What was your first Stephen King book?
I just found out that I am supposed to leave my classroom while my student teacher takes over ... SO would it be ethical to indulge in The Stand in the teacher's lounge?
No one has mentioned The Tommyknockers. Has anyone read that? I know it was written with another author. Right now I can't remember if it was Peter Straub or Dean Koontz. I'm thinking it was Straub. That book was one that kept me awake at night. Not my absolute favorite, but close.
My first SK book was the Stand and I still love it. I was really sick with the flu and I was reading it at that time. The idea of a super flu wiping out almost everyone kind of hit home a little at that time.

My first Stephen King book was Nightmares and Dreamscapes 1. Followed closely by Nightmares and Dreamscapes 2 and The Dark Half. My sis still has nightmares about Nightmares and Dreamscapes =x
I was a little late getting into Stephen King. Duma Key was my first and I LOVED it.

And I'm on my 8th King novel. Duma Key was my 3rd King read, and I really enjoyed it! For me it was creeptastically great! :)
"The Talisman" was my first King read, followed quickly by "The Tommyknockers". I've been hooked ever since.
Misery, was my first Stephen King book and then he became a favorite author of mine.GO STEPHEN KING!

Pet Sematary was my first, and it will always have a special place in my heart for being my intro into the Stephen King universe.

i did an assignment in year 9 on the compilation of short stories Everything's Eventual. That was my first introduction to King
I believe it was The Dead Zone, but I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't finish it. I was very young at the time and had no patience for King's leisurely style and I just gave up on it. The first King book I finished was probably Pet Sematary and since then I've read about 15 King novels and short story collections. And I really have to go back and finish The Dead Zone!
My first King book was, I believe, Just After Sunset. It was decent with a couple great short stories. Then I went on to read The Tommyknockers
Oh gosh, I can't really remember the first King book I've read, but I think it was It. I remember being in jr high & being absolutely terrified! & that was when the mini series was on every year, I never watched it, because the opening sequence scared me, lol, so I read the book! Too funny!!
Blake wrote: "The Stand. I have read it multiple times and still love the story!"I am reading The Stand right now for the first time. I'm so eager to find out what happens. I'm about 60% done with it.

I finished that one before starting Gerald's Game. The Stand was a great read, and I'm sure you'll love it. Even more if you have the un-cut version.

I have the complete and uncut edition. Its 1141 pages.
I found Tom Gordon in my school library and quite fancied a creepy one. I really enjoyed it but not at all like the King's I've read since! The second was Needful Things. WOW. That was when I knew I'd be reading the lot.

The Stand is an impressive first book to read of SK! Mine was Skeleton Crew and I knew this man was the master of horror! Later on I realized he was a master storyteller =)Kathryn, was it you who wanted to read Before I Go To Sleep? I'm liking it much more now than I was. I should be done by today actually .

Its an AMAZING book. If you like the book you might like the show they aired back in 1994. It had Gary Sinise as stew and molly ringwald as frannie.
If anyone wants the links to the full shows someone uploaded on youtube, send me a message or something. I have them all saved.

Haha, funny you say that...My dad taped The Stand mini-series with Gary Sinise and I've seen parts of it several times. Fortunately, I don't remember much about it, so I can't really compare the show and the book. I found it on Netflix, and once I finish the book, probably tonight or in the morning, I'll watch it. :)
I think either The Stand or The Shining was my first. I can't really remember, honestly. But both are fantastic!!
Kathryn, I'll be interested in hearing what you think about The Stand miniseries after finishing the book. I thought Gary Sinise was perfect was Stu, but not so much Molly as Frannie. Some of the casting was spot-on and others left me wondering what were they thinking?? :)

Gary Sinise is okay as Stu, I thought, but I think the best casting jobs were done with Nick Andros and Tom Cullen :)
Bridget wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "Diane wrote: "Kathryn, I'll be interested in hearing what you think about The Stand miniseries after finishing the book. Bridget, I agree about Nick Andros and Tom Cullen. Every time I think about Tom Cullen I can hear him say "M-O-O-N that spells..." sounding and looking like that actor.(Bill Fagerbakke)

It's been a few years since reading Salem's Lot...."
I see that you haven't read The Stand yet. After a thousand pages(give or take)and you see the words The End, you'll be disappointed there aren't a thouasand more.
