The edition that doesn't have a cover associated with it yet still says A MacKinnon's Rangers Novel when you put the cursor over it.

I'm not trying to be a pain in the arse, I'm trying to understand what needs to be done to fix it.

Exactly where are you seeing this? Sounds like a caching thing.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 64 comments When I pull up the book, I see the cover I added last night with Defiant(MacKinnon's Rangers #3) as the title. Then to the right I see a book with no cover associated with it and when I put my cursor over it it shows Defiant (A MacKinnon's Rangers Novel) again, with the generic cover that says Book Cover Image Not On Hand.

Yet, when I actually click on that generic cover, it brings up the book with the correct cover and title, and then to the right it's the generic cover again, but with the correct title.

So in the "other editions" section?

That has a 48-72 hour cache, IIRC.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 64 comments Yes, in the other editions.

I didn't add the book itself. It's been there for at least a couple weeks, I only added the cover yesterday when the author put it on her blog as the official cover.

When you say cache time, what do you mean?

message 56: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
I mean that you're not seeing what IS there, you're seeing the stored (cached) version of what WAS there. It will update about 48-72 hours after I edited.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 64 comments Oh, ok!! So it's not something I can fix by clearing my own cache.

Thanks, rivka. I sure appreciate all you do!

Oh, sorry! No, this is GR's cache, not yours.

It's always nice to find out something ISN'T my problem! LOL!

Thanks again!

Would someone please merge the editions of "12 Months of Trying: My Submissions for a Calendar Year" on my author page? I appreciate the help.

Daniel | 6 comments Rivka, you combined the three editions of my book, "Infidel Poetics"--as I requested--thank you!--but the cover image was dropped from the edition shown on my page. Could you restore the cover image of "Infidel Poetics" to my author page?

And one other question: if I supply you with a cover image for the book, "The Dandelion Clock," could that be posted as well?

Muchas gracias!

Daniel Tiffany

I added the cover image to "Infidel Poetics," I assume it is the same as the other editions.

And if you provide a link for "The Dandelion Clock" someone will get it uploaded! :)

Daniel | 6 comments I'd like to post a bookcover image for a book, "The Dandelion Clock," which is already on my author list. Is it possible to send a librarian the image as an attachment (not via a link) in order to have it posted?

Thanks very much for your help!

Daniel, if you join the Author Program, you'll be able to upload cover images yourself. And it's also fine to email cover image attachments (with an email explaining what ISBN they correspond to) to support@goodreads.com.

Meanwhile, I think I found the cover for that book.

Theo | 5 comments According to the copyright page of Rewind, it was "First published in 2004 as Drummer in Great Britain." So I believe these two titles should be combined as different editions of the same book. Not a librarian on the site, but wanted to make the suggestion.

I got this taken care of for you.

message 74: by Theo (new)

Theo | 5 comments Thanks Jared. Just one more thing, it says the original title is Rewind, but it should say Drummer, as Drummer was the original British title, and Rewind was the American version published a year later. Sorry to be picky, just want to make sure it is right!

Manybooks I asked a GR friend who is a librarian to combine the following three books because they are the same or at least they seem to be the same, but she could not do it, because the authors are listed differently and there might be other issues as well

Encyclopedia of Ancient Deities by Coulter & Turne

Ancient Deities: An Encyclopedia by Charles Russell Coulter

Dictionary of Ancient Deities by Patricia Turner

The book I reviewed is the first one I listed, Encyclopedia of Ancient Deities and the authors are Charles Russell Coulter and Patricia Turner. It would be nice if all three (which according to my research are, in fact, the same) could be combined.

Since they are combined, it shows both edition and the most popular one is the one that displays. If the British version becomes more popular, it will move that title first. Hope that makes sense.

Fixed the authors and combined the encyclopedias. One question though. Is the dictionary the same as the encyclopedia? Just want to make sure before I combine it as well. From what I can tell, the dictionary is different than the encyclopedia as it has Patricia listed as the first author.

I have not read the "dictionary" but from the description, I am pretty well sure that they are one and the same. But if you want to keep it separate, maybe that's not such a bad idea. Oh, and thanks for combining the two encyclopedias.

Looks like they are the same, if you look at the WorldCat Entry for Dictionary of Ancient Deities under "Notes" in the details section it says Originally published: Encyclopedia of ancient deities / by Charles Russell Coulter and Patricia Turner. Jefferson, N.C. : McFarland, 2000.

I combined them. :)

Michael,

These books have already been combined, combining is our way of linking editions of the same work together so they can easily be found.

We do not delete books that are out-of-print, because users might still have that particular edition added to their shelves. The ebook version of "Ladies and Gentlemen...The Redeemers" with the ISBN #9781452340029 is the most popular edition of your work, which is why it shows up first on your page. Currently there is no way to change that edition.

Sandra (readingontheporch) | 269 comments I need someone with more librarian experience to help me with this. When trying to combine editions, the page for author Heather Huffman shows two different titles in a combined edition. I'd like to sort through this mess, but am worried that I might do something wrong. Can anyone help me? Is there such a thing as a librarian mentor?
here's the link: http://www.goodreads.com/book/combine...

Thanks.

message 94: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments If you only want to separate one edition out of the combine, click the "separate" link to the right of that particular book.

To separate multiple editions of out of the combine, click on "separate tool" at the bottom of the work you want to separate things out of, it brings you to a page that lists all the books, a keep column, and a separate column. Click on the radio button for the books you want to separate, and hit the button.

Keep in mind though that the this will give you two works, one with the original book and one with the book you separated out. So, if there are more than 2 books that needs to be separated, you'll want to do them separately or separate out all of the 2nd book and then go back and separate out the 3rd.

I fixed up Heather Huffman. :)

Deb (soulhaven) | 3 comments Could someone please merge my Kindle and Paperback editions:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17... - Paperback

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16... - ebook...

Now, I added the ebook edition a few months ago, and entered my author name as Deb E. Howell with the period after the 'E'. My publisher added the paperback more recently and entered my author name as Deb E Howell, without. I don't really mind either way, but it means I'm here as two distinct authors. Can that easily be changed?

message 100: by Brenda (new)
