nisha, you are using nook right? i think it is much better than amazon because nook can read epub. i can't maintain the hassle of converting a file to mobi or azw file if using kindle.

BTW, my husband bought a samsung galaxy tab last 2 weeks. I am liking the feeling that i can read pdf crystal clear on it, because of the screen size at 10 inch. but still, the new nook with glow light seems interesting

Mslvoe | 42 comments Yes, I am. I have 2 Nook, 1st edition for my historical + contemporary and the Simple Touch for my highlander romance. What can I say, when something's free I'm greedy LOL I keep my ebooks in ipad and tab too.

I've seen a lot of free ebook in epub. That's the main reason why I consider Nook.

I'm thinking too about the new Nook with glow light. Gossshhhh so tempting!!!! I must give him a hint when he's coming back :D

You're welcome dear :-)

Maybe yes, and maybe not. If Amazon drops it's price on Kindle, I could maybe see B&N dropping the Nook price. 'cross finger'

Ummu - I found in youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2UJyx... or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwFni6...

Nouda has Kindle. He's Kindle expert :-)

message 226: by Norain (new)

Norain | 687 comments Kindle basic is, well, basic. Small and portable but apart from reading books you cannot do anything much with it. It has no built-in audio system so you cannot listen to songs or let it read the books for you. It does not come with free 3G so you can only browse the net when there is Wi-Fi connection. And since the portability is achieved by turning the keyboard into a virtual one, it is not so user friendly.

But if your need is basic, i.e you only want to read comfortably, then it is a darling. As for me I do not stuff all my ebooks into my Kindle. I store them in a pendrive and use Calibre to manage my titles. Only when I want to read a book will I download it to my Kindle. I find it easier and more manageable this way.

Yes, Kindle can read books other than Amazon's but if you buy from Amazon, the ebook can only be read with your Kindle. This is because the books are DRM protected. This will prove to be no problem however if you download software to remove the DRM.

i got the link from the forumer here too, thanks for the source... i think its ok for reading, even better than kindle touch, because kindle touch kind of lag from what i saw in youtube review... kindle basic is already ok la if only want to read.
kindle touch from that link is only rm375...
nook will be rm415 without cover... i am thinking between nook simple touch and kindle basic ... :?

message 228: by Lord Nouda (last edited Apr 20, 2012 07:21AM) (new)

Lord Nouda (nouda) | 54 comments Lol, it doesn't really lag. Unless you're used to using Galaxy tab or the like to read your ebooks. With the latest updates (5.0.03 for KT) the page turns are even faster.

The Glow e-readers look really awesome. I might consider upgrading once their prices come down a bit. Or maybe I should just wait for the color e-Ink readers that'll come out next year...I wonder how'd they affect battery life? The only reason the e-reader batteries last so long is because they don't use the battery AT ALL unless you're turning pages or using the extra functions (mp3/wifi/surfing).

Nisha, you bought the Gelaskins for your Nooks? How much lor? I was thinking of getting one for my kindle. =O

message 229: by Lord Nouda (new)

Lord Nouda (nouda) | 54 comments Oh if you're for the e-reader that can read pretty much everything, the Kobo is probably the best choice. It reads epub AND mobi. I was actually gonna buy that but no one was selling it at the time so I went with the touch instead.

It's got a very nice design (far better than kindle and a bit more stylish than the Nook) and...it comes in multiple colors! =D
_________________________

@ Norain, the 3G is only good if you live in a country where they allow you to buy their ebooks directly (US, UK..etc). For the rest of the world, it's pretty much useless since they only allow you to use it to go to their ebookstore to buy books, not to surf the web with.

message 230: by Norain (new)

Norain | 687 comments As far as my experience went, it could. Even in Malaysia. The browser was not that convenient but if I needed quick reference, especially on wikipidea, my Kindle was a great help.

Tapi Kindle Keyboard la. Kindle 4, eh, just us it for reading and that is all.

message 231: by Lord Nouda (last edited Apr 20, 2012 08:52PM) (new)

Lord Nouda (nouda) | 54 comments The K4 and KT can't use the 3G for browsing anymore other the kindle store and wikipedia. However the older kindles still get free interwebs with their 3G (K3 and older). The problem with getting an e-reader is that I keep getting (*cough*lanuning*cough*) new books and not reading them! So far I've got 5 pages of unread books on my kindle and it's increasing at about a page a week =P

If you're in malaysia, wifi is probably the best choice since you can't use the 3G anyway since the kindle doesn't support proxies/vpns which you'd need to buy ebook from Amazon. Not sure if B&N allows us to buy ebooks since I've never tried buying from them.

Lord Nouda wrote: Not sure if B&N allows us to buy ebooks since I've never tried buying from them.

You need to have US address if you want to buy from there. I tried once but I failed to remove the DRM. It's hassle and I prefer buy from Smashwords, Allromanceebook, Booksonboard and Kobo (using my US address). I download in my pc, remove the DRM thingy and copy paste to my Nook.

message 235: by Syahira (last edited Apr 21, 2012 03:12AM) (new)

Syahira | 752 comments I've asked the Kindle Malaysia ppl to bring in the skins. It would be better if someone bulk them instead of getting it straight individually. Shipping is ridiculously high on its own unless you find someone to smuggle it from US who eventually will fly here.

I bought the rm295+10 kindle from the singapore dude on 12/4 and gonna get it by 23/4, I think. The dude 'forgot' to ship it 5 days after I pay it.. thats why I'm still waiting. If you need it fast (like a day after delivery) and could spend a bit, rm360 is the average in lowyat but personally, I would skip that (add a couple ringgit and you get Kindle Touch) and head straight to Nook Touch (near same price with Touch and no ads).

Honestly, I'm still annoyed with the guy and singpost.. but PosMy is wonderful to me since yesterday so I'm happy now since I know the thing is nearby (I love PosMY tracker) and not "lost" in the thin air or something (4 days from Sg... aih)

I'm cheap.. thats why I opted for cheapest Kindle from cheapest seller. I'll wait for Kindle touch v2 later next year or so (sounds like they're making Kindle glow in the dark) I have no real reason to get expensive e-readers and I dont really think the lack of keyboard will bother me since I use Samsung E1080F which are the same thing anyway. I dont have any patience for audiobooks and text-to-speech so having them in a bookreader isn't necessary (you could put audiobooks in an iPod and read the book from there too). Both Amazon and B&N don't cater Malaysians but if you have a laptop/desktop, I don't really see it as an inconvenient if you could get gift cards from LYN.

Once my Kindle 4 arrived, I'm getting a lightwedge and some rm20-30 kindle cover and I'm good.

The 3G works even in Malaysia. I bought my Kindle Keyboard last year and went home for summer holiday, and while at my kampung I purchased some books. Yeah, the 3G worked just fine for Amazon store and Wikipedia but very slow if you use Google. Anyway, since I was able to purchase because I used my bank account in Australia, I guess the 3G will not be much use once I go home for good.

You could get ebooks from E-Sentral, MPH or Maxis or free ones from Netgalley. These days, I purchase more physical books instead of ebooks (since I could get them in either ways from some american friends).

Ummu Auni (ummuauni) | 544 comments Nisha, now I'm interested in buying nook. The seller that I contacted told me that it's not worth to buy the plug from him since it will cost more/less with the standard 3-plug adapter. Is it easy to charge using USB port?

And where can I get the leather cover as cool as yours??
TQ!!

message 240: by Mslvoe (new)

Mslvoe | 42 comments Which Nook? Nook 1st edition comes with adapter + usb cable but Nook simple touch come with usb cable only. No problem charge your nook by connecting it to a USB port on your computer. I always do that when I forgot to bring the adapter.

Got it from here : http://www.decalgirl.com/category.vie... http://www.gelaskins.com/ (they ship to MAS) http://www.skinit.com/

message 243: by Limau Nipis (new)

Limau Nipis (limaunipis) | 89 comments Ummu Auni, the usb cable can easily be plugged to your smartphone plug. I believe you can use the same plug because the usb is easily removable

message 244: by Lord Nouda (new)

Lord Nouda (nouda) | 54 comments You only need to charge it once a month or every 2 weeks if you read as much as I do, so it's not really a problem unless you don't have a computer at home. You can charge it with any usb cable (I tried it once with my external's usb cable). Not sure if that's possible with the nook.

The Nook's battery life is about double the Kindle's =P

Random change of topic. I remember seeing these book lights at MPH @ RM20. I wonder if I can clip them on my Kindle? They look just like this thing:
