Louise I've unfortunately discovered Bloomsbury's hardback classics, so I got these:
Angel, All Innocence, And Other Stories by Fay Weldon Trying to Save Piggy Sneed (Bloomsbury Classic) by John Irving Emperor of the Air by Ethan Canin Across the Bridge by Mavis Gallant The 158-Pound Marriage by John Irving

Sarah | 13814 comments Local bookstore had a coupon this past weekend for 10 books for $20.
I got a bunch of Moosewood cookbooks, a couple of graphic novels, a couple of novels, a history of candy.

Susan | 6406 comments What a great deal!

message 255: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I am trying not to buy too many new books, but that was impossible to resist. And graphic novels and Moosewood books aren't usually cheap.

message 256: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I have a tiny spiral Moosewood cookbook that I scored at the thrift store. I was rather proud of that one.

Tonight. $89-something. I bought the Uglies series, Graveminders and a YA series about wolves. Werewolves I think. It has been a long time since I wrote it in my moleskine, but one of y'all must've read it, as that is where I write books you inspire me to read. I realize it is not exactly great literature. But, i just need something fun right now. Oh, and I bought one for the stepson, no idea what he picked. Mr. Amy never chose a book...

Phil | 11837 comments Not exactly a splurge, but today my son bought a Pokemon comic and I bought Middlesex.

I've bought Poisonwood Bible, Tree grows in Brooklyn, a pretty hardback copy of Tale of Two Cities, and Life of Pi. All of which I'm teaching next year.

message 261: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments Bought more books this weekend. The Hollow:, Taken at the Flood, Murder, She Wrote: Murder at the Powderhorn Ranch. I've been very bad lately :/

Jaimie (jaimie476) | 664 comments This weekend I went used bookstore & trift store shopping with a friend. I actually only found one book but it's a hardcover copy of The Book of Imaginary Beings in pretty much perfect condition for $10. :-)

I read all of those (minus "Tale") in the past few years. :)

Can you plz read "Tale" and instruct me on its ways so I can instruct my sub on how to instruct it?

Basically, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Think of it as the spring of hope and the winter of despair.

After Dark

I had also picked up 1Q84 but discovered I had left my 20% off coupon at home. I'll go back for this one, coupon in hand.

Charlotte Creech | 100 comments I hit a library book sale over the weekend. Too many books bought to list here, but a huge shopping abg and $47.00 later... I think I made it home with about 30 books. I sneak them on the bookshelves the way some women sneak new clothes in to their closets, away from the prying eyes of their husbands wanting to know, "How much money did you spend?"
Some of the books i am most excited about are The Marriage Plot Cathedral The End of Your Life Book Club A Friend of the Earth The Elegance of the Hedgehog

message 270: by Carol (new)

Carol | 1678 comments Good haul! I worked the book sale today and was annoyed by how it was run. After my little shift I high-tailed it out of there.
I am going to Barnes and Noble Saturday to pick up my World Book Night giveaway books. I will not be able to resist the bargain book section. Next year if I get chosen I'll go back to picking them up at the local bookstore, they had a party for us!

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments How much was it at Costco?

I hardly ever look at the books at Costco.

message 272: by CD (new)

CD | 1577 comments Barnes & Noble 20% extra sale this weekend!

message 273: by [deleted user] (new)

I am just about to go shopping for books. I don't have any books in mind. I have simply found myself with no books on hand I want to read. At the moment.

Barb wrote: "Today I bought miniBarb a new Geronimo Stilton book, and picked up Gone Girl for myself."

I have about 20 Geronimo Stilton books. My son loved them.

message 276: by Alexw (last edited Nov 09, 2015 10:13AM) (new)

Alexw Might be a tough winter here so in case I get snowed in-I bought some HIghlander Grog coffee- (3 lbs) at Starbucks and
Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling
The Black Count-won the Pulitzer
Wright Brothers by McCullough
Edge of Eternity by Follett

Annette Hart | 172 comments My last splurge was a disaster because I bought several books I thought sounded good for my children only to discover that I'd already bought them previously!

My last splurge was a remaindered copy of Death in Venice and Seven Other Stories for $4.95. I think it was a very good deal. Remaindered = new.

message 279: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments Crossword puzzle books for my mom and I so we can stop fighting over the newspaper.

message 280: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24786 comments Mod
I was so disappointed when I found out the crossword puzzle is not included in the New York Times digital subscription, which I have. You have to buy it separately. Different prices depending on whether you buy it monthly or annually. Probably I would forget to do them so it wouldn't even be worth it to spend the money.

message 282: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments That would definitely be a deal breaker for me.

Lobstergirl | 24786 comments Mod
Joseph and His Brothers at the used bookstore for $18. It was a good deal though because it's in perfect condition, hardcover, and the new one at the regular bookstore is $45. Also I had been looking for this particular translation in perfect condition for more than two years.

message 285: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments A couple of Agatha Christie anthologies at 2nd and Charles.

message 286: by Marie (new)

Marie I sometimes do the "friends of the library" sales at my local library, but I have in the past ordered my books from a thrift store online that sells paperbacks and hardbacks dirt cheap. :)
