Vampire wine.....made in the USA...in CA. what did I have with it? not sure......

Oh, it does have a Lord Byron Poem:

The Giaour
But first, on earth as vampire sent,
Thy corpse shall from its tomb be rent
Then ghastly haunt thy native place,
And suck the blood of all thy race;

There from thy daughter, sister, wife,
At midnight drain the stream of life;
yet loathe the banquet which perforce
Must feed thy livid living corpse:

Thy victims are they yet expire
Shall the demon for their sire,
As cursing thee, thou cursing them,
Thy flowers are withered on the stem.

Lord Byron 1813

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I am currently, um, enjoying a very unusual Indian dessert in celebration of Diwali. My office is run by and Indian family, so they bring it in every year. I have no idea what it is called, or even how to describe it. It's like very dense, crystalline cotton candy and tastes of almonds and sugar, but that's just my best approximation.

Apparently, it's soan papdi. I dug out the packaging so I could look it up. It's made of ghee, rosewater, almonds and pistachios. The ingredients are baked, then shaved and the shavings packed together. It's bit like eating very tasty sawdust.

I like Rudy's, Alice. I miss that place.

Cam | 112 comments I just ate a home made chocolate chip cookie. I ran out of butter and had to use a freezer burned stick of margarine. It didn't taste too bad considering there was a slight freezer burn after-taste.

French fries from Five Guys.

Félix (habitseven) Are you a Five Guys fanatic?

message 867: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24819 comments Mod
No - I went there for the first time today. I don't think I'll be going back very much, it's very crowded and it took 10 minutes to get my order.

It seems like Obama and Joe Biden are always going to Five Guys together. Right? Or am I confusing it with another burger joint.

Lobstergirl | 24819 comments Mod
I see now that their fries are fried in pure peanut oil. That explains why they don't have a huge amount of flavor, I guess. They're not bad though.

message 869: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I miss (not) the days when they threw a big chunk of beef tallow into the frying vat. Now that's flavor.

message 870: by Cyril (new)

Cyril I've never been to Five Guys, but I went to In-N-Out a few times since a lot of people were raving about it. I wasn't impressed.

message 871: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I was expecting regular popcorn so it was a shock to taste sweet. Inspection of the bag said "sweet and salty" flavour. The dogs are enjoying their treat.

Deli potato salad with onions, red and yellow peppers, peppercorns, and some kind of herbal leaf. Sage? Followed by some pickled beets. Now I'm preparing to eat an apple.

message 875: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) How does one "prepare" to eat an apple? Is that like what the Texans call "fixin'"?

message 876: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24819 comments Mod
I have taken it out of the refrigerator and once it reaches room temperature, I will be able to et it. I am also mentally preparing myself.

I guess it was just really rich. Everything in it tasted natural and full of flavor. The textures were right, the crust was good. It was from a French cafe, I guess they know what they're doing.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments since I cannot eat pizza (no mozzarella allowed due to the migraines), I have come up with an alternative: take a loaf of whole wheat, high fiber ciabatta bread and slice in half lengthwise. Lightly toast under broiler. Prepare as directed 1 pkg.froz. creamed spinach. spread over the bread. add chopped peppers, onion, mushrooms and chopped tomatoes, pieces of cream cheese. bake at 400 for 10 min or longer if desired. came out pretty good.
