Gary Martin (gmmartinbooks) | 93 comments My first book was THE STAND. It had me from the very beginning. I could hardly put it down until I had finished it. Out of all the King books I have read it still ranks up there near the top.

message 558: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (spookymulder86) Pet semetary! I've re-read it a bunch of times since, but I first picked it up in the seventh grade. The older I get, the more I take away from it.

Beth (1tuffcookie) | 55 comments My first was IT! Read it in the seventh grade, bought it a flea market. It is one of my favorite to this day.

I always recommend the Dark Tower series, I recently got my mum started on them :)

Insomnia is a great choice too - not too scary! Also, have you read The Talisman? More fantasy than horror and a personal favourite of mine. I recommended it to my mum and she absoultely loved it :)

message 563: by Marie (new)

Marie | 7 comments I actually have the dark tower to start myself. I've never read them as I thought I didn't like fantasy writing

message 564: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 341 comments I bet you will love them Marie! They are amazing and all of SK's other books have connections with them.

message 565: by Marie (new)

Marie | 7 comments I'm actually struggling at the moment - I start a book and then change it the next day! Usually some SK fixes that!!!!! I might have to start it today.

message 566: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 341 comments I felt a bit like that yesterday, I started a new book and I'm finding it hard to get into and it's tempting to change to something else but I'm doing it as a group read which is good as it gives me an extra incentive to persist!

Good luck - let us know how you go :)

message 567: by Marie (new)

Marie | 7 comments I will, gonna start it when I go to bed. I'm also gonna treat myself to Insomnia for my kindle to indulge myself in after Dark Tower

message 568: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 341 comments Insomnia has heaps of connections with DT so perfect follow up!

message 577: by Lanie (new)

Lanie (icevamp) | 145 comments The Dark Tower is awesome! The Gunslinger is hard to get into - its mostly exposition, setting up Roland's world. The 2nd & 3rd books are two of my favorites! Happy reading!!

message 578: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Biggs (jessicabiggs) The Stand, and its still my favorite. I started reading it when I was 12 after the first day the miniseries was on tv

message 579: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Moller Mine would have to be Skeleton Crew, there is just so many great stories in side it's pages.

message 584: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny (stephenythereallifeanniewilkes) My first "attempt" at Stephen King was Gerald's Game but I was only I think eleven, and I didn't get very far before I realized I was probably too young for it. LOL So after that I stuck to RL STINE(haha) until I picked up Bag of Bones and the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. I loved Bag of Bones. It was actually my favorite by him until I finally got around to reading IT about 5 years ago!!

message 585: by Trent (new)

Trent (stephenkingaddiction) | 152 comments Read Carrie when I was 15 it was barely good enough to finish then read it or the stand couldn't put either of those down

Hard not to be after the Shining. That book is terrifying and wonderful. One of his best, for sure!

Seif | 1 comments IT. one of the best books i've ever read in my life

message 598: by Novia (new)

Novia (novroz) | 76 comments mine was Rose Madder. I saw his movie first before reading his books. I first saw Thinner and it amazed me to the level I want to read his books. Rose Madder wasn't his best but it was good enough for me to want to read his books again....and he is now my number one author :)

message 599: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 92 comments The Shining. My freshman English teacher was reading it. My mother wouldn't let me see the movie. Becoming a King fan was just a natural progression. Scared the crap outta me when I read it and freaked me out 30 years later when I reread it. My favorite King.
