Kellee (dark_angel) I figured since we come to this group to say what our current read is, we might as well talk about the last book we read. I know we can easily go to the reviews, but considering we all like Urban Lit, it would be so much easier to post reviews here. Also, there are a lot of books members are reading that we may not have heard of and hearing the reviews may let us know if it's worth checking it out.

Kellee (dark_angel) The last book I read was Secret Society by Miasha. I'm a big Miasha fan so I had to get this book, but it wasn't all that. I was disappointed. The emphasis on the attire the characters were wearing was a bit much. Overall, it was just an "ok" book to me.

Blkjewelz | 21 comments Just finished TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE by E. Lynn Harris. Truly one of his best works but then too, they are all good. I own one of his manuscripts as well.

Also finished Chasing Faith, that too was an excellent read.

Dawn | 7 comments I just finished reading Dirty Lil Secrets by Joy King. I liked it. Liked it enough to purchase the second part to it.. Hooker to Housewife, which I am reading now.

message 6: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 7 comments Thanks for that feedback on Secret Society, Kellee. Because I thought abotu buying it the other day when I was in the book store. I read Sistah for Sale by Miasha not too long ago and i didn't really like it.

Cheemoandia (Misscrb) | 59 comments The last book I read was Nasty Dick by Dex, it was not what I expected at all it was ten times more. Reading this book was like a roller coaster ride full of drama and action. I think my mouth was wide open half the time, because of some of the characters and the things they did. Very quick and easy read!

Kellee (dark_angel) I just finished The Madam by Jacki Simmons and it was a waste of time and money. I almost put the book down after 30 pages. Then I figured I'd give it at least 100 pages. By that time I was almost halfway through and since I paid for it, I painfully read the rest. I am so glad to be done with this boring ass book.

message 11: by Cheemoandia (new)

Cheemoandia (Misscrb) | 59 comments Lol was it that bad?

Stacy-Deanne Stacy-Deanne (wwwgoodreadscomstacydeanne) | 1 comments Hi, just popping in to speak since I'm new here. My name's Stacy and I'm an author. Right now I am reading Jealousy by Marsha Sanders but with my schedule I am lucky if I can finish reading a book these days, LOL. By the way the book is very good so far. I am glad to be apart of the group. Feel free to visit my page to check out my own books and to read about what I'm up to these days. Also, feel free to send me an invite. I'd love to add you guys as friends. I've also posted a sample of my latest thriller, novel, "Melody" on my page. Come by and vote. I look forward to participating in the group. Best Wishes!

Dangerously in Love by Allision Hobbs. This book was FIRE!!!! I read all 400pgs in one day!!! MUST READ!!!!

message 14: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 7 comments Jeanni I finished hooker to housewife! It was good!I think I liked it better than dirty lil secrets. I need to pick up the final part asap!

message 15: by Blkjewelz (new)

Blkjewelz | 21 comments Just finished White Lines. That was one of the best Urban Lit books I have ever read -- and I have read many. The writing, the visual aspect, almost made you feel like you were right in the heart of action in Staten Island. Tried to read all 497 pages in one day but it took 2 days to finish. I will be looking for other books by Ms. Brown as she is has been added to my list of favorite authors (J. California Cooper and E. Lynn Harris and now Ms. Brown).

message 16: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) Cheemoandia, YES girl, it was really that bad!!! I'm giving the book away for free because I can't bring myself to charge someone I know for that book. It really sucked that bad. I wanted to rip my eyes out. LOL.

message 17: by Blkjewelz (new)

Blkjewelz | 21 comments Perhaps we post the latest books here. Then break off into discussion of books we have read in common or a book we all intend to read. Would be nice to have and organized discussion on a book everyone can read at the same time.

For example, next week we will begin reading BOOK X, depending on how fast everyone reads we will discuss the book, the questions in the back of the book for book clubs.

that sounds like a good idea. im about to start shameless hoodwives. the follow up to desperate hoodwives.

message 19: by Cheemoandia (new)

Cheemoandia (Misscrb) | 59 comments Was it Dirty D!ck or Nasty D!ck?

message 20: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) That's a good idea B. I always thought that's what a book club was. And if we aren't interested in that book, then we just won't participate for that discussion. I think we need to agree on and compile a list of books that we are interested in reading and then give ourselves enough time to read it. For me, I can't finish a book in 2 days because I'm a police officer so when I'm at work, I can't just read. So I'd need like 2 weeks minimum. So how do we start this? I think we should also have the list of books because some of us may not already have the book and need to either order it (take into account delivery time) or go buy it.

Let's get this thing started...We can even make our own book group instead of doing it here in the Street Lit Corner, but can invite everyone and see who's all interested...

Anymore ideas?

message 21: by Blkjewelz (new)

Blkjewelz | 21 comments Sounds good to me. I just finished Sleep with the Enemy by Wahida Clark and KiKi Swinson.

Yes, we need to compile a list of books, agree on a book, set a time to finish the book (2 weeks is good), and then discuss the book at intervals and/or when we finish reading it. But the main thing is to compile a list and agree on a book.

I suppose we can see each others TO READ list and come up with a book from there.

What do you think?

message 22: by Blkjewelz (new)

Blkjewelz | 21 comments Richelle can you enligthen us what the book is about? I read some of the excerpts but wanted to get your take on that particular book.

Its a bunch of different women living in the projects of bentley manor. the book is telling their story about the stuff that are going through. I think anybody can relate to this book because it touches on SOOOO many things. At one point weve been through this ourselves or know someone who has. I would recommend you/everybody reading this book! So then we can talk about it in more detail :)

Shannon (dolphinlover) | 5 comments Mine was Never Enough By Miasha and it was off the hook! Boy I tell you that book is definitely one you have to read!

message 25: by Brooklyn (new)

Brooklyn Darkchild (brooklyndarkchild) Richelle: Desperate Hoodwives was the BOMB! Can't WAIT for Shameless Hoodwives.

Kellee: Pitbulls in a Skirt is high on my TBR list so I'm glad you're enjoying it. We seem to have similar tastes.

Blkjewelz: Thanks for stopping by the Mahogany Book Club Virtual Meet and Greet and leaving a message. Another book club on this site is reading my book this month so I am Shamelessly Promoting myself for your first discussion pick.

message 26: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I just finished Pitbulls In A Skirt tonight and could not wait to get on here and share my thoughts. I LOVED IT!!! That's all I'm going to say! It's definitely worth reading.

message 27: by Keyona (new)

Keyona | 8 comments I just finished reading Just too Good to Be True by E. Lynn Harris and I must say I'm disappointed.I expected much more from him.I knew what was going to happen before it happened. There were characters I wanted to know more about that he only touched on and didn't even tell us what happened to them at the end. They just kind of disappeared...Huge waste of time.I'm waiting to be blown away by a book. It hasn't happened in a long time.Any suggestions? I second the idea to read Brooklyn's book for the first discussion.

message 28: by Brooklyn (new)

Brooklyn Darkchild (brooklyndarkchild) Praise the Lord Keyona. Thank you.

message 29: by Blkjewelz (new)

Blkjewelz | 21 comments Just finished reading Tracy Brown's TWISTED. Excellent book.

Keyona, I am surprised you didn't like E. Lynn's new book. While it is not like all his other books and only 2 characters from previous books showed up in this one, it was still a long awaited read.

This book has none of the regular sexual encounters and no d/l or gay scenes. This book is a novel on it's own two feet so it comes from a different aspect. All in all it was ok, not his best work but still long awaited for.

message 30: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I finished the Cat House tonight by Anna J, Laurinda D. Brown & Brittani Williams. It started off pretty good but got so boring towards the end that I don't even really remember how it ended OR what the point of the whole story was. It's for sale if you want it for $5. LOL.

message 31: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (dolphinlover) | 5 comments Mine was Desperate Hoodwives by Meesha Mink and De'nesha Diamond. It was really good. I breezed right through it.

LOL Kellee

Shannon when you are finished with Shameless Hoodwives would you like to discuss the books? Ive read both and would like to get someones thoughts etc!

message 33: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) Richelle, I've read Desperate Hoodwives, but have yet to get Shameless Hoodwives. I'm probably going to order it tonight. We can discuss it if you want. I read it awhile ago so you might have to refresh my memory, but I'm sure Shameless Hoodwives will.

message 34: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I finished Poison by K.D. Harris tonight. It was ok. It could have been better. I felt like there were a lot of unnecessary characters in the book and I had to go back a few times to see who some of the characters were. Definitely had a lot of drama though.

message 35: by Richelle (new)

Hey Kellee,
I have Shameless hoodwives if you want to buy it.
$5.00

message 36: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I read Going Broke by Trista Russell for the second time and just like the first time, it was a good read.

message 37: by Jeanni (new)

Jeanni | 17 comments I JUST FINISHED " DIARY OF A KINGPINS DAUGHTER " AND IT WAS A 5* I REALLY ENJOYED IT. IT'LL GO ON MY FAVORITE LIST.

message 38: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I just finished Dead Broke. It was ok. Nothing I got too excited about. Going Broke (the prequel) was definitely a lot better.

message 39: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I just finished Dutch by Teri Woods. I expected it to be sooo much better than it was because it was sold out everywhere and it took me forever to find the book. Because of all the rave reviews and the book being unavailable, I hyped myself up to read a "regular" book. I would recommend it to others, but if you can't find it, you aren't missing anything major.

message 40: by Jeanni (new)

Jeanni | 17 comments HI, I HAVE A QUESTION, HAVE YOU READ " GUTTER " YET ? I WAS WONDERING WHAT ANYONE THOUGHT OF IT.
STAY BLESSED

message 41: by Chas (new)

Chas (pooh1975) | 14 comments I have had Gutter for a while, but I have not read it yet. It is important to read Gangster first because Gutter is the sequel to Gangsta...So it is important to read Gangster first and that is by K'wan also...But I have heard EXCELLENT things on Gutter.

message 42: by Keyona (new)

Keyona | 8 comments I have Gutter as well but I have not gotten to read it just yet. However, Gangsta was one of the best street books I've read in a long time. I really hope Gutter is as good as the first one.

message 43: by Andre (new)

Andre hey everyone, I just finished "Daughter Denied" by Alretha Thomas. Great book, 5-star all the way. Pick this one up, if you get the chance.

message 44: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I finished Joy & Pain by Franklin White. It was ok. It kept me intrigued, but I didn't think it had a real point to it.

message 45: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I just finished Shameless Hoodwives and it was wonderful.

Lady T (ladyt) | 2 comments I finished Seduction by Geneva Holliday which was very good. I'm now reading The Million Dollar Divorce. I have about 34 pages to go to finish. It's getting really juicy now.

message 48: by Cheemoandia (new)

Cheemoandia (Misscrb) | 59 comments I just finished Pain Freak by Gregory Garrett, I just could not get into it. I usually read a book in a few days this book took me about a week. I would pick it up then put it down, basically I had to force myself to finish.

message 49: by Kellee (new)

Kellee (dark_angel) I just finished A Taste of Honey by Darren Coleman and that book was wonderful. I didn't want to put the book down. It was a definite page turner. You guys should check it out when you get a chance.

message 50: by Cheemoandia (new)

Cheemoandia (Misscrb) | 59 comments Recently finished Gangsta Bitch, which was a quick and easy read. Frankie Five Fingers did the darn thing, she stuck by her man and wears the title well.
