Brittomart Titled: "Stop Fucking with the Layout"

Has anyone else's like, place where they see the group updates changed? I used could see a list (a long one if I clicked "expand" of the recently updated topics. Now like, the group icons are smaller, and instead of "expand" it's "start a new topic."

*shakes fist**

Didn't they start showing book discussions in the group section all of a sudden too? It's fucking annoying. I'll gladly write one with you, Britt.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Heh. You just have to hit the "groups" tag again, Britt. I'm glad you mentioned it, though...I couldn't figure out what happened, either.

message 4: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I should be more specific. Where it says "showing" you'll see "groups/books/both". Hit groups if you just want to see groups.

They are busy little bees in the Goodreads team. They keep you on your toes.

Yay the expand is back. I love Goodreads!

They changed the "groups" tab to read "discussions". Now it contains all your groups, plus book discussions below that. They want to get people more actively involved in creating and posting in actual book discussions. Before, the only way to "discuss" a book was on the book's page, at the bottom, by clicking on the "discuss this book" link. But most people, down there in that section, weren't really discussing the book, they were just hyperlinking it in some group and saying "I'm reading this," but not discussing it. Goodreads is trying to transcend mere hyperlinking, i.e., they want to encourage actual posts about books' contents.

Maybe I will give it a look. I had simply clicked back to groups without thinking about it.

That was thoughtless, Gail.

Ha, yep.

Brittomart Can we choose what books to see updates for?

message 13: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
It seems to be showing books that you've shelved or rated.

message 14: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Yeah, but I might want to see updates for a book I'm currently reading vs something I read seven years ago

My guess is that it's showing you books which have been commented on/discussed most recently.

You could start a discussion yourself on a book, and that might get people to add posts.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Are the discussions coming from within groups? I'm a bit confused.

No - you can start a discussion of a book independent of a group, on the bottom of the book's page. It's a feature that has been there for a long time, but not many people noticed. Goodreads is trying to make it more visible by dragging it out into the sunlight.

Félix (habitseven) They replaced the "expand" link/button.

The new discussion layout is ugly and cluttered. Goodreads is often bad at aesthetics, I've noticed.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Gee and I was just about to start a conspiracy theory suggesting you were a Goodreads stooge sent to keep a close eye on TC LG. Then you go and blow it on me.

Too close to the truth?

message 24: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) A mole?

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

You can't call LG a mole. That really isn't very nice.

What was that show with Anderson Cooper? The Amazing Mole?

message 27: by Michael (new)

Michael I didn't watch Celebrity Mole, but the regular shows were really good.
