Scott Robinson (scottbrobinson) | 11 comments From Catullus by Gaius Valerius Catullus

From Catullus available on Kindle.

The work is comprised of select translations of the ancient Roman poet Catullus. This is a poet who often unfairly gets second-fiddle to contemporaries like Virgil, Ovid and Horace. At a glance Catullus' verse is jocose, impassioned and extremely bawdy. However beneath the surface exists a craftsmanship of unmatched musicality and breadth. These latter are the qualities I hope to capture in my own translations.

Simon Dunn (sighdone) | 18 comments Rotten Apple Seven Deadly Stories From The City Of Sin by Simon Dunn

"A noir masterpiece.

A stirring and fast-paced action spectacular from start to finish, Rotten Apple pulls no punches in shedding light on the dark underbelly of one of the world's most intriguing cities. Parodying the conventions of classic pulp, Simon Dunn gives us an anti-hero we can be proud of: Vic Malone - cop, rebel, lover, and all-round tough-nut. Never flinching, relentless in his adherence to justice, he rightly deserves to become a household name. Great fun!"

Marchez! — A race for survival

When Rhodes Delaney challenged James Alderston Whitbury III to a grudge match she chose the most grueling of all tests — the Iditarod: a lethal dogsled race across the perilous wastelands of barren Alaska.

Through life-sapping storms, howling blizzards, and deadly sub-zero temperatures, the racers must struggle over treacherous mountain passes where the sun’s rays never reach, cross frozen rivers risking the icy torrents below, and pass enraged bull moose, ravenous bears — and the world’s largest, hungriest wolf pack.

In Iditarod, André Jute puts the reader’s feet on the ice and on the runners for twelve hundred hazardous miles of the last great race across the last dangerous frontier as the exhausted bodies and hallucinating minds of the contestants battle towards the moment of truth — when Man and Nature exact the ultimate reckoning from each other.

Reviews of André Jute’s novels

“Wild but exciting. A grand job with plenty of irony.”
New York Times

“So bizarre, it’s probably all true.”
London Evening News

“This is an important book.”
Sydney Morning Herald

“Keeps up such a pace and such interest that it really satisfies.”
Good Housekeeping

“A masterly story that has pace, humor, tension and excitement with the bonus of truth.”
The Australian

“Jute has clearly conducted a great deal of research into everything he describes, investing the novel with an air of prophecy. His moral and ecological concerns are important.”
Times Literary Supplement

“Andre Jute's Iditarod is the finest piece of fiction that I have read about The Greatest Race on Earth. Packed with adventure at every turn, nail-biting suspense, touches of endearing humor and the fine, subtle thread of romance, this tale speaks to what readers crave. Although written for an adult audience, I recommend Iditarod for grades 7 and up.”
Margie Myers-Culver/Librarian’s Quest

“Iditarod forges a path through your imagination. Like a runaway train, it pulls you along in its wake, constantly stimulating and exciting. This adventure would set a teenager’s head on fire as it subtly covers issues of integrity, morality and human decency. The quality of the writing is superb: one particular line about solitude rang in me like a bell.”
William White/Amazon

“Intense, riveting, wonderful book.”
”Kindle Addict”/Amazon

“The sheer reality portrayed is daunting. If you enjoyed Jack London's White Fang and The Call of the Wild, give Iditarod a try. You'll be glad you did.”
“Trek”/The wool and the word

Is Lisbeth Salander a feminist — or a comic book avenger? Is her creator Stieg Larsson a feminist — or a prurient, violent hack? What is the Millennium Trilogy really about? Is it literature or vicarious violence and sex? Should Eva Gabrielsson be in charge of the Girl franchise? Should there be a second Salander Trilogy? Who built the Stieg Larsson myth, and is any of it true?

Best selling authors André Jute and Andrew McCoy wittily investigate the evidence — and arrive at the correct politically incorrect answers. They fix the blame for the Larsson scandal on… surprising people. Some Millennium fans will riot, most will be riotously entertained.

‘Jute is great…a private godsend.’
Ruth Rendell, The Times

The apartheid regime in South Africa twice sent assassins after Andrew McCoy, claiming his novel The Insurrectionist was a ‘blueprint for black revolution’ and a ‘handbook for the ANC’.

Like Larsson, André Jute has been a journalist and graphic designer. His novel Reverse Negative led to the exposure of the spy in the Queen’s household, Anthony Blunt. He is an acclaimed expert on the thriller, his Writing a Thriller going into three ever-expanding editions over 25 years.

Jennifer Snyder | 4 comments Hey everyone. My novel Shattered Soul, an edgy YA, is available for Kindle and priced at $2.99. Here is the blurb:

Hellish Nightmare...

If seventeen-year-old Seth Bradson were to describe his life in two words, those would be the two he’d choose. Seth prefers to cope with his crappy existence by spending his days in a drug-induced haze. But when Ali Carson steps into his life, Seth finds something he’s subconsciously been seeking—a new drug, one that consumes his mind unlike any other.

Love.

In a moment of unforgivable weakness, Seth allows Ali to try crystal meth, his most addictive temptation. This single event begins the unraveling of both their lives and forces Seth to learn the definition of regret the hard way.

Sweet Light

By Jen Wylie

When fate conspires against you and gives you three loves to choose from, what do you do? What if you make the wrong choice?

Shara is a healer, raised and trained from childhood until her unique gift manifests itself. When she gains the rank Journeyman she is hired to serve as the court healer for the barbaric kingdom of Glendor.

Untrained for war, she is thrust unmercifully into its bloody arms when the kingdom is invaded. Ordered by her king to the front lines to tend the wounded, she is forced to flee when their camp is attacked. Happening upon a wounded soldier in the forest, every mile back to the capital is a struggle, and breaking the healer's code, she falls in love with her charge.

If Shara thought that to be the least of her troubles, the appearance of a fierce warrior captain who appoints himself her protector, teaches her differently. Trouble comes in threes at the appearance of a former love and fellow healer. Faced with decisions of the heart and the sudden manifestation of her gift, there is little room for anything else to go wrong. Or at least that's what Shara thought.

Natasha Duncan-Drake (tashaddrake) | 3 comments Greetings all,

have just joined the group and have to admit, I don't own a Kindle, but I do use Kindle for PC and Android - makes life so easy. I prefer DRM free books so that I can read them on my BeBook too. Hope to find some good recs in the group.

I have a couple of books out for $2.99 (well a little under that just at the moment since Amazon discounted them).

Cat's Call by Natasha Duncan-Drake Cat's Call - YA (with a mind for adult readers as well), contemporary fantasy. Magic, shape changing, mutliple worlds, good vs evil, even one anti-social vampire hanging around.

Sacrifice of An Angel by Tasha Duncan Sacrifice of an Angel - Contemporary fantasy with a side of murder mystery set in the home counties UK. Think Harry Potter (with grownups) mixed with Midsommer Murders type of thing.

Now to go see what I should be reading :)

Felicia Rogers (feliciarogers) | 45 comments Over twenty years ago, I had surgery for scoliosis. During which time Shriner's Hospital for Children offered to pay if our insurance wouldn't.

I'm a fairly new author. I've published a novel and two novellas with two more novels set to come out this year. Recently, two of my children were diagnosed with severe scoliosis. This brought back memeories of what Shriner's had thought to do for me.

So for every copy of "The Perfect Rose" I sell during the month of June through the publisher's website I will donate 50% of my personal profit to Shriner's Hospital for Children. I mention this here because the book costs $2.99. :)

Here is the direct link to the book if you would like to purchase and support a great cause. http://www.astraeapress.com/#ecwid:ca...

Andrew Ashling (andrewashling) | 4 comments My series The Invisible Chains is priced at $2.99. So far two parts are published, the third will be published by the end of this month.

The Invisible Chains - Part 1 Bonds of Hate (Dark Tales of Randamor the Recluse, #1) by Andrew Ashling
The Invisible Chains - Part 1: Bonds of Hate
The Invisible Chains - Part 2 Bonds of Fear (Dark Tales of Randamor the Recluse, #2) by Andrew Ashling
The Invisible Chains - Part 2: Bonds of Fear

The story is a pseudo-historical fantasy with gay protagonists (which doesn't mean that everybody and his uncle is gay). There is fighting, a lot of political and dynastic intrigue, mingled with romance, often of the explicit kind.

Readers of m/m-romances seem to like them, but I was wondering whether 'teh big bad gay' was preventing readers of (pseudo)historical fiction to try them out.

Ah, well...

You'll find more details on the book pages.
