Frank Hopkins (hopkinsfe) | 4 comments Unplanned Choices, Kindle version is on sale for $0.99 starting tomorrow Dec 10, 2014 through Dec 17, 2014.

Unplanned Choices by Frank E. Hopkins Unplanned Choices is a coming-of-age historical romantic drama, set in the late 1960s and early 1970s in New York City and Long Island during the turbulent period of the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, the women’s movement, the civil rights struggle, and the struggle for legalizing abortion.

The novel is the story of Steve Lynch and his first love, Anna Marino. Both Anna and Steve are raised in the Roman Catholic faith and struggle with the church’s prohibition of sexual activity and their growing sexual drives. They both meet in college after abandoning the church. Anna became pregnant and died during an abortion, before abortion on demand became legal in New York. The novel describes the impact of the abortion on Steve, the abortionist, Anna’s family and friends, and one NYPD investigator who committed murder.

If Anna could have legally had an abortion, she would not have died and the impact on the other characters in the novel would not have been as tragic.

Situations similar to that portrayed in Unplanned Choices, could be replicated hundreds of thousands of times in the future if abortion becomes illegal or is severely restricted in the United States.

Elisabeth | 16 comments Wanderlust Creek and Other Stories by Elisabeth Grace Foley
My new Western short story collection, Wanderlust Creek and Other Stories, releases next week on March 2nd—but for this last week of pre-orders I'm having a 99-cent sale on the ebook edition! (It'll also be available in paperback).

Book description: From the author of The Ranch Next Door and Other Stories come six more short stories exploring the joys, heartaches and laughter of life against the backdrop of the Old West. In “Single-Handed,” a gunfighter’s courage comes in doubt when he refuses to explain to his friends the real reason he backed down from a fight. The capable proprietress of the busiest eating-house in town handles a day of disasters large and small in the light-hearted “The Rush at Mattie Arnold’s,” while in “Room Service,” a hotel night clerk finds himself in on odd position after he allows an exhausted traveler to stay in a reserved room. And in the title story, the novella-length “Wanderlust Creek,” a young rancher and his wife struggle to hold onto their land and their dreams in the face of adversity from weather, enemies—and even doubts of each other.

Approximately 53,000 words.

David Hopper (davidhopperbooks) | 7 comments In Spirit & Truth is a coming-of-age novel of race, friendship, loyalty, love and loss. From the tense days of the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War, In Spirit & Truth traces a secret and very unlikely relationship across three tumultuous decades.

“I guess I can only share my half of the story. You already know a lot of it, especially all of the things she might have told you. Shoot, you were there for some of it! I think it would be best to tell just a little bit at a time, though. That way, you’ll be older when we reach the harder and more grown-up parts. Maybe I’ll even write the whole thing down some day.

“Of course, it all starts in Alabama. I was only ten, not much more than you are now. Even so, August of 1963 set the path for my life. Yours, too, I suppose. That summer, I touched a Negro for the very first time. I also met my best friend and started to keep secrets.”

In celebration of the official start of Spring, In Spirit & Truth is available for a very limited time for only $2.99 . Find it today at the ebookstore of your choice.

At twenty-two Henry Townsend had the world in his hands; his cherished Lilly by his side; a bright future planned in his beloved valley home. Life promised him happiness.
America’s entrance into WWII turned that promise to dust. Desperately, Henry sought to find a way to serve his country while remaining by Lilly’s side. On the night he found his solution, Lilly disappeared.
Months later only one thing promised a shattered Henry survival… a band of brothers: skiers and outdoor enthusiasts like himself. Together they formed the 10th Mountain Division. America's Ski Troops of the U.S. Army. Together they trained for war, made their way to Italy, and fought desperately against the Germans.
The same war that shattered Henry’s dreams, now threatened to shatter Henry’s life. Could this same war, somehow save him? Could salvation be found in the arms of a war-scarred nurse in war-scarred Italy?"

T.K. Lukas (tklukas) | 10 comments Yes, the action begins along the Brazos River in Palo Pinto county, Texas. You are correct, Neil. That was a prime area in the mid-to-late 1860's for the band of Comanches that Quanah Parker led to perform some of their most dastardly acts.

Louise Titchener | 11 comments The Reconstruction era in Florida was wild and violent. One of the interesting consequences of the war had to do with Turpentine camps. Before Emancipation they were worked by slaves--after Florida often relied on prisoners incarcerated for unfair reasons. For example, there was a thing called debt peonage. I did a lot of research on Turpentine camps when I was writing my historical mystery, Trouble in Tampa.
