The Shining!I remember being about 12-13 years old and my dad had it on his nightstand. He wasn't a big fan of me reading it, so I took it when he wasn't home. It scared me a lot. When my dad finished it, I took it to my room and continue reading it under blanket with a light... I was terrified, but I could not stop reading it!
I have been reading King off and on ever since. I do need to be in a King-mood, but he usually gets my out of a readingslump :)

I love Mr. Mercedes.

My first was The Dead Zone! I was fifteen and borrowed it from my boyfriend at the time. I had never read anything like it before and was completely consumed by his style of writing.
I started the Bill Hodges trilogy and finished the third book yesterday. I liked them a lot! Any suggestions which book to read next!?

Had to write a review on G/R to start the process of getting it off my chest?!

Thanks!
I may be dating myself here but my first Stephen King book was "Nightshift". I was hooked from then on.
I'm not sure if I put this on here before but it was The Stand. I was 16. And I was home with a cold. Yeah. I was terrified.
The Shinning was actual my first SK book. I scored a pretty old edition at Goodwill and knew I had to make it my first King book!It took me awhile to read it, if I'm being honest lol It was a lot to take in at first because I didn't know what to except. I didn't know anything about King's books. But I have to say, I really really enjoyed it!
the first king book i started to read was haunting, but the first book i finished was salems lot
Needful Things was my 1st King audiobook (14 cassettes) when I was 17, but my 1st read (I think) was The Running Man (Bachman) in paperback from the library when I was 13. I really got into reading & listening to all of his books after reading the Dark Tower saga in 2010.

I've commented here before but for all the new people coming in, my first King book was Cujo. I was maybe 10 or 11 years old at the time. Been a huge fan ever since!
As I’ve previously mentioned, the first S. King book I read was “Carrie,” in 1976. I was a junior in high school and been reading his books since then.
Salem's Lot, back in high school. LOVED IT! have read it 5 or 6 times since then. next Carrie, then The Stand and was totally hooked.
had heard of the guy before but did not know what the fuzz was about. one day, a couple of years ago, i picked up "the outsider" by accident. solely cos i loved the hardback cover. the item was physically solid in my hands.
the first 100 pages or so might be some of the best i have read (ever?). brilliant set up. hooked me.
unfortunately not a big fan of supernatural stuff but didnt matter. kings magic had already worked its way to my heart.
kings writing n storytellin and character work is unrivaled. insanely good.
My first King book was a toss-up between Carrie or Pet Semetary...can't remember which was my first book
Wow! IT is a big Piece to take on initially. What was your impression? Love at first sight or did it grow on you? I am yet to read it. Waiting for My Swedish edition so i have a backup in case i dont understand some parts in the English version...
