Debra Mccauley | 25 comments Hi all you STEPHAN KING FANS YOU!

I started being read to at 3,

Started to read to my self at 4 - 5.

Got the first of my long line of library cards at 6 and started meandering from used book store to book store at 6.

Every Monday Wednesday and Saturday I'd be found cozier up in a story/ library till closing tine. I devoured books. To this day when people give to me a gift it's Opium perfume by Yves St Laurent, or a book by my favourite authors, of which I have numerous favourites.

I'm 63, still reading like it's being outlawed next week.!!

I love it.

message 863: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 57 comments I read Pet Sematary when I was in school. But I didn't read anything Else of his until just recently and I chose to start with Bag of Bones. I have been wanting to read that one since I saw my dad with it when I was 8 but I was told I wasn't old enough to read it. I have also finished The Green Mile, The Shining, and Doctor Sleep.

“The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.” has to be in the top five best opening lines ever.

message 869: by David (new)

David James Firestarter was my first King book. I was young at the time and thought it was the best thing I've ever read...then I became acquainted with his other works.

message 870: by Maura (new)

Maura Lorenz | 7 comments My first Stephen King book was Salem's Lot, I was hooked to his writing ever since. However, I never really got into the Gun Slinger series, I guess now that I'm retired I'll have time to read it. But first I have got to read Mr. Mercedes!!

message 873: by Oscar (new)

Oscar Aparicio pedrosa | 4 comments My first King book was insomnia. Was a surprise because i've always thought that SK was a horror novelist. But Insomnia, The langoliers, and then The Dark Tower novels convinced me that SK was a great novelist, not only for the stories but for the words.

message 874: by Fabricio (new)

Fabricio Fernandez | 1 comments The first book of Stephen King I ever read was Bag of Bones. My girlfriend was very into horror at that time

message 875: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 57 comments Bag of Bones was my second and I loved it.

message 876: by S (new)

S Pet Sematary. I was staying at a vacation cottage (it's a lot less fancy than it sounds), and there were a ton of books and mags left in front of the TV by previous patrons. Someone left "Pet Sematary". I read it -or most of it-and it freaked me out, particuarly the kid's funeral, about which there is nothing supernatural. Paying it forward, I left my copy of "Wired" (the book) and Rolling Stone for the next inhabitants.

Great, great book!

message 878: by Michael (new)

Michael Davis I've already been thinking of what my sons first Stephen King book might be. He's not a reader yet, but neither was I until I first read Pet Cemetery. I think I was in probably 7th or 8th grade. He's not quite there yet though.

John Lawless Carrie.

Susan (edgarsden) | 88 comments Carrie. I decided to start at the beggining of King's work and read my way up to his latest works.

I remember when HBO was a new thing and they would play like 12 movies a month over and over and over and I watched Cujo about 100 times in one summer. It's a great book and one of the few movies that is almost as good. Dee Wallace was the quintessential 80's mom, right?

message 884: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (queenjaneapproximately) Bag of Bones when I was 12.
My family rented a vacation house for a week one summer, and I had finished the book I brought. I checked out their shelves, and Bag of Bones was the only thing that looked interesting. I wasn't finished by the time the vacation was over, so I made my mom call the people renting it to us and ask if we could keep it! Luckily they said yes, and I've been hooked ever since.

message 885: by Liz (new)

Liz The Tommyknockers, and I loved it! I need to reread it though, as I remember little.

message 888: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3 comments Salems lot was my first i have every book now and re read them all the time! SK is an amazing writer!

message 889: by Michael (new)

Michael Jensen (michaeljensen) | 46 comments Either The Stand or Salem's Lot, I think. It was a long time ago!

message 890: by Nick (new)

Nick Roles Salems Lot was my first. Found it a bit of a let down but I'm glad I picked up another SK book and gave him another go. Found him to be a great writer. Will revisit Salems Lot again some time and give it another chance. I don't think it's the best intro to his writing style.

message 891: by Leah (new)

Leah | 24 comments I think my first King book was Dead Zone. I enjoyed it. I was glued to it the entire time I was reading it. I also liked its TV adaptation on... I want to say SciFi?

message 892: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Haydel (lhaydel) | 3 comments It was my first book. I was hooked after that! I love Stephen King now.

message 893: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh my gosh this question is so hard because I'm 45 years old and I've been reading his books since the late 1980's. I graduated High School in 1986. If I had to guess, it was probably "Carrie". But my all time favorite book that I can read over and over and have the big book unedited edition that he put out years ago. is "The Stand" I don't know why I adore that book by him but I do.

I think you should disturb a teacher whenever you can. I try to disturb my teacher/wife as often as possible. :-)

BTW, I went back for a high school reunion and was amazed to see several stephen king books in the required reading section of the student bookstore. One of them was The Shining.
