Tara Woolpy | 21 comments There are much better Holocaust novels out there. Try A Blessing on the Moon, it's lyrical, beautiful and respectful.

I read up to page 46. I'm going to be unable to finish the rest because I borrowed it from the library and I can't renew it because somebody put it on hold.

Jill (jillylilly) Well I finished the book and then watched the movie. What a disappointment! Even though the book was arduous to read, the movie didn't even touch on the family history in all generations, which to me was the whole theme of the book. The movie really only touch the last several pages of the book. But then, this is a book club not a movie review.

Haha ya I saw the first few minutes of the movie, realized where it was headed and didn't finish. It's great if you just want to watch it aside and not think about the book at all, but if you're watching for similarities it's never really good to watch the movie :)

Jill (jillylilly) Yep, I'm with you...I am always careful to look for the "BASED on a book by......" in the movie title, because that usually means "it's nothing like the book".. :) My husband raved about it, but again, not a book reader!! When I told him the story in the book, he said, Wow the movie was nothing like the book"....hahahahaha..non-readers!!

Oh non-readers. Gotta love them!

Bonnie I am picking up the book at the library tomorrow so will be beginning it rather late. Had to wait until it came back... After reading some of the posts I'm excited to get started!

AnaΣtaΣia | 1584 comments Yeyyy!! Phewww, I finally finished that! OK that is my review on this book:
Well, this has been one of the few books I almost didn't get to finish, but I did. I don't know really how to feel because if this was a stupid (pardon my french) book, I would just say so and that would be it for me. But it was not a stupid book, it was partly humorous, partly boring(sometimes it went so blah, blah, blah, I almost never opened it again and this was not because I didn't get what J.S. Foer wanted to say, it was because I did), partly vulgar and times (but only a few, believe me) where you though that this vulgarity has a reason of existence in here....
Anyway, I'll give it 2 stars because it had its good moments(even if rare) but in my point of view as the ratings on the stars show, it was merely OK.

Gorfo I think that reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close also by Jonathan Safran Foer my expectations for his writing was ridiculously high. For me this book just didn't click in the same way that Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close did. Reading this was a challenge because I didn't ever feel like picking it up...however once I did pick it up I sometimes found I couldn't put it down. It was vulgar, confusing, hard to understand, but also sidesplitting funny and I feel that as we read somehow along the way the story unfolded and Alex our little narrator grew up
