MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments ...how to load a book onto her Kobo from Calibre.

She's stuck at the "how to see both the file she keeps her books in and the program Calibre at the same time" phase. I'm trying to walk her through shrinking her windows but it's not working.

She has the books. She has Calibre. She has a folder on her desktop that she keeps her library in. She is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!

If you hear any thunking, that's my head banging against a brick wall.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmm... I don't have a Kobo, but with the Nook, I just plug it into the USB, wait for Calibre to recognize the device, and then select the books and click "Send to Device".

Any that are already on there should have a green checkmark next to it.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments We haven't gotten to that part yet. She can't see both windows at the same time...I'm explaining that.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'm not sure what you mean by both windows... The only window that is necessary is Calibre. It creates a folder for the ebooks to be saved on the hard drive or wherever she told it to save them to, but that doesn't need to be open to do anything.

As long as she has Calibre open, she should be able to see the ebooks that she's added to her Calibre library (or is that what she's trying to do?) - and then from Calibre, she just selects the books and clicks send to device.

If she is trying to add books to her Calibre library, then when she clicks the "add" in the top left corner, it should open a window so that she can search her files for wherever she has the ebooks stored.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments LOL! You sound like I sounded. I mean windows as in MS Windows. She has the folder with her books and she has Calibre. Her folder with her books is too large for her to physically see Calibre and I can't quite get her to understand how to shrink the window.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) OH jeez. How far away is your mom? Is it worth your sanity to make the trip to her house? LOL

Steve Thomas | 102 comments Nothing beats a written procedure. Email her something detailed, with screenshots and everything. That way she'll be able to do it herself without calling you.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments 3 1/2 hours...3 if I speed.

I wish I could just jump in the car and drive down there. I've asked her to ask my sister in law who was there yesterday but she didn't. I spent about half an hour dealing with this before I was just too tired to continue. Now mom is in the bed but I have to do it all over again tomorrow. *thunk*

She won't wait cause she wants to read her book NOW. And when I was there last and setting everything up for her, shee refused to watch what I was doing because she likes to DRIVE ME FREAKING INSANE.

*sigh* *thunk*

You know, that is a great idea! I should do that tomorrow before she calls me and I lose what's left of my brain.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Luckily, my mom is in IT, so I don't have those issues.

Good luck with the documentation effort, MrsJ! May your sanity remain intact! ;)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Thanks, Becky. I hope it remains intact, too.

BTW, I'm jealous that your mom is in IT. It must be bliss.

message 12: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Not so much... LOL The last time she took my computer to fix it, she had it for 11 1/2 months. O_O

message 13: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Still sane there MrsJ? ;)

message 14: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Yeah, here & sane. Mom has been busy today (I guess she's feeling bad cause she called me and yelled at me for not calling her back ASAP yesterday. She forgot I had things to do after work) and I haven't had to speak to her! Yaaaaay!

message 15: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) LOL Poor mom... she's just confused! ;)

message 16: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments LOL, and now so am I. She confuses me all the time - it's good for her to understand how it feels... :-)
