Description on Goodreads:
"Keep Your Head Down.

Don't Get Noticed.

Or Else.

I'm Trella. I'm a scrub. A nobody. One of thousands who work the lower levels, keeping Inside clean for the Uppers. I've got one friend, do my job and try to avoid the Pop Cops. So what if I occasionally use the pipes to sneak around the Upper levels? The only neck at risk is my own…until I accidentally start a rebellion and become the go-to girl to lead a revolution."

Format: Paperback, 320 pages
Published April 1st 2010 by Harlequin (first published March 24th 2010)
Next book in series: Outside In

Kellyflower | 248 comments I read this back in February.
I liked the way Snyder created a world of small hall ways, narrow passages, pipes, vents & Gaps. It's a world full of propaganda that leaves everyone leery of everyone.
In it she places, Trella and the scubs, along with them is you. Your right there with Trella as she's squeezing through air ducts, peeking/spying on the "uppers" .
I'll admit while reading it I thought, mmm.."I wonder if this is like the book Incarceron?" but honestly it's not.
The whole time reading it I wanted to know the same thing Trella wanted to know, "What's Outside?"

I was upset about (view spoiler)

I'm currently reading the sequel Outside In (Inside Out, #2) by Maria V. Snyder

Sashana I enjoyed the book. At first Cog reminded me of a younger and sober version of Haymitch from The Hunger Games and Trella reminded me of Katniss. I was quickly proven wrong once I continued to read. Like Kelly, I love how Snyder set up inside. I like how they used weeks instead of years to measure time. I loved the terminology (pop cops, scrubs, uppers) and how the little things made up this awesome new society. I think that I'll like Outside In much better because I feel like this book just gave us a small glimpse of everything. One more thing (view spoiler)

Sandra | 27 comments I have this one on hold at my library. Hopefully it wont be too much longer.

Alicia I really enjoyed it too! This was a nice change of pace for me after reading all six of Snyder's Study/Glass series. Like everyone else has said, I thought the world-building was excellent, detailed and atmospheric - I really did get a strong sense of claustrophobia while reading about Inside. I did not predict that (view spoiler)

Sashana I agree with you in thinking that (view spoiler) Do you have the second book yet, Alicia?

Alicia Yupp, I got them both out of the library so I'll be starting with the second one today!

Sashana A Discovery of Witches is seriously slowing down my reading time.

Alicia Just because it's long or is it dull or something? I have it signed out from the library, but haven't started it yet...

Sashana It's the length mostly. The (almost) 600 pages of this book is taking me longer than I expected. It's not dull but it's lacking a bit of originality in my opinion. I'm having Twilight flashbacks every now and then.

Sandra | 27 comments I am STILL waiting for this one to come in to the library - sigh!

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Finished this book last night. I really liked the characters created by Snyder. Everyone played an important role in the final outcome. Trella constantly thinking that she had to work alone got a little old, but most YA novel heroines tend to think that way. I think the part that shocked me the most was the fact that (view spoiler) I'm really intrigued to see what happens in Outside In since the rebellion has basically already happened and its time to build a new society. Most dystopian novels focus so much on the rebellion that you don't see what comes of it, so I'm hoping Snyder shows a bit of that in the sequel.

Sashana I also wondered that too. Was the hidden space a big secret or not? I wonder what will be the problem in the next book. Most authors would drag out the rebellion for the whole series but not in this one. I kind of like that about it. It makes me more curious to know what will happen next.
