Crystal (crystalline) | 2 comments It would be great if there were some sort of archival tool that allows for easy saving of all the books we've read, or want to read--saving our different bookshelf lists, that sort of thing. I could copy and paste each individual page into a Word document, but having well over 2000 books it would take some time.
There have been occasions when I've had to do without internet access and it would be nice to be able to quickly print off legible, computer-language-less lists. And besides, I would feel better having some kind of personal back-up file "just in case." *makes a series of warding-off gestures*

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Crystal, This would be a better post in the Goodreads Feedback group but I can answer.

Happily, we can do this.

Go to "my books" at the top of the page.

Then click on the "import" link, then click on the "export to a csv file" link.

All the books on your Goodreads' shelves will export to a document on your computer. You can play around with it and edit it in Excel.

Have fun!

Amy (amyhageman) | 57 comments Lisa,
Can you give me further information/instruction on the export?
Every time I have tried it, it exports all of my books - I have not been able to export individual shelves using this tool...(I did find another way using cut/paste and excel, but I think it might be limited to the number showing up on a page.)
The problem with exporting all of my books is that the shelves are all together in one column - it is not an easy thing to sort by individual shelf.
And yes, this probably should be in the feedback group.

Crystal,
The best I've been able to come up with is to use the print view and print the individual shelves I'm interested in - mainly, my to-read lists so I can take them to the bookstore with me.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Amy,

Anyone who knows Excel can answer you I suspect. What I do know is that once all your books are in that document, and yes I think we have to export all, there's a way in Excel to sort by the shelf field and I think you can separate out data at that stage.

Members who know Excel, please give information if you can. Thanks!

Amy (amyhageman) | 57 comments Thanks, Lisa! Hopefully someone will come to my rescue-
If I had each book on only one shelf, it would be easy.

Stephen Theaker (rolnikov) | 12 comments In Excel select the top row (click on the 1 at the side) and turn on Autofilter (Data-Filter-Autofilter, or something similar depending on your version and customisation). Then you can filter by the bookshelves column (N).

I'll try it.
