Increasing your reading challenge?

I'll be shocked if I reach 100. LOL As you may have noticed, I actually lowered my goal to take the pressure off myself. If I hit that new goal (50) I will raise it incrementally and see how it goes. I did a lot of reading this weekend, and if that pattern continues I guess it could happen.
I joined another group here on GR and they are like drug pushers (but instead books are being pushed). Every time I look up it seems I'm less well-read than I was the day before and they are encouraging me to read another new author/book/series that I've never read before. :-)Add that to Borders going out of business right down the block from me (I've spent at least $120 in the last month there) and my books are getting out of control! (Like it was ever in control to start with) Then fictionwise keeps having sales and I never realized how good the Dresden Files were (just got to Fool Moon) and...well...let’s just say my husband had to drag me out this Saturday, lol.

LOL I had to stop looking at anything other than free books. I've got taxes due in a couple of weeks and I've already invested some money in my home studio in the last couple of months. I still need a few new cables.
Fortunately I already have enough books to get me through this challenge and the next several challenges, but that doesn't stop me from wanting every interesting book I see. Let me know when you start Dresden Files #3 - that's coming up on my list. You'll probably read it faster than me but reading it at the same time might help keep me motivated. :)

I have about 84 books in my TBR "owned" list, lol. I'm starting to think I'm a horder. I'll certianly let you know when I start! It shouldn't be too long from now, I just have to get over my annoyance with Harry as to how he treats Murphy's trust.
I'm ahead of schedule (reading book 37 now) but GR hasn't prompted me to increase my goal. I know that from September I won't be reading as fast as I am now since the busiest time of the year in our store is from September until the end of December. Also Stephen King is releasing a long novel in October or November which will take me 1-2 weeks to get through. If I get close to 100 books well before September I will increase my goal, otherwise I won't.

After I reach 100, I plan to increase on a month by month basis, with the hope to read a book a day, or eve..."I would agree with you - but then I'd have to call myself crazy, too! LOL. I stopped counting all the ebooks I'd purchased before I started using GR. I have no clue as to how many I own, let alone that are unread. I just flip through folders till I find one that looks interesting (if I'm not in the middle of a group read).
What's worse is that I never stop purchasing...not for a minute. I have refused to buy any ebooks from the Agency6 group, so those are now DTB for me. I hate taking up all the additional room with DTBs but I am just NOT paying full price for that muffler. Agency6 pubs a lot of my favorite authors/genres - so I figure I'll buy and then my 1st sale doctrine can kick in if the book sucks.
I just love reading about all you "addicted to buying books" people. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who is like this!
I keep crossing my fingers that Amazon won't stop giving away free books, as I seem to be downloading every last one of them.
I got a lot of free books during ebook week...and man were most of them horrible. I had to slow down on the free books, lol.
Since I just realized that I'm already at 96 books, I think I'm going to increase my challenge by 30 books or so. One of my other groups is doing a reading challenge (I think I'll post it here) and that is another 11 books for this month alone. Not sure if I'll finish all 11 within the month but I'm going to try.
So I just increased my books from 100 to 150.They (GR) told me I was still 22 books ahead of schedule, lol!
I usually read an average of 140 books per year, so i had my gr challenge at 150, but i ditched the challenge as i have been reading much less. I have almost started to get back into my usual reading lately, but still not as much as i used to.I haven't even caught up on my challenge posts. It will take me forever when i finally do it.
I've always read a lot but never challenged myself. I set the challenge at 100 to see if I could do it. I'm 22 books ahead right now but I think I'll finish reading the 100 before I increase the challenge.

^^ Hopefully! Since I have read less, it shouldn't take me long. I am done my work for the day (almost), maybe I should just do it now. Congrats on the 100!!!
Thanks :-) This is the first time I've ever counted how many books I read in 1 year. It's rather interesting, actually.
I've read some good books and some horrible books, lol.All in all it's been a good book year for me!
I reached my goal as well, still going, upped challenge to 130. Knitting for Christmas presents really cuts into my reading time, lol.
I wish I could make christmas presents but I never learned how to sit still and focus when mom was teaching knitting. :-)

When I hit this mark Goodreads began to prompt me to increase my challenge number. Does anyone else have this concern? What are you going to do if you reach 100 prior to the end of 2011?
