thought I was. :-)

Not that it's a competition; I know it's all about setting personal goals. Still, it's nice to feel "in the game" so to speak.

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I seem to be jsut reading books that I can't use for this. Like Along Came Dylan: Two's a Crowd When You've Been Top Dog and La solitudine dei numeri primi. If anyone has any ideas how to use these for the challenge, your welcome to let me know. And now, I am reading Evening Class, is there any use of that wonderful book for the challenge

Andrew (sir_reads_a_lot) | 509 comments Read a book and make a meal inspired by it.

I read Alice at Hea by Deborah Smith, nad then made sushi!! Wohoo!

message 507: by Liz M (new)

Liz M Jeane,

6. Read a non-fiction book
1. Read a book with the name of an animal in the title
5. Read a book with the name of a person or character in the title

-- The Dylan book should qualify for one of these.

6. Read a book that has the word school in the title --maybe this can be stretched to include Evening Class

Can any of your books fit the following:
1. Read a book by an author you've never read before

message 510: by Cynthia (new)

message 511: by [deleted user] (new)

25 point task READ A BOOK AND THEN WATCH THE MOVIE ADAPTATION: The cider House Rules.

That puts me at 180

message 512: by Marsha (new)

Marsha 25 Point Task- Read a book and make a meal inspired by it-

The Enlightened Diet by Kesten and Scherwitz.

This was a very good book about incorporating mindfulness and more sensual awareness into our experience of food. The basic premise is that when we take the time to experience food in a positive and enriching way (also with social support) we tend to eat better and less.

No calorie counting or restrictions, seven basic principles of eating well.

I made lean pork chops, a fresh steamed California mix (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) and baked sweet potatoes. I sat down with my two younger children (the eldest was out with the beau, of course) and we talked about their fun Halloween experience.

I also just made a practice of eating mindfully for my other two meals of the day, and really paid attention to what was going on in my body when I moved to eat. (Standing in the checkout line at Target- Do I really want those M&M's or am I just following my usual script? Nope, not even really hungry.)

Good book.

Also, I finally finished a 10 point non-fiction selection I have been working on for a while-

Reaching High-Risk Families, Edited by Whittaker & Kinney.

Dry & academic. It explained the philosophy and basic research surrounding Family Preservation Services. It is almost 20 years old, but I am glad I read it. Now I can read recent research because I have the base knowledge down.

Add 35 points for a total of 145.
