What was your first Stephen King book?
#The Dead Zone- I was around eleven yrs old. I hav been a life long constant reader sheerly for pleasure. King is a literary genius & I'm his #1 Fan *-*. Any1 who thinks reading is a drag should pick up any 1 of his tales, he'll take u 2 places you'll never forget & his stories will haunt ur dreams. Bad A** = SK!!!
For me, it was the foil covered paperback edition of "The Shining", that I retrieved from a large lot of pb's going to the garbage. It was a total impulse that has led to a wonderful journey that started in the summer of 1982... Thanks "Uncle Stevie", you're the BEST!!!
My very first one was Hearts in Atlantis, but as you may know it is a collection of short stories. So my truly first King's novel was IT.
IT. I read the book 5 years ago and it was spooky! I will say, that by the time I was at the third interlude, I kept asking myself, "How is this King guy not institutionalized yet?". It's a scary novel, but it's not all about the clown, which I liked. The book reinforces the idea that the 90s mini-series didn't do the book justice--in my opinion.
My first Stephen King book was Full Dark, No Stars..... awesome book. It's a collection of short stories and boy do they get you hooked. He really knows how to play with your emotions and dearest dreams of a perfect life. I am currently reading Under the Dome.
Salems lot. I loved it and was hocked from there on. I remember it like it was yesterday. I am dyslexic and could not read until I was around 11 I had to take a class for kids with dyslexia. I always loved horror movies and watched a bunch of Stephen king movies not being able to read when ever some one said Stephen kings it, ex ex I thought he was like a director or something. Then one day after I finished the class my dad told me "you know all those Stephen king movies you watch are based off of books. Stephen king writes books." Lol. The next day I went to the school library and grabbed the first Stephen king book I could find which was salems lot. It was actually the first book I ever actually read.
Hmm... That's a really good question. Might have been It. Might have been Carrie. Think it was It though.
The first SK book I read was the paperback of IT when I was 13. Not one of my favourite ones but it did hook me to King. I haven't stopped reading King since IT.
Mine was
Salem's Lot
- my Mum got it out of the library for me shortly after my 12th birthday, with some comment along the lines of "I've wanted to show you his books for a long time and I think you're grown-up enough now." (I think she chose my 12th birthday specifically because that was how old she was when
Carrie
came out and she became a King fan herself, but thought that 'Salem's Lot was a better one to start on.) She also read
Christine
to me when I was a newborn, but that doesn't count since of course I have no memory of it.
My first book was la niebla (the mist). After watching the movie I had to read the book. Ps: does this group have some sort of poll? Meaning... A list of books or something where you can just click on the one you choose, and automatically goes into a bar chart?
My first King book was Firestarter when I was 8 years old (I was a rather precocious child and taught myself to read at 3). I have been a true addict since, and have read almost every non-fiction book he has ever written.

THIS! I was in high school and that book scared the bejeezes out of me.
All of you were supposed to read King books during school? you were so lucky, I had to read some "classic literature" that was so boring that I hated reading during elementary and even high school.
I was writing a biographical novel that kept getting darker and darker, so I decided to go horror. My writing instructor still didn't think it was very good. Finally he said, "go buy 3 books by King and do what he does even if you have to copy it word for word." I went out and bought THE SHINING. read all of it in a few days, then sat down to write and the scariest thing I'd ever written just exploded out of me. I still think that The Shining was the scariest thing I ever read in my life. I followed it up with Christine, which was pretty damn scary too.
hey hello hello hello (super spammer hehe :D )My very first Stephen King book was "It", I think I went hardcore at once :P
my second was "The Shine", my third was "The Stand", my 4th was "The Body"... wow, I really am S.King geek, i didn't even know I remebered these things :D
The Shining - I loved it so much the next day I went to the bookstore on my lunch hour and bought everything I could find. I think I got The Stand, The Dead Zone and something else. It's hard to remember as it was in the early 80's - I'm lucky I can remember any of them.
The first book I read was "It". I stole it from my moms book self when I was in 4th grade. I would hide it under my bed, cause I thought I wasnt allowed to read it. Well my discovered the book and toom me to the library to pick out more. I have been an avid reader and collector of his booms ever since going now 20 years!
Thinner, I was really young when I read it or tried to read it so I didn't end up really liking it that much. It's one of those King books I need to go back and read again because I am sure I would like it alot better now as an adult.
The Dead ZoneI remember finishing it(I was only 15 years old) and could not believe if anyone could write a novel as great as it was!
NIGHT SHIFT ...It was given to me one day by a substitute teacher we had in english class in high school right before he kicked me out of class and sent me to the principles office that day for bringing illicit substances onto school property ... (i.e. RUSH) ...LOL ... He never got his book back ...
I think it was either Night Shift or Cujo, when I was probably about 11 or 12. I read everything of his I could get my hands on of his after that.
Christine! I was so hooked. I can't wait for each new release! He is my favorite for sure.......and his son Joe Hill is a close second :)

I commend you both. . .I'm 50+ & tough as nails, but, nope, ain't gone be able to do it! LOL
My first was Carrie. I remember my mom taking me upstairs in the library to the "adult" section, and I felt so important. But there were so many books, I didn't know where to start, so she recommended Stephen King. After that I devoured IT, and the rest is history, so they say.
