Thanks for the link, Wilhelmina. I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow and am bringing THE KNOWN WORLD with me. I will keep the question he started with in mind. I've been thinking about artistic compulsion lately, and am kind of relieved that I don't suffer from it. I hope that those that do, and don't receive the rewards of fame and finance, find reward in the creation itself.
I remember reading another article about Mr. Jones (probably posted here), and thinking that he seemed so likeable. I've got a copy of ALL AUNT HAGAR'S CHILDREN waiting on my shelf.

Many artists say that, Christine; that you can't help yourselves, the work calls out to be created. They recommend your approach, too- more perspiration than inspiration.
