Michael Lee | 6 comments Has anyone else done this?

I recently made one using Windows Movie Maker. It's VERY basic. Just Royalty Free Images (plus my book cover) and Royalty Free Music.

Has anyone done anything more complex? I didn't even make an edit. I just put one image in front of the next. Or has anyone used any services to make a trailer for them? If so what were the results?

I just watched your book trailer and I think you did a good job. I know there are people out there who get paid to make book trailers (I read one of Amanda Hockings Blogs and she talked about someone who offered to do her book trailer for her). If you really want to have someone with more experience make your book trailer, you should go to youtube and look up a few books trailers, pick the one you like the best, and send that person an e-mail. Maybe you can gift a copy of your book in exchange for their services :)

Michael Lee | 6 comments Good idea Jeanine. Although the person who posted the trailer might not be the producer. It could be the author or even just a fan of the book.

But it never hurts to ask.

True, but they may have information about the producer. You could always visit the websites of your favorite authors and see who made their book trailers. I'd go with favorite indie authors for sure. They almost always have their book trailers on their web sites :)

Michael Lee | 6 comments Got any particular favorite authors or book trailers?

Jeanine (truejourney) | 315 comments For Indies? You could try Amanda Hocking, Zoe Winters, Stacy Wallace Benefiel, Imogen Rose, J.L. Bryan... there are plenty more but these are the first to come to mind.

Erika (erikamiller) | 74 comments Yes, i use a program sony vegas studio which can be complex at first. You can edit your own footage and add effects and traditions. You can use trials on the sony vegas studio site. Hope that helped :)

Jan (janoda) I quite like MCM's booktrailers, they are cool.

In the non-indie verse I really liked the latest one by Tessa Dare - simple execution, but lovely idea.

Not everything needs to be fancy :)

Michael Lee | 6 comments The Tessa Dare one is simply brilliant!

What do other readers think of trailers? Have you ever bought a book because of the trailer?

I have never bought a book because of a trailer. However, I do enjoy watching book trailers for up and coming releases by my favorite authors. I guess book trailers are something of an added treat for the die-hard fans :)

message 14: by Jan (new)

Jan (janoda) I don't think they've ever caused me to buy a book, but there's definitely been a few that caused me to check out what the book was about. They've also made me put them higher on the TBR list, which is fairly big at times, so moving up is a good thing.

I think the blurb, samples and reviews are more important, but I think a trailer can be very useful to make people check those out.

C.J. Archer (cjarcher) | 49 comments So it's more of an additional tool, not a tool on its own. Thanks for explaining your view, Jan.

I just checked it out. It was pretty good.

Cody Young | 1 comments Yes, I have made a trailer. I was a bit ambitious and I wanted movie-style footage. I found some film school and drama school people and made the trailer in one day. The result wasn't perfect but we all enjoyed making it and it has now had over a thousand views on youtube. Not sure how many books it sells - it's hard to know!
