Jonathan Janz (jonathanjanz) | 19 comments My first was The Tommyknockers. I know it doesn't have the rep that a lot of his books do, but man, that book changed my life. I was fourteen at the time. It turned a non-reader into a reader and made me believe in my own intellect. I'll always love it for those reasons and more.

Latashia Figueroa (goodreadscomlatashiafigueroa) | 13 comments My first King book was "Pet Sematary"- I actually did a book report on it in grade school. I still remember my English Teacher's comment:
"Latashia, your report, although dark, is quite good."
Yes, I got an "A" and my mother encouraged me by buying me more King books.

Alli The Book Giraffe (allithebookgiraffe) My very first SK book was Lisey's story. It was when i was 12 and it was so captivating to me. before that book i had never even read one book just cause i wanted to.

message 707: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments I skimmed "The Shining" in middle school, I know a sin right, but then read Carrie. I loved "Carrie" so much that I promptly reread "The Shining" and it is my favorite.

message 708: by Matt (new)

Matt (batteryacid) The Stand. Thick for 14 but my God, it was hard to put down! :)

message 709: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (chkntza) I am going to reread The Stand. It has so many references to other SK books and I have seen the movie so many times I want to read it again.

message 710: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiefkno) | 1 comments Rage...not a typical Stephen King book if you ask me, I don't think he has ever written something like it again. It was published when he was writing as Richard Bachman and I don't think many people know about it because it's not "scary" as his other books might be. I have read many of his most notorious books but I still think it may be the best book he has ever written.

Lee Barrow | 1 comments Mine was "Salems Lot" and I was in the 7th grade. This book totally freaked me out and I was hooked on Stephen King after that!

message 712: by Ivana (new)

Ivana Bojadzievska | 1 comments Mine was "The Black House". I read it without realizing that it was a sequel to "The Talisman". It got me hooked anyway, and I'm a huge fan since then

message 720: by Sara (new)

Sara Campbell (admiralawesome) | 26 comments My first was Pet Semetary. I watched the movie first so I wanted to see how the book compared.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Aneela wrote: "Mine was Christine, only started reading King this year. Thought it was amazing, and it's not even one of his best works :)"

I think it's pretty good though. And one of the few books where King describes the terrible winter. I liked that a lot.

K.L. Turner | 63 comments My first was "The Gunslinger". Been hooked ever since. It's been eons since then and I'm still not caught up on his books. I blame Dean Koontz, Robert R. McCammon, Peter Straub and John Saul for that.

message 723: by Ella (new)

Ella | 7 comments My first was Carrie in high school over 25 years ago. Happened to come across the book in the schools store and became a King fan instantly.

message 724: by Malina (new)

Malina | 304 comments It's been so long I don't remember, but it may have been Pet Sematary or Christine

Ivana ♑ | 3 comments I'm not sure, but I guess it was The Shawshank Redemption

message 726: by Nick (new)

Nick Hoy | 8 comments A girl recommended this crazy long, intriguing story...The Dark Tower. I've been tunneling through all his books ever since, and I haven't made it out yet. Not sure I want to.

message 727: by Rainier (new)

Rainier | 22 comments My introduction to Stephen King was Misery. The book scared me to the point when I wasn't reading it, I had to put it in a different room.

Dakota★Magic in Every Book (magicineverybook) I believe mine was "The Shining" sometime in high school. I read Carrie and Pet Sematary right after but quickly stopped reading King because of school asssignments. I'm now back to reading his stuff. Night Shift and Rose Madder are next on my reading list

message 729: by Gary (new)

Gary Martin (gmmartinbooks) | 93 comments The Stand was my first introduction to his books many years ago. I think that was a good start.

message 730: by Chris (new)

Chris Boesl | 2 comments My first introduction was The Stand in high school in 1982. Was "required" reading. I'm so glad it was. I've been an SK fan ever since and have actually read The Stand three times now. Currently reading Doctor Sleep.

message 731: by John (new)

John Reeves | 17 comments My first King novel was the first novel I'd ever read, and was Christine back in 1988 or 89.

message 732: by Ross (new)

Ross Buffa Cycle of the Werewolf.

message 733: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 5 comments My first King novel was The Green Mile. My mom had borrowed it from a neighbor and I borrowed it from her after I saw the movie in theaters. That copy still resides on my bookshelf today.

I saw 'Pet Sematary' at the open air theatre in Concurry, north-west, Queensland. The only outdoor, open, roofed, cinema, left in Australia, The Bio Theatre. Great laying back on the canvas seats looking up at the stars, & 'Pet Semetary' way good! Way, Way, good!!!

message 740: by Tim (new)

Tim Pet Semetary got me hooked on Stephen King!

message 741: by James (new)

James Loftus For me, Carrie, was the first, but what really hooked me was going to see The Shining at the cinema.

message 742: by Tim (new)

Tim Pet Semetary was the first BOOK. BUT Carrie was the first movie.

message 743: by James (new)

James Loftus I'll get back to you, I thought Carrie was both the first book and film.

Though I'll never forget Pet Semetary, just where I watched it the great vibe in that unique cinema.

A lot of stars in the sky in outback Queensland.

Don't go anywhere I am checking that Carrie thing ...

message 744: by ★ Liane ★ (new)

★ Liane ★ (twistdsky) My first Stephen King book was Skeleton Crew, since the I started collecting his book but I haven't read them all yet. I only read Blaze. And soon I will read Carrie.

message 745: by James (new)

James Loftus Tim wrote: "Pet Semetary was the first BOOK. BUT Carrie was the first movie."

Tim, I'm back! Just like Jack in The Shining, almost.

I checked it out Carrie was the first book & film, then the next film was The Shining. Which I personally love.

I hope you don't mind a bit of a debate.

message 746: by Tim (new)

Tim I think we have a bit of confusion lol. I was saying that pet semetary was the first SK book I read and Carrie was the first SK movie I saw.

message 747: by [deleted user] (new)

Firestarter for me. I have not read it since high school and definitely should reread it sometimes soon :)

message 748: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Liane wrote: "My first Stephen King book was Skeleton Crew, since the I started collecting his book but I haven't read them all yet. I only read Blaze. And soon I will read Carrie."

Blaze is not one of his best. In fact he calls it a trunk book, one he wasn't sure was good enough to publish. Carrie's much better.

Sorry about the mix up. I got excited for a sec, because thought I was an authority on something. I do know a lot about cricket statistics from the 1978 Australian tour of the West Indies ... any taker?
