What was your first Stephen King book?
I agree! The Talisman is awesome. However one of my favorite books is Black house. I love Henry Leyden!
'The Running Man', and then 'Thinner' -written under his Richard Bachman pseudonym were my first discoveries of Stephen's work. When I found out his 'real name' I went in search of more, and read Carrie next - and of course I have been hooked every since!

I haven't read The Tommyknockers yet but have just ordered a copy online and can't wait for it to arrive so that I can get stuck into it!
Michelle wrote: "I haven't read The Tommyknockers yet but have just ordered a copy online and can't wait for it to arrive ..."Just make SURE you've got a couple days free - you will NOT be able to put it down!
My first one was just Under the Dome. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to finish it because it seemed too big. But, it was so addictive... could hardly put it down.
My first was actually a box set of Salem's Lot, Night Shift and for the life of me i can't remember the other but i think i can be excused as i got them for Christmas in 1982 when i was 12.

I've read The Green Mile about half a dozen times, Always makes me cry."
I first read The green Mile when it came out in 6 parts.... drove me mad waiting for each book cos i'd get one and finish it in a few hours then have to wait weeks for the next one!!!

My first Stephen King book was Pet Semetary when I was 15! That started everything! I've been a Constant Reader ever since!
My first Stephen King Book was Salem's Lot than Carrie now I get every one of his new books as they come out.
My first King novel was "The long walk". I actually took the book with me and was reading it while walking. Quite surreal...Shortly after that I stayed up late at night to read "Carrie" in one go. And I was hooked ever since :-)

Thanks for the recommendation :¬)

Joyce wrote: "Anyone read "Needful Things"? May be blue print for "The Stand",?"I haven't read Needful Things yet, but it's the group read for January so I'm looking forward to reading it then.
Can't really remember. Think it was Pet Sematary first then Salem's Lot. Though it may have been the other way around.
My first Stephen King book was, The Green Mile. It was superb. I've read about 20 SK books since then and I do believe it still may be my favorite.
I read NEEDFUL THINGS many years ago so I'm sure there are some details that escape me, but I don't see a clear connection to THE STAND. I do have the book, though, so I may just skim through it and see what I find. It was a good book and I wouldn't mind reading it again, but right now I'm reading THE PASSAGE and it takes up all my reading time.

I've read it. It's very good. The movie was horrible.

It has just the right amount of supernatural stuff in it so as to not scare you from the books but to lure you in. I love that book

First book was Cujo: masterpiece, jaw dropping, thrilling, captivating, chilling! It was an amazing discovering of King's TALENT !!
My first Stephen King book was Carrie. It was newly released, and all of the adults in my world were wondering what was wrong with the teen aged girl in their midst. Seeing me reading this did not help them understand me any better. I liked it so much that from that point on, I would wait impatiently for his next books to come out.
Pet Cemetery . Still to this day one of my favourite books. I've devoured everything I've been able to find ever since - its been 20 something years now
My first was Firestarter followed by Carrie. And, as they say, the rest is history. (Can't wait to get my hands on Dr Sleep)
My first was "Dreamcatcher". I remember I read it on a train while it was snowing and maybe that's why it's one of my favorites.
I started with with the short story collection Night Shift... and i still believe that is the best colection i have ever read!!! the stories in that are simply amazing.. and yea, got addicted to his books in the process..
I'm thinking way back to early high school here but I think my first King book was Desperation and it definitely got me hooked! The Bachman Books may have been my second read I think.
after watching three old, David soul, tv series as a child, I decided to read the book, which I loved. after that, I planned to read all his books & went about my task in chronological order until his endings became difficult to swallow. I took a hiatus for a few years & thereafter, returned to Mr king with a fondness I had lost for awhile.
I think my first was The Tommyknockers. Might have been The Stand, tho, I don't recall! Either way, got me hooked on SK from then on!
Carrie for me too! But I think I was around 11 and didn't understand the whole 'PLUG IT UP!' scene at the time. I think I followed it with Cujo and Night Shift. Then I didn't read him for years until Rose Madder. That's the one that really got me hooked on King.
