Not his best but really got me hooked in his work!

Alicia A. | 21 comments Like many of you, mine was also The Stand, it was the original version and I read it when I had a cold so that was fun. I like the extended better because as far as I'm concerned more of Stephen King is always better. I'm torn about the new series coming out because I really like the '80s one. (yes, I'm dating myself)

Alí Gómez (gomezmoron) | 0 comments My first was Riding the bullet at 10 years old but it was Pet Sematary at 12 that got me into Stephen as an author and all his books.

message 1607: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Hahn | 4 comments My first King Book was "Carrie". I read it 20 years ago when I was a teenager and I did not fully appreciate it. I am due for a re-read. My first one recently that has kicked off my new love and fanaticism of King is "The Gunslinger".

message 1608: by Shayna (new)

Shayna Kwiat (shayna62442) My first one was Salem's Lot. My father was the one who got me into Stephen King and I remember him telling me he thought the book was so scary he had to turn on all the lights in the house.

message 1609: by Mike (new)

Mike (theneverendingtbr) 'salems Lot (back in 1999-2000)

message 1611: by Yusuf (new)

Yusuf My first Stephen King's book, and favorite (till now), was IT. I started reading it on the first of march 2020, and it took me a month to complete.
The most significant element of the book that amazed me, and made me consider it a wonderful unique book, was the coherence of the events. I mean how he brought you back and fourth from the year 1985 to 1958, was just....fantastic!
I really felt for all of the Loser's club, I lived with their troubles, happinesses and thoughts for a month. The book introduced me to the wonderful king, which I have till now read 23 of his books I feel like I have a lot to say about the book, but I sense that my mere words wouldn't truly express how wonderful it was and just like Stephen King once said in "The Body":

"The most important things are the hardest things to say, because words diminish them"

So the only I can tell you to do right now, is to read the book, if you haven't already.

Demetri Kouvalis | 2 comments Oh wow, that's a great question and I wish I knew the answer definitively. If I had to choose, I think it was either Eyes of the Dragon or The Shining, but I'm leaning more towards Eyes of the Dragon because I was on a fantasy kick back then when I was a young kid reading the Redwall and HP series.

Liam Davies (ldavies27) | 1 comments My first Stephen King book was IT, not only was this my first Stephen King book but this reminded me of the qualities and joys present in fiction as a whole. After not reading for a few years, I picked up this book from the school library (mainly because it was the thickest book I could find at the time), I did not think I would ever actually finish or enjoy this book, but how wrong was I! I didn't realise that this book would end up being one of my favourite books of all time and also rejuvenate my love for literature. Thank you, Stephen King.

A J R | 14 comments Night shift back in the summer of 1991. And if memory serves the shinning was the first full length novel.

Alicia A. | 21 comments The Stand. The original version. I was 15, I had a cold, it terrified me, I never stopped loving that book and I never stopped reading SK after that.

message 1618: by Fandomfuser (new)

Fandomfuser IT. I was 15 I think, so maybe not the best one to start with. But I loved it and since then it has become my comfort book. Whenever I feel down I read it because it lifts my mood.

message 1619: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela Georgieva (gabrielageorgieva) | 3 comments The Green Mile. I was 15 and my dad bought it for me during a vacation so I would have something to read at the beach. I loved it and decided to read all of King’s books.

message 1620: by Shayna (new)

Nichole It was Night Shift and I was about 11 years old. My Mom was sure it was going to turn me into a psychopath. :)

Joseph | 7 comments Cycle of the Werewolf was my first. Checked it out from the library as a kid. I had seen the 1990 version of IT before reading the book and was too scared to try it for a while. However, since first reading it, I've probably read it 7-8 more times

Kerri | 1 comments It's funny how you never forget your first, my first King novel was Misery. It didn't have a cover so my mom didn't know, I was 8 and it was summer break. I've been his since then.

message 1632: by Derrick (new)

Derrick | 973 comments Cujo was my first as well. I think I was around 10 or 11 at the time. That was the one and only time I've ever read that one. I definitely need to read it again.

message 1633: by Amelia (new)

Amelia Harrell (ameliaharrell) | 114 comments My first was either the Tommyknockers or Dreamcatcher, it is hard to remember now. I may have even checked them out of the library at the same time. I was 9 and loved Goosebumps. King was a lot scarier than Goosebumps!

message 1643: by Blair_Cait (new)

Blair_Cait | 4 comments Tommyknockers was my first. I was 9 and sleeping over at a friend's house. I woke up crazy early and didn't know what to do, so I went to her mom's bookshelf and took down Tommyknockers. By the time everyone else was awake I was engrossed and her mom let me borrow it
