I merged them. It didn't actually take a superlibrarian, since only two people had shelved the bad edition. :)

Well I tried that but appeared a warning so this was the best solution I could find. Thanks anyway.

You'll get the superlibrarian-only warning if you try to delete an edition which isn't combined with any other editions; that might be what happened.
