Donna (ljldml) | 8 comments from the inside flap of the hardcover:

"For centuries mystical creatures of all description were gathered into a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite.
Kendra and her brother, Seth, have no idea that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven. Inside the gated woods, ancient laws keep relative order among greedy trolls, mischievous satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies. However, when the rules get broken--Seth is a bit too curious and reckless for his own good--- powerful forces of evil are unleashed, and Kendra and her brother face the greatest challenge of their lives. To save their family, Fablehaven, and perhaps even the world, Kendra and Seth must find the courage to do what they fear the most."

FYI- this book is available as a paperback.

You could probably find it on ebook or at the library too. I'm going to look it up myself. :)
Happy you won? :)

Donna (ljldml) | 8 comments Yes! This book is available as an ebook.

This book is a very quick read. It's full of wild creatures and characters. I'll review the book and come up with some discussion ideas. This book is the first of a 5 part series.

Donna (ljldml) | 8 comments Just for fun,
check out http://www.fablehaven.com

Some questions to ponder while reading:

1. Fablehaven exists to help protect and conserve vanishing magical species. Is this worthwhile? Why do you think Grandpa Sorenson wants to protect the dangerous creatures?

2. There is a promise at the front of the book that none who enter Fablehaven will leave unchanged. How do their experiences at Fablehaven change Seth and Kendra?

3. How would you react to being shown this incredible world?

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 375 comments I've read the first 3 books of the series and have the 4th on my TBR list. I found them to be enjoyable, fun and fast reads and I really like how the characters develop the further you go in the series.

He has a new series? Oh, no, more books to add to my must-read list!

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Finished Fablehaven. It was an enjoyable read! Very fast especially since I wanted to know what would happen next. All the creatures of fable were charming, including the dark ones, so I can easily see why people choose to create a haven for them all. I'm not so sure Seth will survive the normal world much less being 10 in a magical one. My favorite creatures are the fairies. Hmmmmmm, I REALLY have a craving for some milk! I think I have Ovaltine......
