I was asked this question in another forum, and I thought I'd share my answer here:

I was a software engineer for almost twenty-two years before I retired and began writing. But, I wouldn't want to try to catch up with all the current technology and do that again. I think if I couldn't write, I'd do something related to my love of travel, adventure, and outdoor activities. Maybe I'd organize and lead adventure trips for seniors--ones where you are busy doing things and sightseeing during the day, but you sleep on a nice, soft mattress at night. Like a wine tasting and biking tour, a whitewater rafting and outdoor cooking class tour, or a hut-to-hut wildflower photography and hiking tour. I like being outdoors during the daytime, but my body protests violently when I try to sleep on the ground, so no more tent camping for me! Would you go on one of my tours?

If you could choose your ideal occupation, what would it be?
