Ez (ezrah-rah) | 6 comments Hi! I noticed that someone recently added this book to the library again with a different release date than the original. There's only one version of this book, so I tried to delete it at the request of the author. The rules said I should be able to do it if there were less than five reviews, and there is only one rating, but when I tried to delete the book it said I would need a "super-librarian" to delete a book with "so many reviews."

Can someone please delete this for me?

Thank you!

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Harper, it looks like that edition has a new ISBN assigned by B&N for their nookbook/ebook edition; since it has a new ISBN it counts as a new edition as we usually track these things.

(You can only delete editions of books if they'll merge into an existing edition -- you can't delete the only edition of a book. It gets the same message as the needs-superlibrarian situation because it doesn't happen very often.)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Well, I've combined that edition with the other editions of the book so that they all show up together.

...Actually, wait, the edition seems to have disappeared. It looks like someone deleted it after I combined it (so that it merged into the other editions of the book), but my searching for it re-imported it from B&N. That, by the way, is an accidental but useful example of why it's no good to delete a book which was imported from a feeder site! If the book has a current record on B&N or any Amazon, it'll show back up on GR sooner or later. Anyway, I've combined it again. Hopefully the people who had it shelved originally won't be too upset to be moved over onto the other ebook edition....

A librarian deleted it. (Side note to all librarians, please do NOT delete books with valid ISBNs, even if someone has requested that you do so!)

I re-imported it and it is combined with the other editions, but three people's reviews/shelvings were moved over to another edition, which they may not appreciate.

Some other clarifications:

* for purposes of deletability, all shelvings (rating/review/to-read/etc.) count as "reviews"
* a book that is uncombined with other editions will not allow anyone but a superlibrarian to delete it if it has even ONE "review" -- this prevents loss of users' reviews

Books are not deleted just because they are no longer for sale.
