I remember attempting to read "Carrie" when I was like 11 years old. But the first Stephen King book I FINISHED was "Misery" which was about 20 years later. That book was amazing, could NOT put it down! That started the KING journey!
My first was The Stand and I was about 13. Although there are others I love, that will always be my favorite!
Im actually new to READING King, myself. My first and only so far was about half of The Skeleton Key short stories. That said, i have seen The Shining, and The Secret Window (i think that is what truly hooked me), as well as The Langoliers and The Tommyknockers when I was a kid. Never did watch It. Not interested in that kind of scare. I really want to see The Mist movie now after reading that, as well as, The Monkey next year. As far as reading, I plan to read Misery next for my first full novel. I am intimidated by the length of the others, but am very interested in The Stand, Salems Lot, Pet Semetary, The Dark Towers, and the collection with Secret Window (what was that again? I wrote it down). Yeah, excited to begin my journey!
Edit: oh yeah, and I have watched Carrie too, a couple versions.
FireStarter & Then IT right after FireStarter. I read FireStarter before I watched the movie & I recently found out they made a remake of it in 2022. It’s not the same. Some movies aren’t met to be remade in my opinion.
My first King novel was the Stand, I was a fan of Lord Of The Rings. When I had heard King wrote The Stand as his post apocalyptic version, I had to read it. I’ve been a fan ever since.
Hello everyone! New to this group! My first SK book was Salem’s Lot as a young teen. Scared me sooo bad! I have been a ‘Faithful Reader’ ever since!
My first book was Pet Sematary, but surprisingly.. it wasn't the book that made me start to really like King. I only finished Pet Sematary a week ago, and right after I got Different Seasons and that was the book that started hooking me. Now I'm reading The Shining.
Carrie and the Shining were the first books I read of Stephen King. I read those two back-to-back as well lol
'Misery' was my first. I had finished my book on holiday and so found it in an English bookshop and read it for the remainder - so glad I found it!! One of my favourite books ever, it was terrifying!
I think it was Salem’s Lot during a course I took comparing books of the same genre from different eras. Dracula was the counter to it, and I discovered that I adored horror novels and Stephen King.
I was one of those middle school kids in the late '70s that carried around a Horror paperback with his regular allotment of schoolbooks. One of those, my first King book, was Night Shift.
