Ingrid There are so many good quotes from this musical. So many! Surely we all have some that just stick in our minds.

hehee. i made a quotes page once for this, but i think i lost it :)

"One day more!!!!!"

"Jean Valjean is nothing now, another story must begin!"

"I dreamed a dream of times gone by..."

"i am reaching, but i fall. and the night is closing in. as i stare into the void, to the whirlpool of my sin"

"he gave me my life, he called me brother... can such things be?"

" 24601!!!!

"students, worker, everyone! theres a river on the run! like the flowing of a tide, Paris coming to our side!"

"this i swear to you tonight
-there is no place for you to hide
-your child will live within my care
-wherever you hide away
-and i will raise her to the light
[both] i swear to you, i will be there"

just a few i thought of for now... :)

message 3: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid "These are my people, this my patch. Nothing to like at nothing posh. Nothing that you'd call up to scratch."

"Let others rise and take our place, until... the earth is FREE!"

"In my life
I'm no longer a child and I yearn
For the truth that you know
Of the years... years ago!"

"They will live again in freedom in the garden of the Lord. They will walk behind the plowshare, they will put away the sword."

"tomorrow is the judgment day, tomorrow we'll discover what our God in heaven has in store. one more dawn! one more day! one day more!!!!!!"

"it is the music of the people who are rising to the light"

"fink your poor. fink your free. follow me! follow me!"

"look down, and show, some mercy if you can. look down, look down, upon your fellow man."

"is there anyone here who can swear before God they have nothing to fear, they have nothing to hide?!"

message 5: by Siareen (new)

"for the wretched of the earth, there is a flame that never dies. even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise!"

message 6: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Yes! All of those are wonderful.

"And must I now begin to doubt, who never doubted all these years? My heart is stone and still it trembles."

"Take an eye for an eye!
Turn your heart into stone!
This is all I have lived for!
This is all I have known!"

"He told me that I have a soul,
How does he know?

all the quotes are wonderful. period. the hard part is choosing which of them to put...

oh, i remember another thing. at some point in my life i was a complete harry potter addict.
and a few years ago i was a quotations addict. i used to go around quoting lines from movies and books, and people would look at me strangely ;D

message 8: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I love quoting things. It is especially great if people understand the quote and quote something from the same thing.

for some reason i thought i was posting on the rehab group!!!!! lol

but it kinda fits in anyways... :)

definitely.
esspecially if they join in with you. once my friend and i did a scene from lotr, with the words and the movements by memory. then someone walked in on us and we burst out laughing :)

message 10: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I love it when that happens. It doesn't happen often, but when it does... It is wonderful. Or when you are with a group of people you don't know very well and are trying to decide to become friends. Quote something and the person who recognizes and quotes back is immediately a good person.

message 11: by Siareen (new)

lol, i know the feeling.

ok, more quotes i thought of [i was listening to les mis all day because of this :) ]

"and the righteous hurry past, and they dont hear the little ones crying. and the winter is coming on fast, ready to kill"

"red, the blood of angry men! Black, the dark of ages past! Red, a world about to dawn. Black, the night that ends at last!"

message 12: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Yes! I love both of those.

`Honest work, just reward,
That's the way to please the Lord.'

In His name my task has just begun
I will see it done!

Hurry near, another day is dying
Don't you hear, the winter wind is crying?
There's a darkness which comes without a warning
But I will sing you lullabies and wake you in the morning.

"you at the barricades listen to this! no one is coming to help you fight! your all alone! you have no friends! give up your guns or die!"

"now we pledge ourselves to hold this barricade!"

"damn their warnings damn their lies! they will see the people rise!!!!"

"the law is inside out! the world is upside down!"

"and does he know... that by granting me my life, this man has killed me... even so"

"theres a child who sorely needs me, please missure shes but that high! holy God is there no mercy!? if i go to jail she'll die!"

message 14: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid "you at the barricades listen to this! no one is coming to help you fight! your all alone! you have no friends! give up your guns or die!"
I love that line, it makes me laugh for some reason.

i love it, but it doesnt make me laugh...
the end of Javerts suicide makes me shiver though...

"for your presence of heart, for the deed you have done, we will thank you missure when the battle is won"- ok, not the best quote, but i love the tune that goes with those lines :)

message 16: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I love the tune as well. Okay, I just love that whole part :D Oh, Javert's Suicide. Definitely one of my absolute favorite songs in the whole musical.

"A flea can bite the bottom of the pope in Rome!"

"I am reaching, but I fall. And the stars are dark and cold, as I stare into the void of a world that can not hold."

message 17: by Siareen (new)

Siareen | 86 comments Mod
wheres the flea on from?

"there is power in me yet, my race is not yet won! i am waring you JAVERT, there is nothing i wont do! if i have to kill you now and do what must be done!"

message 18: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid The song Little People. You see, Gavroche had a whole long, awesome possum song, but they cut it. :( You should listen to it, it is amazing.

"You know nothing of JAVERT! I was born inside a jail. I was born with scum like you. I am from the gutter too."

i think i know the cut version. can you post the link of the long one? :)

"look down, look down, you'll always be a slave. look down, look down, your standing in your grave"

"freedom is mine."

"i know the meaning of those nineteen years a slave of the law!"

message 20: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I love all of those so much. Alright.

"one more day to revolution. we will nip it in the bud! i will join these little school boys. they will wet themselves with blood!"

"my place is here. i fight with you!"

"one day to a new beggining, raise the flag of freedom hight! [every man will be a king] every man will be a king! theres a new world for the winning, theres a new world to be won. do you hear the people sing!

message 22: by Juli (new)

Juli | 44 comments I love all these quotes, but was upset to notice a lack of anything from my personal favorite song, and so:

"Without me, his world will go on turning- a world that's full of happiness that I have never known!"

Sorry, felt the need to post that, the most difficult line of that song for me to sing because there's not really a lot of breathing space before that. Try it and see

Azelma (Ponine) | 7 comments I like these quotes:
Only a kid but hard to scare.
Who is this man what sort of devil is he?
A little fall of rain can hardly hurt me now.

There are so MANY good quotes in Les Mis'. The one that devastates me, is "You would live a hundred years, if I could show you how. I won't desert you now!" -- absolutely. breaks. my. heart.

message 26: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 2 comments just randomly found this group on here so i thought i'd put my two sense in!
not sure if you've got this one already but, my absolute favorite....
"to love another person is to see the face of God"

message 27: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid So many of these quotes are from the ending of Les Mis! I was just listening to the first act, and was reminded of how much I adore Valjean's Soliloquy (What Have I Done?) And the last line of Who Am I is possibly one of my favorite parts of the whole first act.

"Who am I? I'm 2460 ONNNNNEEEEEEEE" The last note gives me chills.

Siareen | 86 comments Mod
Can I just say that basically the whole musical is good quotes? You can quote just about any line from it. Great stuff :)

message 29: by Elle (new)

Elle (perdufleur) "Every word that he says is a dagger in me!"
"He was never mine to lose, why regret what could not be?"
"If he asked, I'd be his."
"I LOVE HIM, I LOVE HIM, I LOVE HIM, BUT ONLY ON MY OWN."

Broke my heart.

message 30: by Nat (new)

Nat (long4adventure) "Red;i feel my soul on fire.
Black;my world if she's not there."

and one of my favorite's:
"In the rain, the pavement shines like silver..."
i like this tune
"So what shall we do with a snake in the grass?"
last one
"Who am I? Can I condemn this man to slavery, pretend I do not see his agony"

The entire musical is beautiful!!!

message 35: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandaruth19) "There was a time we killed the king. We tried to change the world to fast. Now we have got another king. He's no better than the last. This is the land that fought for liberty, now when we fight, we fight for bread. Here is the thing about equality: everyone's equal when they're dead."

message 36: by Heiko (new)

Heiko | 5 comments Grantaire's solo in Drink with Me
Drink with me to days gone by
Can it be you fear to die?
Will the world remember you
When you fall?
Could it be your death
Means nothing at all?
Is your life just one more lie?

message 37: by C (new)

C (fightingfromafar) I love that one too. "Drink with me" is probably the saddest song of them all.

Another sad quote (but the sad ones are good):

"This rain will wash away what's past
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
I'll sleep in your embrace at last."

That was beautiful. I love "A Little Fall of Rain"

message 39: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandaruth19) I really like:

"There's so little I know that I'm longing to know
Of the man that you were in time long ago
There's so little you say of the life you have known
Why you keep to yourself, why you're always alone
So dark, so dark and deep, the secrets that you keep."

And:

"God on high,
Hear my prayer,
In my need,
You have always been there."

Now we journey on through the night'

Abu Islam | 1 comments One quote that always stays with me is: “Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.”
It reminds me of the message in Surah Yaseen — that after hardship and despair, Allah brings light, mercy, and renewal. Both teach us to hold on to faith and hope, no matter how dark things seem. Visit here https://suraheyaseen.com/

Hafiz Muneer | 1 comments Just like memorable lines from a musical stay with us and inspire reflection, reading Surah Yasin from https://surahayasin.com
leaves a lasting impact on the heart and mind, reminding us of faith, guidance, and the lessons of life.
