I enjoyed this book because it set a new meaning to the word dwarf. Heitz did a wonderful job. Cant wait till the second one comes in from the library. :P

I also love this series, just need to get round to reading the 4th and final one! I agree, sometimes it can be a little slow to get going, especially with the third one but the description is so vivid and the battles so intense, you can't help but be drawn into the world the author creates. It is obvious the author, Markus Heitz, is very passionate about the dwarves. There is a book series solely about Orcs too, can't remember the author, but they are worth checking out as it puts the orcs as the good guys going against the evil, magic obsessed humans. Think the title is just 'orcs' - highly recommend if you enjoyed dwarves.
The 'Orcs' books are by Stan Nicholls, I think.I also loved this series, although I haven't read the fourth one yet. Dwarves are my favourite fantasy race (after orcs) and I think that they're often pushed into the background, so it was awesome for them to be the heroes of their own book.
Does anyone know of any other books like this?
I absolutely love these books. I've read it translated to dutch and as far as i know that works out pretty good. There were certain points in this book where i was so frustrated and sad, not because of poor writing, but because i was so into the story. There are a few things in the story that could've been better, but that really never bothered me.After these series i began reading 'Die legenden der Albae' (legends of the alfs). As far as i know these aren't available yet in english. I've read the first book, there are three of them. Here you read about the Alfs outside the safe land and learn what majestic but cruel creatures they are. Main characters are Caphalor and Sinthoras, who also appear in the Dwarves!
