oh no it's not like that the people that are in my college don't like this book, they think its boring"
Personally, I liked the book, but I read it when I was like 9. Which is about the age most people read it. So, if you're talking about a Elementery school level book, it probably is a very boring to someone in college. For instance, I haven't read the book in well over five years, so, if I ever read it again, I will almost certainly find it less interesting, than when I was younger.

Nothing happened in this book. It was extremely slow, with events that seemingly don't link together. I also couldn't stand that vast numbers of one-word sentences. Mistakes. Stupid. Food. Mistakes. ETC.
It's not because there was no romance. I read this and I didn't like it because it moved really slow and it seemed like whenever something exctiting was going to happen (like the black bear thing) it just came out boring. And when something exciting did happen (the big storm) it seemed like GP made it a big drag. And the way he was rescued was really lame, I thought. Plus there was really only one main character. It's hard to make a book interesting when there's only one character. If he found a fellow survivor I wouldn't have finished the book, it would've been ridiculous. That's my opinion. I have one and so does everyone else so don't be rude (please).
The thing I didn't like was the repetitiveness. Like, in one chapter it would just say mistakes over and over-as its own sentence.
I did not enjoy this book because the writing was atrocious! The editor failed to do their job and the book was very monotonous and repetitive. For a book that did not fill many pages, it seemed the author re-worded the same phrase over and over to fill paragraphs. I guess when you're thirteen and alone in the wilderness, you tend to repeat thoughts so I guess it fits. I can imagine though that if I had read this when I was in grade school, I may have enjoyed it.Now, that is my own opinion and you should read it for yourself as it is a very popular read.

Its a interesting thought but why does a book need romance? If its your thing then whatever but I think its alright for a book to not have romance just like it doesn't need high school heartache. If its just added to keep a reader there and not because it was for the good of the story, the book becomes uninteresting for me.
But thats just me. ^^
Now that I think about it, if it had romance I wouldn't have cared about it when I was in the 3rd grade. haha!
I have read the book several times to my third graders and they and I loved it! It does seem slow in the beginning but my students really enjoyed listening to the problems Brian faced and how he solved them.
Gary Paulsen has lived the adventures he wrote about. He is the consummate outdoorsman and survivalist. I really liked it. One son-- the one who sticks to sidewalks and LOVED Ender's Game-- didn't like it. The other son-- who loves camping and Hardy Drew Mysteries loved it. I just thought that all of the discussion about the divorcing/cheating parents was kind of distracting and pointless. My son who loved it said that was what he didn't like, either. Otherwise, I thought it was good. That said, we all liked Brian's Winter better.
I found it was an enjoyable book, but some plot points felt useless, like when he acquired the .22lr rifle from the plane he never used it, some elements of when he got it was good, like when he falsely called the magazine a clip due to a lack of knowledge (although it could have been clip-fed, I find that hard to believe) but i think he should have had an encounter with another hostile animal of some kind, but struggle to hit it as the sight would not have been zeroed properly, leading to panic before luckily striking the animal. But that may not have been needed in the story, I do think that he should have used his gun at some point before being rescued.
