David Hudnut | 3 comments Salem's Lot for me too. I remember having the book on the nightstand beside my bed. The creepy girl with the drop of blood on her mouth, illuminated by the blue glow of my LED alarm clock. It scared me so much I turned it over when I went to sleep every night. But I couldn't wait to read more and more and more....

Randy Eberle | 92 comments For you Shining fans that may not know, King's new book coming out in September (Dr. Sleep) is a sequel to The Shining. :-)

message 605: by Rohith (new)

Rohith R (rohith8193) | 6 comments my first king was pet semetary. That one was a dark hand that was slowly creeping across my heart and clamping down on it. i had trouble sleeping after reading it at night. :)

message 606: by Jane (new)

Jane Myers | 10 comments The Shining. I bought my copy when living in Brussels in 1977. The cover has almost completely faded and the pages are all coming out but it's still one of my favourite horror novels of all time.

message 607: by Tash (new)

Tash Dahling (misstash) | 79 comments My first was Pet Sematary. I was in my early teens I think. Soon after I read The Dead Zone and Misery.

message 608: by Lucy (new)

Lucy (mesdupmoi) | 76 comments Dreamcatcher :) Then The Stand, Carrie and Pet Sematary and just about to start reading CELL.

Sam (samclark72) | 3 comments I'm not 100% but I think it was Skeleton Crew, I know I saw that book in a magazine at my Aunties house and thought it looked good so went looking for it. I just can't remember if I got Skeleton Crew first or couldn't find it and got another one instead, it was one of the first I read anyway and I was about 13 years old. I still love The Mist and a lot of the other stories in it and enjoy rereading it from time to time.

message 610: by Ana (new)

Ana | 1 comments IT! I was 13 or 14 at the time and was studying for exams. I remember I was so scared and frightened that I couldn't possibly fall asleep without someone by my side. Ironically, I could not stop reading :)) And to this day I am still a little suspicious of my sinks...
His best novel, in my oppinion! Characters well developed, great plot!

message 611: by Fernanda (new)

Fernanda | 4 comments My first book was Pet Cemetery and then Insomnia.

message 612: by TheCuriousDeer (new)

TheCuriousDeer | 5 comments My very first was Misery in my early teens. I was lucky to have a dad who is a King fan. Still one of my all time favourite books to this day. I must have read it over 10 times. Which reminds me - I need to get that in again this year. It's been a few years since I last read it!!

message 613: by Steven (new)

Steven Barras my first was Dead Zone. couldn't put it down.

message 614: by [deleted user] (new)

My first was Cell, then Gerald's Game.

message 615: by Randy (new)

Randy Eberle | 92 comments Mine was Christine.

message 616: by Karen (new)

Karen L (1karen1) | 34 comments IT.
For some reason my mother figured 12 was old enough. I wasn't old enough. Book scared me. Like, losing sleep scared.

I loved every minute of it.

message 617: by [deleted user] (new)

I've heard a lot of good things about that book. I will have to put it in my wish list to add to my next book purchase.

message 618: by Marcia (new)

Marcia Bass | 1 comments Carrie. Published in 1974..... I think I read it in my freshmen year of college, so that would be 1976..... I've been a fan ever since.

message 619: by Kumonee (new)

Kumonee | 7 comments Cujo for me-

message 620: by Karen (new)

Karen L (1karen1) | 34 comments Cujo is my father's favorite King book. Everytime we got a dog he wanted to name it Cujo. I think that a little bit morbid.

message 621: by Kumonee (new)

Kumonee | 7 comments So I named an adorable kitten Cujo to stave of the morbidity!! I had to curtail myself as well to NOT name by dogs Cujo- your dad must be a dinosaur like me!!!

message 622: by Karen (new)

Karen L (1karen1) | 34 comments I was born in 84'. My dad was 57'. I love everything about him. Except when we are watching Star Trek and he wants me to rub his feet. That's where I draw the line.

message 623: by Randy (new)

Randy Eberle | 92 comments My first king book was Christine. Still one of my favorites. :-)

message 624: by Karen (new)

Karen L (1karen1) | 34 comments Now this wasn't my first King book by far. But The Regulators was my first Bachman book that I read. I love, love, love this book.

I've talked to a lot of people that like Desperation better, but for me, The Regulators read like a movie. I could picture every single scene.

Loved it.

I loved Regulators, loved the concept, and especially loved how the whole town started turning into the old west....I just felt it was underdeveloped. IMO Desperation was the better book, but I liked where he was going with the Regulators better...if that makes sense. LOL

message 626: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) | 64 comments My first Stephen King book was IT as a 13 year old kid, allowed to check out books from the "adult" section of the library for the first time. I fell in love and haven't turned back!

message 627: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 24 comments The Gunslinger for me.

message 628: by Katie (new)

Katie GW (katieteacup) | 7 comments The first SK book I read was "IT" and I haven't looked back at all. It definitely started an addiction.

message 629: by Costas (new)

Costas Ioannou (greek_tornado) | 77 comments The first one I read wad Bag of Bones; a friend gave it to me for my birthday.
In retrospect it's not the best of King's works, but it got me rolling.

message 630: by Karen (new)

Karen L (1karen1) | 34 comments I actually really like Bag of Bones. I have an audio copy of it because Mr. King reads it. I could listen to him talk forever.

message 631: by Venkat (new)

Venkat Satya "The Tommyknockers "is my first SK book.

message 632: by Aditya (last edited May 03, 2013 01:06AM) (new)

Aditya I started reading them chronologically so it would be Carrie for me.

message 633: by Paul (new)

Paul O’Neill Salem's lot, great book to start on. The way a vampire book should be!

Aditya Paul wrote: "Salem's lot,The way a vampire book should be!"

That would be a cool one to hear him read! I'm going to have to look it up.

No sparkly vampires there. I loved it!

message 639: by Kalle (new)

Kalle Klitgaard | 2 comments my first SK book was "Pet semetary".

message 640: by Andii (new)

Andii Reznor (andiilovesoasis) | 23 comments Carrie, which I admit is a bit cliche, but I was in seventh grade, and it was a gift from our librarian, who got it for me, because she knew how much I loved horror novels, and wanted to see me read something at "my level," she said. I was the only person in seventh grade who was at a college reading level.
I've been rather addicted to his work ever since. I was sort of primed for reading Stephen King, as in elementary school, I read a lot of RL Stine, which I hear is sort of a "gateway drug" to Stephen King novels.

message 641: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 92 comments I found King was my gateway drug to R.L. Stine! (of course, Stine wasn't around when I started reading, so that kinda makes sense...)

message 642: by Carol (new)

Carol My first King book was The Green Mile. I didn't know he was the author of "It & Carrie" which were my two fav. horror movies when I was in elementary school and I read a lot of R.L. Stine too! :)

message 643: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Dubay (lauriedubay) My first King book was Rage, before I knew Richard Bachman was Stephen King. I was about twelve, when you could still get Rage as a single. I don't think I realized it was King until many years later.

message 644: by Mark (new)

Mark Bitton | 3 comments My first Stephen King book was The Shining. I think I was about 13. Borrowed the book from my brothers wife.

message 645: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (rhavenize) | 44 comments Cujo. I was 14 and I bought it at a yard sale.

message 646: by [deleted user] (new)

Carrie when it first came out, picked it up from the PX after reading several of his short stories in men's magazines.

message 647: by Donald (new)

Donald Scott (writeondon) I honestly don't remember, but I think it was either 'Carrie'; that was decades ago, but I think my sister read it and I copped it off her when she was done.

message 648: by Martina (last edited Jun 30, 2013 11:30AM) (new)

Martina I picked up Bag of bones a few years ago but apparently it didn't impress me enough to buy other King books. It wasn't until 11/222/63 that I turned into a fan. And I've been working my way through his work since then :)

I read Bag of Bones again since then and liked it a lot better. It probably helps that I am now reading the original versions vs. the translated into German versions. I think SK is incredibly hard to translate and a lot gets lost in the translations. Also I noticed his translators take a lot of liberties, which may be necessary but I still think it sucks.

message 649: by Sorin (new)

Sorin Cioriciu (ceferistul) it was actually the first one he wrote, carrie, and i read it as a kid

message 650: by Seed (new)

Seed | 20 comments For me it was The Gunslinger. That started this horrible obsession that I have.
