Sligo McKluge (sligo_mckluge) | 409 comments Currently there are four free public domain books on this page. Watch out for the 99-cent ones at the bottom.

Here are three more from another publisher, including one I haven't seen before, "The Diary of a U-boat Commander".

Here are a few more:

Aesop's Fables

The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran

The Complete Harvard Classics and Shelf of Fiction - over 40,000 pages. Large download, and text is poorly formatted.

Sligo McKluge (sligo_mckluge) | 409 comments 33 free classic books and collections, sorted by price. When you get to the third page, you'll start to see the 99-cent ones.

Another set of 10 novels and author collections. Nothing unusual here, but they did a decent job making attractive covers on many of these. The set of 33 above also have some handsome book covers that will look good in your ebook library.

Two more from another publisher:

The Complete Works of Thomas Hardy (Illustrated)
The Complete Works of Rudyard Kipling (Illustrated)

As always, the price is likely to increase on all of these very soon.

Released today or yesterday; download for free today but not for long. You've probably seen these before, but sometimes it's nice to download new versions of public domain titles if the publisher put a nice cover on it.

The Five Rings: Miyamoto Musashi's Art of Strategy

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

10 Masterpieces You Have to Read Before You Die

Think and Grow Rich: The Original 1937 Unedited Edition by Napoleon Hill

Books from academic publishers can be dry and boring, but some of us enjoy this material. There are hundreds available for free. Here are a few recent ones.

The first one has a title that meant nothing to me; often you have to read the description to know what it's about. Some readers might enjoy all the old photos in the second one, even if turned off by the academic style of writing.

Qualitative Freedom - Autonomy in Cosmopolitan Responsibility by Claus Dierksmeier

In the light of growing political and religious fundamentalism, this open access book defends the idea of freedom as paramount for the attempt to find common ethical ground in the age of globality. The book sets out to examine as yet unexhausted ways to boost the resilience of the principle of liberalism. Critically reviewing the last 200 years of the philosophy of freedom, it revises the principle of liberty in order to revive it. It discusses many different aspects that fall under its three main topics: the metaphysics of freedom, quantitative freedom and qualitative freedom.

The Divo and the Duce: Promoting Film Stardom and Political Leadership in 1920s America (Cinema Cultures in Contact Book 1) by Giorgio Bertellini

In the post–World War I American climate of isolationism, nativism, democratic expansion of civic rights, and consumerism, Italian-born star Rodolfo Valentino and Italy’s dictator Benito Mussolini became surprising paragons of authoritarian male power and mass appeal. Drawing on extensive archival research in the United States and Italy, Giorgio Bertellini’s work shows how their popularity, both political and erotic, largely depended on the efforts of public opinion managers, including publicists, journalists, and even ambassadors. Beyond the democratic celebrations of the Jazz Age, the promotion of their charismatic masculinity through spectacle and press coverage inaugurated the now-familiar convergence of popular celebrity and political authority.

Men's Experiences of Violence in Intimate Relationships (Palgrave Studies in Victims and Victimology) by Marianne Inéz Lien (Author) & Jørgen Lorentzen

This open access book draws on a broad study on violence against men, from both male and female partners in Norway, to contribute to the research on intimate partner violence. It identifies similarities in men's experiences and backgrounds, including in their perceptions of their own victimisation. Marianne Inez Lien and Jørgen Lorentzen argue that the traditional gender power model should be modified and supplemented, and propose that we consider violence in terms of psychological supremacy, rather than in terms of femininity and masculinity.
