Listening to in April 2011
I'm relistening to the first two Bones and Cat novels. Not sure what I want to be listening to -- not ready for SHADOWFEVER.I guess it depends what I'll be writing next.

Are you relistening to gather more detail or just for the sheer enjoyment? After the Kate Daniels series, this is next on my list for paranormal listens.
No, just to sort of get me in the mood. Right now I'm working on a more traditional romantic suspense, and that will be followed in May by a hot paranormal, so I sort of thought I should wait till then for SHADOWFEVER. I've got lots of historicals available on the TBL list.

I liked book 1 pretty well but couldn't get into book 2.
Vic did you see that Patricia Briggs Dragon Blood was released at Audible yesterday? I know you were waiting for it, at one time anyway, as the follow up to Dragon Bones. Same narrator too, so that's nice.
I'm listening to It Happened One Seasonby Stephanie Laurens at al. Just started it but I really am enjoying the male narrator.

First book is Grave Sight. You'll have to check it out.
Unique ability for the premise and with the set up between the lead characters. Alyssa Bresnahan narrates, she does good work in my ears.
I did thanks! I grabbed that when I got Chasing Fire. I read the ebook but now I'll revisit... thanks for letting me know! Good! I know Joe Manganiello "looks" good :p but how is he as a narrator?
Brenda wrote: "Kelli glad to see your enjoying the Lily Bard series. I was going to mention that the Harper Connelly series by Harris is also not a cozy mystery series."Thanks, Brenda. I listened to that series several years ago and really enjoyed it. In fact, I think I listened to that before starting the Sookie series and I agree, Alyssa Bresnahan did a really good job.
I started Shards of Honor by Bujold yesterday and it's a great book! This fulfills my 5th SOA Listening Challenge category (get a suggestion from someone else), plus it's the Sci-Fi Romance group's "Book of the Month" for April. In addition, it's been on my TBR list for over a year (2011 TBR Challenge), and it satisfies as a 2011 Sci-Fi Romance Reading Challenge. Whew! Four challenges with one book, and it's a great read too! The narrator (whose name slips my mind) is wonderful.

You know I need to go back and revisit. This is what I had on my review of first book...
I thought his reading of the book was pretty good but will need to re-listen. I hadn't read this book before and found myself getting lost quite a bit (especially at the beginning) due to names being very similar and being somewhat distracted.
Don't remember if his reading was also a reason I was having a harder time tracking the book or not.
Just finished
and I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book in the series. I didn't like Maggie much in book 1 was had a hard time really investing in her for this book though I did enjoy Nick. Other issue is having same reader for books in a series when book is first person POV and that person changes during series. It had been about a month between reading book 1 and this one and sometimes if I lost focus I would forget who was "speaking".
Just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I liked the narration but wasn't as crazy about the book as everybody else seems to be. But I'm a mystery reader so nothing that happened in the book surprised me.Now I'm listening another mystery Proof. For some reason, I really like mysteries in audiobook. :)
Still on a JD Robb Marathon. I'm up to #13, Seduction in Death. There were lots of complaints of the narrator in this book. I don't think it's the narrator. I think they changed the recording setup, which greatly affected the quality.

And over the course of this book and the next and then going back to do the backlist, I think that's when she developed her voices for all of the characters. I just get to this book (after listening to book 1 - this one) and I can no longer tell if it's Eve or Peabody speaking unless I'm really listening to what is said.
Just finished The Name of the Wind and am starting Spider's Bite. On my kindle I just finished The Winter Sea which was fantastic. Am starting To Surrender To A Rogue since it was nominated for a RITA historical. I've never read Cara Elliott before but am trying to keep an open mind.
Re-listened to
.Now listening to Dream Man for listening challenge. This one got most recommendations on the Linda Howard thread.
I dnfed Remember Me? not because of the narration but the book itself. Now I'm listening to Perfect Chemistry and it's FANTASTIC!!
I finished the Fever series and was very impressed. Plenty of flaws but still quite wonderful. Then listened to one of my favorite Georgette Heyers -- The Corinthian (gray market -- not available). I tried THE PINK CARNATION again but it's just not my style. I don't really like light historicals. It's charming but I like more angst. I'll try again later, I guess. I didn't like the heroine and the hero didn't appeal to me.Does it get better?
I guess I was in the mood for some lighthearted historicals cause I just galloped thru the entire series. I really enjoyed the tongue-in-cheekiness the author wrote with. In fact that's a lot of what made the book(s) so laugh out loudable for me.
I listened to a short Susan Mallery book that was on sale on audible for under $3 The Substitute Millionaire. It was okay, especially for the price. Now I've started Black Ice by Anne Stuart.

Just finished narrating ARIZONA EMBRACE, by Leigh Greenwood (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/93...), a historical romance set in Arizona and Texas in the late 1800s, which revolves around a fugitive heroine, and the cowboy/bounty hunter who vows to take her in. Remembered that you had posted about the cowboy/western theme and thought I would mention it.
You are right, there is something about cowboys...
I agree with Diane - The Pink Carnation series is definitely light-hearted and tongue-in-cheek. The author's humor is right up my alley, and Kate Reading's interpretation spot on. When you say you don't like the hero and heroine, I don't know if you meant Eloise and Colin or the historical h/h, but I found Amy's combination of wide-eyed naivete and take-the-world-by-storm attitude refreshing and funny. Yeah, it's sorta silly - I'm in. I can be silly.I'm in the midst of about 3 series, and I just keep switching them around. Julie Garwood's Buchanan-Renard, Pink Carnation and Wiggs' Lakeshore Chronicles - each pretty different.
Barbie, I have to admit I too have a soft spot for cowboy romance, although in real life I'm not at all attracted to that type of man or lifestyle.
I haven't found the historical characters appealling, but I didn't get to the modern ones. I presume the hero will be the grumpy descendant who won't let her near his "private home." Okay, I'll try it again. But right now I'm listening to the one Lisa Kleypas I haven't heard -- the first Capital Theater book.
Barbie, I'm also a fan of cowboy romances. I hope they make audiobooks of Lorelei James' cowboys.Right now I'm listening to Ten Things I Love About You. I think I enjoy Julia Quinn's books more in audio format (if that's possible as I like her a lot).
I just finished Eternal Rider, the first book in Larissa Ione's new series. Not quite as great as her Demonica series (one of my favorites) for me, but still really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Will be starting Addicted by Charlotte Featherstone today.
Re-listened to Into the Storm (Troubleshooters 10) , Dark of Night (TS 14), and currently on Hot Pursuit (TS 15) by Susan Brockmann. Really enjoy this series and these are a few of my favorites.
Just finished Spider's Bite and am starting And One Last Thing .... Spider's Bite grabbed me. Very understated narration and a unique heroine. Unique - to me - in that she displays more typical male behavior than female. She is the aggressor. Confident and ruthless. Her softer emotions are all locked away - and stay that way with the exception of some grief. But I liked her and rooted for her.Molly Harper is fun and I am enjoying this audiobook.
Since I'm generally a freak about reading a series in order I still don't know why I listened to Turbulent Sea and Hidden Currents and not the others in Christine Feehan Drake Sisters series. I decided to rectify that and have listened Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, #1) and Oceans of Fire in the last week. Now to start Dangerous Tides.
I really enjoy Alyssa Bresnahan's narrating even those these books can really meander at times.
Last week, I started listening to audiobooks again. I forgot how much I loved them.Today I finished
and started
I just finished This Heart of Mine by SEP. I'd read it before, but hadn't listened to it. I think it might be the only one I hadn't listened to of the Chicago Stars series. I found I had a little less patience with Molly while listening than I did while reading, but overall I loved the audio, and still loved the book. The humor seemed that much better with Anna Fields incredible timing and voice inflection.Today I downloaded The Highlander's Touch by Moning and The Spymaster's Lady by Bourne. Both of these are new authors for me, so I might use one for my next SOA Listening Challenge category.

The Highlander's Touch is my least favorite of the Highlander series (don't want to discourage you). If it doesn't work for you, try Kiss of the Highlander next. It's #4 in the series but you don't feel as though you are beginning in the middle of the series. Books 4-7 are the best of the series IMHO.
Well pooh! I'd originally thought to buy the first Highlander book, but was told several places to start with the third. Oh well. I'll remember what you said and give #4 a try even if this one doesn't do it for me. From what I understand, I'll enjoy Phil Gigante's narration no matter what. ;-)Thanks!
Carrie wrote: "Well pooh! I'd originally thought to buy the first Highlander book, but was told several places to start with the third. Oh well. This series is such a blast and I don't want you to miss out on the fun. However, if I had started before KOTH, I don't know if I would have had the same level of enthusiasm. Here's hoping you enjoy The Highlander's Touch!
Too many opinions is the story of life, isn't it! ;-) No matter what subject you decide to "research" you will find opposing opinions from people you respect, and every opinion in between. I found that out researching curriculum for homeschooling my kids. I've learned to go with the consensus and the people I know and hope for the best. I'm sure Highlander's Touch will be entertaining, and then, backed with your good advice, I'll go on to KOTH. How can I lose?

."My whole family is reading Wise Man's Fear (in hardcover). I have The Name of the Wind on audio, but don't think I can listen to 20+ hours of one book! LOL My oldest daughter listened to it, but said she was going to read Wise Man's Fear because it was too much of a listening marathon. Reading it seemed shorter. I haven't read either of them yet.
I'm the opposite. I prefer to listen to long books rather than reading them (but then, I'm a slow reader.)Next month I'm planning to listen to The Fiery Cross (56 hrs.) and I'm on the waiting list for A Game of Thrones and The Bourne Identity at the library (both 30+ hours.)
You know, D.G, I think I'm just a little shallow in my "old" age. I don't want to make long commitments to books either in print or on audio. I don't seem to have the patience for delayed gratification anymore. ;-) Audiobooks in general require more patience from me because I'm a relatively fast reader plus I tend to skim when a book gets "slow." You'd think with age I'd gain more patience and wisdom, instead of suffering from adult-onset ADD. :-P
I have a couple of t-shirts that say "I LOVE BIG BOOKS". They are in reference to the Outlander books. :) As far as I'm concerned, the longer the better (as long as the story is good). I've been that way ever since I first started reading. I'm the same way with my listening. :) I have
in my audible library waiting for me. Got it when they offered it for 1 credit. :)
Starting These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer today. I normally prefer a bit steamier romances, but thought I would check out this author based on reviews I've read.

I am not going to listen to all 40+ books in a row, but I read them in batches. I am on the third of my current batch. Then I'll get tired of the gloom and doom of Dallas's head and move to something else for a while and then come back to the series.
