I just finished reading The Shadows by Jacqueline West, the first in the series of The Books of Elsewhere. It was a creepy fantasy tale about a girl who moves into a creepy old house, whose paintings inside are not what they seem. Add a couple of guardian cats and you've got a mystery worth solving. Definitely spooky at times and a great first book.
