What was your first Stephen King book?
Maybe I will try the Dark Tower Series again. It has been years since I read the first one and didn't love it.

My first King novel was The Stand. I read it in middle school and was so disturbed I kept hiding it from myself, but so in love with the characters I kept finding it again.
The Shining was my first Stephen King novel :) I was about 12-year-old and had been exploring my parents' library when I stumbled on the book
Pet Sematary was my first. Don't know how it happened, but it ended up in my lap when I was very young and scared the bejesus out of me. Surprisingly though, I have lots of pets today :)
Salems Lot. It was a requirement in my 8th grade English class. We got to see the movie after we did our reports too.
My first king novel was The girl who loved Tom gordon, and i read it when i as about 12 or 13. I loved how it was about a child, and being pretty young myself felt i coulee relate to it. it is what really got me interested in more of his novels and short stories. I am currently 15 and have since read about 10 or 15 books with more to come!
My first was The Shining. Probably not the best one to introduce yourself to Stephen King with, but I read Carrie afterwards and I liked it a lot better.
The Shining. In 1980, I was a freshman in high school and that book made me a fan. The Stand in 1981 made me a believer and Constant Reader. 'Salem's Lot, Christine and Pet Semetary rocked my HS world and made me ask Dean who-ntz?
Gordon wrote: "Salems Lot. It was a requirement in my 8th grade English class. We got to see the movie after we did our reports too."I wish I'd been in that class. We had to read The Outsiders.
Mine was Carrie, a gift for my 12th (?) birthday. Because I partly identified with the issue at hand (the bullying, not the TK haha), it has stuck with me since then. It's probably my favorite book out of all the ones I own,

My first King book was It, when I was age 14-15. I had seen the movie and really liked it and my stepfather had several shelves on one of his bookshelves devoted to King alone so I borrowed that one to read. I loved it. After that, my stepfather suggested Carrie for me and then I kept borrowing them until I decided I needed all my own copies :).
The Gunslinger. Read the series like one possessed. Once that was done I decided I needed more. Really got me back into reading again. Something I enjoyed as a child but stopped doing as an adult. Now I have a whole shelf of just my Stephen King collection.
I started reading Stephen King in secondary school my first read was carrie and then kept reading them in the order they were released
"The Body"
And it changed my predjudice opinion on King back then.

First Stephen King book was Night Shift, my mom had a very old battered copy on the bookshelf and first non-short story book was Carrie.
My first Stephen King book was Different Seasons, I read it when I was eight years old. I think my first full novel was Needful Things.

Yes, Dr. Sleep was good too. The only book I have had a hard time finishing is From a Buick 8...ugh, it's painful.

Ha! You all had parents that you got King's books from. In 1980, I had to read The Shining out of my parents' sight (they caught me at the half-way point and decided to let me finish)!:>)
My mom was a King fan right from Carrie and never had a problem with us reading them. I'm glad! My kids read him early too.
The Shining. I'm reading it now, my first Stephen King book. So many people (including myself) can't believe I've never read a Stephen King book lol
Yep like others, The Shining. I think the curiosity of experiencing the differences between Kubrick and King is what made me pick it. You would hear so often how different they were and that the book was far superior. I agree.
My first Stephen King book was Eye of the Dragon. Absolutely loved the book and have read many more by him since.
Linsey's Story....I've read 24 since, and I'm ready to read that one again soon, it was not a great one to start with.....I really believe it requires an understanding of King's universe....perhaps some DT novels would help make that one and Rose Madder more enjoyable.

It relies too heavily on the readers familiarity with his worlds and quirks.
My first King book was The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. I was not a big reader in High school and didn't care to read. I need a book to read for a book report and took that one. I loved it.I have gotten into books and audiobooks as of late and have finished the first 2 books of The Dark Tower series, Under The Dome and 11/22/63. The latter being my favorite so far.
I am currently reading Mr. Mercedes. I am also listening to From A Buick 8. I am going to get the Colorado Kid to read for this group discussions.
My first King novel was The Stand. Pretty heavy for a 12 year old, but I managed. It still remains as my favourite King novel to this day!
I honestly can't remember. Every time I see this thread I try to jog my memory. I think I was 9 or 10 when I first read King. Throughout my teens I read and reread everything he'd written up to that point and would always buy his new releases the day they came out. I'm 43 and still do. It seems like King has always been a big part of my reading life and always will be.

Hey, Colton, I'm a big audiobook fan too. I've always said that the audio of "the girl who love tom", is one of the best of the bunch. Try it if you need a read for a long trip... also great for people who profess NOT to like Stephen King.
Rose Madder was the first one i read. It didn't leave much of an impression, probably because I was to young for that kind of novel. Shortly after I read IT, and I have been addicted to SK's writings ever since.
Rose Madder didn't leave much of an impression on me either (and I was already a King fan). But you got past that and read IT. Kudos!

Justine wrote: "My first King novel was The Stand. Pretty heavy for a 12 year old, but I managed. It still remains as my favourite King novel to this day!"It's my favorite too. But it's quite impressive to read it as a 12 year old, its incredibly long (and scary...)
My first was Cell and to be honest, wasn't an amazing place to start. Did I like the book? Yes, it was alright. But I think I could have loved way more to have started with Misery or The Shinning instead.
I cant seem to remember if it was Eyes of the Dragon or Misery. I do remember i read them one after the other.
The Stand, and it traumatized the hell out of me. I actually hid it a few times so I wouldn't finish it. The only problem was, I always remembered where I hid it . . .
