WEEK 4 (APRIL 11-18) SOMETHING NEW!

I have chosen the book Potsdam Station.
I think school uniforms would be a dumb idea because all through my school career, teachers say be yourself. If we had uniforms we'd all look the same and we wouldn't be ourselves any more. I also think they would be bad because people would find ways not to wear them or change the appearance of them. It would change our school by making people more mad and the students just wouldn't wear them.

I'm currently reading Rebels at the Gate: Lee and McClellan on the front lines of a Nation Divied. I'm at the part where they are having a battle at Beverly. The main characters are Robert E. Lee of the Confederate Army and McClellan of the Union Army. McClellan is the favorite because he's against slavery but Robert E. Lee is for slavery in the south but the Union Army has other plans for the southern states and Virgina is divided between the North and the South.
Weekly Activity
I picked Potsdam Station and hopefully I will win it because it's the only good book on the list.
Weekly Discussion
I think if we go to school uniforms the school will be dead in the water because no one will actually wear the uniforms because through are years of school our teachers tell us to be ourselves and not be the same as other students. The school uniforms are a bad because no one would be themselves. It would change our school by a long shot and the all the students would not wear them so the school would be dead in the water.

I am reading the book Twilight. It is about a girl named Bella who suddenly decides to go and live with her father in Grand Forks, where she starts school. Bella is pale, she doesn't seem to fit in and has a hard time finding friends right off the bat. Bella is also very quiet.
Weedly Activity-
The Corruptible, seems like an interesting book.
Weekly Discussion-
I don't think it's a good idea if our school made the choice to get uniforms. I feel that everyone has a right to wear what they want as long as it is meeting the guidelines. Uniforms would be bad, because noone would agree to wearing them. It'd change SRRHS for the worst, taking away more of our freedom would just cause problems.

I just started reading this book so I do not really no any of the details yet, but the back of the book sounded really good!
I entered the book Insight
I feel that school uniforms would be okay. I mean I wouldn't have to sit and think about what I'm going to were the next day and somebody cant tell you that you don't look good because they look the same as you do!!!!

I entered the book I'm not her.
I feel uniforms would be both a good and bad thing. I wouldn't enjoy having uniforms, but I think it would make it easier to patrol what people are wearing and make sure it's appropriate. I woudn't mind a mild school uniform, like them telling us what we have to wear. But I wouldn't like set uniforms that are the same for everyone every day.

I entered the book these hidden things.
I feel that uniforms could be a bad thing because it doesn't give kids the freedom to express themselfs. And it would be really bad if you had to wear the same type of uniforms because it would get really boring. And kids would try to rebell.

I entered the book These Hidden Things.
I don't want to get uniforms. I think it would be a bad thing to do. Kids won't follow the rules anyway. Everyone would look the same and it would get boring.

I entered the book Hitman.
I don't want uniforms because they are stupid. I think it would be a stupid thing to do. No one would follow the rules. Everyone would look the same and then they couldn't express themselves.
Week 4's points? CHECK.

I entered the book Hitman!
I would hate uniforms.

I entered the book Potsdam Station.
I think if our school went to uniforms it would be good and bad. It would be good because people wouldnt have to worry about what they looked like and could just focus on learning. Also they would not have to worry about students wearing inapproperiate clothing. I think It would be bad because I don't think students would wear them and they would really make the school look boring.

I am reading Goth Girl Rising. It is about a girl who gets send away to a mental hospital because her dad got a phone call for someone saying that she had a bullet. She comes back 6 months later and everything has changed.
Weekly Activity
I entered the book Dont Breath a Word.
Weekly Discussion
I think that having uniforms would be both good and bad. Good because that we dont have to worry about how they looked. I think it bad because I dont think students want to come to school everyday wear the samething.

i chose the book progency
school uniforms are a bad idea they look bad they take away the right of choice and they make people look stupid. Most students would never wear them at srrhs and it would make students resent teachers and not listen

I tried to enter for Soft Apocalypse.
I feel school uniforms would not allow one to express individuality. I wouldn't enjoy having one. SRRHS would look formal with them, but people probably would try not to wear them, defeating the purpose.

I entered to win the book what happend to goodbyes.
I don't want school uniforms. And I don't think anyone wants them. We should be able to wear what we want. They would be bad because no one can wear what they want. I don't know how it would change our school, but it would.

I entered to win Becoming Sage
I would not like the school uniforms. I think a lot of people would move to a different school. I also think that people would stop being picked on for what they wear.

I just finished the book Ransom by Danielle Steel, and haven't started my new book yet. Ransom was about a woman named Sarah whose husband died after gaining a lot of money. A group of criminals, the mane one being a man named Quinn, decided to take Sarah's son named Sam hostage. They did this so that she would pay a ransom. In the end a detective named Rick helped Sarah get her son back.

DISCUSSION:
I don't really see a point in enforcing uniforms at SRRHS. I think the main change that it would make would be to make students unhappy and a lot less eager to come to school. I feel that the way you dress is a way to express yourself and your personality. I understand the concept of uniforms.. to eliminate bullying for the things kids wear. However, i have gone to a school that enforced uniforms and there were still kids getting bullied. You can typically still tell which uniforms are nicer than others. I think that it would be pointless.

I am reading the book soul surfer for our non fiction book. The main charater is Bethany Hamilton, she is a young girl who is very religious and loves and dreams about becoming a pro surfer. right now she is talking about how she found the strenght to get through what had happened to her and how much of a struggle it was for her to be able to surf again. she talks about how her religion advisor and parents (mostly dad) wouldnt give up on her and helped her keep going and be able to surf as well as before.
I entered to read a book by rebecca talley!
I dont think we should get school uniforms because we are a public school and the way we dress right now doesnt have any effect on our learning because we are more comfortable the way we dress ourselves. I think that there are days people just dont want to get dressed so they wear sweat shirts or sweat pants and by making us wear uniforms i think it would make us a lot more angrier and rebel. i also think for the people who arent very comfortable with their bodies ( since we are still kids) could possible cause eatting disorders because they are not happy with what they look like in their school uniforms and are constantly trying to change it! i alos think letting us dress the way we want helps us to express our creativity and our own uniqueness which is also a learning component:)!

I am currently reading Evercrossed (A Kissed By An Angel) novel... and it is about a girl who is going through the loss of the guy she loved (Tristan) and is still trying to get over his death... She meets someone else who she begins to fall in love with and who reminds her a lot of Tristan. The main characters name is Ivy and she faces many challenges in the book.

I entered to win the book "Angel Burn"
Weekly Discussion:
I would rather NOT have uniforms because its nice to be able to wear the clothing that you want as long as it isnt inappropriate.. it would deffinately effect our school in a huge way.. i honestly think that people would transfer schools just because of it and the kids would probably start a petition
