Two Books I Can't Wait For You To Read

We asked the authors and guests (many of them active participants in this group!) of the first ever Books on the Nightstand Weekend Retreat to recommend two books they can't wait for us to read -- new, old, in print or out of print, it didn't matter.

Michael used his graphic design skills to create an amazing book that will be printed on demand on the Espresso Book Machine at The Northshire Bookstore.

I spent about 1/2 an hour with the book when the proof copy came off press, and another 1/2 hour last night. It's simply wonderful! On almost every page was a book that I added to my reading list.

Each participant has a full page for their two recommendations and the reason why they love the book. The authors include Chris Bohjalian, Jon Clinch, Wendy Clinch, Matthew Dicks, Susan Gregg Gilmore, Elizabeth Stuckey-French, Steve Himmer, Ellen Meeropol, and John Milliken Thompson.

i love the girl who trilogy , i am reading the last one very slowly if it is possible to do that, i will miss those books very much, i really did like the invisible bridge by julie orringer. hope someone will read these suggestions.

I have a question for BOTNS folks. My Bookclub generally focuses on fiction but this month I'm really anxious to introduce great nonfiction. So, I need help deciding between "Unbroken" and "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lachs."

Both are excellent, Nancy, but I think The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is more discussion-worthy.

Although I personally preferred Henrietta Lachs,
Unbroken spurred much more conversation. Your group

Just ordered "Two Books I Can't Wait For You to Read" from Northshire Books and it can't come soon enough! Just finished "Next" by James Hynes and could use some suggestions on what I should pick up next! Feeling a little wrung out after finishing Hynes' novel. Any suggestions?

I think it's a great idea! While I was going through the book I had thought it would be neat if all the listeners recommended their favorites.. then I wondered how big that book would have to be! Move over War & Peace...

Sounds like a wonderful idea...I bought a few extra for Christmas gifts, and the larger BOTNS one would be in MY stocking!

Both of them are fantastic, but for book group--at least one like ours with lots of busy women- I think I would lean towards Henrietta Lacks. It's extremely readable, brings up fascinating scientific, social, and moral questions to discuss that are not necessarily clearcut, and is not that long. A perfect combination.

I bought several extra copies of "our book" (Two books...)and brought them home from the retreat as gifts for my friends...Everyone LOVED them. I'm planning on giving them to my bookclub for Christmas.
